Moon River- Episodes 7-8
Note: Before we dive in, a quick note: because of the body swap, this recap can get a bit tricky! To keep it simple, “Yi Kang” refers to Yi Kang’s soul in Dal-i’s body, and “Dal-i” refers to Dal-i’s soul in Yi Kang’s body. Got it? Great—let’s jump in!
A storm of secrets, revenge, and glowing hearts
Episode 7 kicks off with Yi Kang fainting straight onto Dal-i, and honestly, it’s as chaotic as it sounds. She quickly brings him inside, and the healers get to work. When Yi Kang wakes, he realizes the danger hasn’t passed, the left minister is still scheming, and maybe this whole body swap thing was meant so he could endure the pain instead of her. After dropping some cryptic hints, Yi Kang retreats to his quarters, leaving Dal-i to worry and wonder what’s going on.
Meanwhile, word of Dal-i’s narrow escape reaches the dowager queen, ramping up the tension. Dal-i spends the next day trying to find Yi Kang, but he’s dodging her at every turn. On top of that, the dowager queen wants her to become the crown prince’s concubine, so Dal-i’s life is officially complicated in all directions.

Je-woon, ever the schemer, tries to stall Yi Kang’s revenge by pretending he still hasn’t found the son of the Zhen bird’s owner, hoping Woo-hee will be spared. But this plan collapses when the Qing boy unexpectedly shows up and exposes the truth. Yi Kang is furious, declaring he’s done being manipulated, while Se-dol and Shin-won take the Qing boy for interrogation. Later, Je-woon gives Yi Kang a book with the Zhen bird information in exchange for sparing Woo-hee’s life, setting the stage for more moral dilemmas and tough choices.
Elsewhere, Han-chul calls for a meeting with Mr. Heo, who is surprisingly cold at first, but makes it clear he will do everything to protect Dal-i. The tension continues to rise when the chief court lady discovers Yi Kang’s poetry in Dal-i’s quarters. She uses this to frame Dal-i for an affair with Je-woon and even starts poisoning the Zhen bird, escalating the danger for everyone.

The investigation into the Zhen bird intensifies when Yi Kang and the physician visit snake hunters to track a masked man connected to the bird’s deadly poison. They discover that the masked man has already killed two hunters, and the trail leads to a small incense pouch left behind... a clue that promises more mysteries ahead.
Back at the palace, Dal-i learns that Yi Kang was kidnapped and nearly given infertility medicine, while Yi Kang faces threats from Dal-i’s parents and Hong-nan, who don’t yet know the truth about the body swap. They eventually reveal the truth, and Hong-nan asks Yi King to promise to send Dal-i away safely once their bodies are restored.
The emotional core of the episode peaks when Yi Kang laments that he couldn’t protect anyone, and Dal-i reminds him of all the lives he’s saved, including hers. Their conversation turns personal and heartfelt, with Dal-i daring to ask if he has feelings for her, just as the chief court lady crashes in to arrest Dal-i for a fabricated affair.

The tension explodes in a dramatic climax: Dal-i tries to protect Yi Kang during his punishment, resulting in their blood mixing in the rain and glowing. In a magical twist, they both pass out and when they wake, the body swap is finally reversed. Their ordeal has literally and figuratively brought them closer together.
The episode closes with Woo-hee negotiating her father’s demands in exchange for sparing Je-woon, leaving viewers on edge as alliances, secrets, and hearts continue to intertwine.
Secrets, feathers, and a long-awaited kiss
Episode 8 picks up right after the dramatic events of the last episode, and let me tell you, it’s emotional, suspenseful, and finally gives us some much-needed heart moments!
Yi Kang starts the episode holding an unconscious Dal-i while the dowager queen has the chief court lady arrested for harming him. The poems Yi Kang wrote finally come to light, forcing the left minister to release Je-woon as well. Dal-i remains out cold, but we get a dreamy flashback to her crown princess memories, which Yi Kang gently shakes her out of. To keep her safe, he announces she’ll be his concubine, giving her the title Lady So-hoon, and settles her into her new quarters. When she asks why he kept their photos with his poems, Yi Kang dodges, keeping his feelings hidden until his revenge is complete.

Meanwhile, Yi Kang investigates the mysterious mask and incense pouch, realizing that the chief court lady had been leaving the palace every five days, the same schedule tied to the poison attacks. Tragically, they find she’s hung herself in prison, leaving a mask behind. Yi Kang then turns his attention to the Zhen bird, discovering a fledgling left in a cage in the underground cavern, apparently to mock him. He explains to Dal-i that the mother bird will always find her young, hinting that it could help with his revenge.
Conflict is never far, though. Han-chul starts suspecting Yi Kang’s true feelings for Dal-i when Yi Kang rushes to protect her from a left minister trap. Yi Kang insists he only took her as a concubine out of duty, which leaves Dal-i looking downhearted, this tension between them is just PERFECTION!
The revenge plan intensifies: Yi Kang, Se-dol, and Shin-won track the Zhen bird using Woo-hee’s tip about her father’s old liquor store, eventually discovering a hidden passage into the mountain. After some clever thinking and a metal rod, Yi Kang finds a secret door, but the masked assassin is waiting and sets off explosives! Amid the chaos, the fledgling Zhen bird gets loose and eventually reunites with its massive mother, flying straight to the palace. Dal-i, showing her bravery, grabs the fledgling to lure the mother away, but Yi Kang captures the mother bird instead. Frustration flares as the mother bird escapes from its ropes, leading Yi Kang to shoot a burning arrow and bring it down.

That night, after all the chaos and near-disasters, Dal-i apologizes for messing up the plan. Finally, Yi Kang opens up, he confesses that he has feelings for her and wants to protect her. The episode ends beautifully with their first kiss, giving fans the long-awaited emotional payoff we’ve all been waiting for.
DramaZen's Opinion

Okay, can we just talk about these two episodes? Because Moon River has officially gone from “I hope they survive this”to “I’m living for every single moment”. Between body swaps, Zhen birds, and secret crushes finally coming out, I don’t even know where to start, but let’s try!
Episode 7 had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The body swap shenanigans are still a little confusing, but honestly, it just adds to the fun and tension. Seeing Yi Kang endure all the danger meant for Dal-i while she’s stuck trying to figure him out? Heartbreaking and adorable at the same time. And that scene where their blood mixes in the rain...WOW! I mean, glowing blood? It’s magical and also totally symbolic of how connected they’ve become. The moment they wake up back in their original bodies was perfect, it finally feels like their story can move forward without the swap drama, but the emotional tension is still there in spades.
Then Episode 8 really ramps up the romance and the stakes. Yi Kang taking Dal-i as his concubine to protect her? So swoon-worthy. Plus, we finally see him start opening up about his feelings, though he’s still playing it cool with the poems and photos. And can we talk about Dal-i being brave and proactive with the fledgling Zhen bird? She’s growing into such an amazing partner-in-crime, and I loved seeing them work together. The finale kiss? Totally earned. After all the scheming, poison, and near disasters, seeing them finally connect felt like pure fan service, but in the best way.
Overall, these episodes are a mix of suspense, palace intrigue, and slow-burn romance done right. There’s danger, there’s clever plotting, and there’s finally emotional payoff with the characters’ feelings coming to light. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with the Zhen bird and Yi Kang’s revenge plot still in full swing.
If you’re watching Moon River, these episodes are exactly why this drama is addictive. They balance the tension and the heart so well, and the chemistry between Yi Kang and Dal-i just keeps getting better. I mean, who wouldn’t root for them after all that chaos?
