The K-drama and film world mourns today as South Korean veteran actor Lee Soon Jae has passed away at the age of 91. His agency and family confirmed the news on November 25, marking the end of an era for one of Korea’s most beloved and enduring actors.

Lee Soon Jae’s career began in 1956, and he remained active for over six decades, appearing in more than 140 TV dramas, films, and stage productions. Known for his versatility and charm, he was Korea’s oldest active actor until his passing, leaving an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

In recent years, Lee Soon Jae had scaled back his activities due to health issues. He withdrew from a play last October and missed the 37th Korea PD Awards in April. Despite these challenges, he continued to inspire audiences with his dedication and passion for his craft.

Born in 1934, Lee Soon Jae also briefly served as a lawmaker for the ruling Democratic Liberal Party in 1992, showcasing his influence beyond the screen.

His most recent work includes the 2024 K-drama Dog Knows Everything, where he starred alongside Kim Yong Gun, Ye Soo Jung, Im Chae Moo, Song Ok Sook, and Park Sung Woong, a role that earned him the grand prize at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards. He also appeared in the 2024 film About Family with Kim Yoon Seok, Lee Seung Gi, Kim Sung Ryung, Kang Han Na, Park Soo Young, and Yoon Chae Na. Lee Soon Jae’s final public appearance was for the recording of the KBS Acting Awards on December 31, 2024, a broadcast later postponed due to the Jeju Air tragedy.

Fans will fondly remember him for iconic works such as Again My Life, Pegasus Market, The Scholar Who Walks the Night, Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit, King2Hearts, Good Morning, Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP, Good Morning President, and the beloved Grandpas Over Flowers series (Seasons 1–5).
