Girls’ Generation’s Choi Sooyoung is trading her mic for a bullet—and fans around the world are here for it. On May 31, Saram Entertainment dropped the first official stills of Sooyoung in her highly anticipated Hollywood debut film Ballerina, and the buzz has officially begun.

Set in the same shadowy universe as John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macaro (played by the ever-mesmerizing Ana de Armas), a deadly assassin in training within the ruthless Ruska Roma organization. Sooyoung steps into the role of Katla Park, a ballerina with elegance, edge, and emotional depth—who also happens to be the daughter of a Ruska Roma ally. Her character graces the stage at a dance club in a pivotal moment that, according to Sooyoung, marks a major shift in Eve’s identity as an assassin.

“Katla appears during a critical turning point in Eve’s journey,” Sooyoung revealed in a behind-the-scenes interview. “That moment captures the start of Eve realizing who she truly is.”

Though the film is packed with high-octane action, Sooyoung was drawn to the emotional core of the story. “It’s about more than fights and bullets—it explores the bond between a father and daughter,” she said. “That hit home for me because I’m very close to my family. That emotional thread gave everything more weight.”

Sooyoung also shared how she crafted a backstory for Katla to tap into her character’s vulnerability. “I imagined it was Katla’s birthday—the day her dreams were finally coming true. That made it even more heartbreaking when her world started to crumble. I wanted the audience to feel her fear, strength, and determination.”

As for working alongside Ana de Armas? Sooyoung had nothing but praise. “She welcomed me like I was truly part of the team. What struck me most was her complete dedication to the role—it’s clear in every frame she’s in.”

🎬 Ballerina is set to premiere in the U.S. on June 6 and will hit theaters in South Korea this August. With Sooyoung’s powerful presence and emotional nuance, it’s safe to say her Hollywood debut is about to leave a lasting impression.

SNSD’s Sooyoung has officially entered her action era—and we are absolutely watching. 💥🖤
