Akiko, an editor at a publishing company, has been living with her mother all this while. One day, her mother’s sudden death and an unreasonable personnel transfer makes her decide to take over the eatery that her mother was running. She remodels the eatery to her tastes. The new store, called sandwich a, has a simple menu of breads and soups. It is a small, cosy cafe with Akiko and a helper, Shima-chan. Customers gradually start to come in. The florist Yamada also visits despite his confusion about the store change and stuffs himself with sandwiches. One day, a cat unexpectedly appears in front of Akiko as if someone had sent it.
