Past Lives, Broken Cycles, and One Hell of a Prayer

Episode 9 of Heavenly Ever After drops the emotional hammer and weaves together past lives, spiritual justice, and a whole lot of healing—plus a few surprise jobs for our favorite canine companions. This one is packed, so let’s get into it.

We kick off with Nak-jun recognizing the Hawaiian shirt guy—yes, that guy from Som-I’s disturbing dreams. Turns out, he’s a retired police officer, and in a twist of heavenly timing, he gets hit by a truck during a scuffle with Nak-jun. In spirit form, he lashes out, blaming Nak-jun for his death, but before things get out of hand, Som-I jumps in to defend Nak-jun—just as the Grim Reaper arrives and shuts it all down.

The only problem? Som-I and Nak-jun miss their ride back to Heaven. Rule broken. Status: at risk of being erased.

Back in Heaven, Nak-jun gets booted from his Earth-side duties and returns home with Som-I. Hae-suk, meanwhile, is at the church (again) cooking for the pastor (again), where she learns that a prayer is really just an answered wish—you just need to say “Amen.” Inspired, Hae-suk starts manifesting a drama-free marriage. And when Nak-jun walks through the door saying he won’t be working for a while? To her, it’s a literal divine sign.

But all is not chill in Som-I’s heart. She’s falling harder for Nak-jun and nearly confesses to Young-ae—who shuts her down immediately. “Nak-jun is off-limits,” she says, reminding Som-I how much Hae-suk means to her. Period.

Meanwhile, our two food-loving pups, Jjajang and Jjampong, are still waiting on heavenly snacks. After a nudge from the President, Jjajang gets creative—he prays for a job that would make bad people tremble. Next thing you know, a Hell agent shows up and recruits them to work in the underworld. (Jjamppong, notably less excited, is definitely not wagging his tail about it.)

Back in the emotional core of this episode, Young-ae’s abusive father, now fully reformed after his time in Hell, arrives in Heaven. But instead of a reunion, he gets panic and rejection. Young-ae flees, hiding in Hae-suk and Nak-jun’s home. When he lingers outside for a whole day, she drags him to the President, demanding punishment.

And then comes the jaw-dropper: in a past life, Young-ae and her “father” were lovers, and Hae-suk was their daughter—the child of a scandalous affair where Young-ae played the mistress. This lifetime’s pain is a karmic echo of that one.

Faced with this truth, Young-ae forgives him—not for his sake, but to break the cycle. She returns home and quietly lies beside Hae-suk, weeping. The next day, the two go on a picnic, and Hae-suk finally recognizes Young-ae as her mother, bringing this cosmic knot of heartbreak and love full circle.

Then—boom—Young-ae disappears from Heaven. We cut to Earth: she wakes from a coma after three months. Her journey wasn’t a metaphor. It was real.

In a flashback, we see the President revealing the truth about Hae-suk’s parents. With newfound understanding, Hae-suk had chosen to let go of resentment and give Young-ae a gentle goodbye.

And if your heart wasn’t already mush, the episode ends with the pastor quietly praying for the chance to release his bitterness and reunite with his mother—just as Hae-suk walks in and he calls her “Mom.” Meanwhile, Som-I wakes from a nightmare, screaming: “My son!”

Shocking Secrets, Fake Tears, and a Surprise Lottery Win

Episode 10 of Heavenly Ever After is a full-on emotional buffet—twists, flashbacks, fake sob stories, and a heavenly lottery with higher stakes than you'd expect. Buckle in—this one delivers.

We open with Nak-jun haunted by the truth: Pastor Eun-ho is his son. Yup, that’s not just a holy man in a tracksuit—it’s his kid. Meanwhile, Som-I is in full emotional spiral mode. She’s been having increasingly vivid visions of a child named Eun-ho, and it hits her—he’s her son. Or so she thinks.

But when Som-I overhears Hae-suk telling someone that she and Nak-jun never had kids—something Hae-suk had told Eun-ho directly before—it throws her for a loop. Then another memory surfaces. This time, she sees Nak-jun taking Eun-ho away from her, followed by a flash of Nak-jun accepting money from the Hawaiian-shirt-wearing police officer. Oh, and throw in some jarring flashes of headlines about children sold for overseas adoption. The mood? DARK.

Furious and confused, Som-I confronts Nak-jun, accusing him of selling her child. When he tries to make sense of what she’s saying, she has one final terrifying flash—Nak-jun dunking her underwater. In a panic, she clocks him in the head and bolts.

But don’t worry—somehow we still pivot to comedy, because Hae-suk is busy manifesting her way into a Heavenly Lottery contest. The prize? A chance to send a winning lottery ticket to someone on Earth. To enter, she needs a golden key—one that can only be summoned through sincere prayer. Naturally, she tries to bribe the President for clues (classic Hae-suk), but it’s the pastor who saves the day by praying for her. Cue: key falling from the sky.

The lottery contest kicks off, and it’s a full-blown tragedy Olympics. Contestants take the stage one by one, each sharing a heart-wrenching tale to win audience votes. One woman, reunited with her husband who escaped Hell just to see her, delivers a tearjerker and scores 99 points.

Then it’s Hae-suk’s turn. Her own story? Not tragic enough. Sympathy score: weak. So, she pulls an ace from her sleeve—claiming she’s the mother of the pastor, who was abandoned as a child. Fake tears, dramatic pause, and boom—score shoots up. Except… surprise twist incoming.

Som-I, still sorting through the chaos in her mind, finally pieces things together. She and Nak-jun weren’t just connected—they were lovers in a past life. And that child she keeps seeing? Eun-ho isn’t hers. Nak-jun breaks the news: Eun-ho is Hae-suk’s son.

And suddenly, Hae-suk’s lie during the lottery contest isn’t a lie at all.

The episode wraps with Hae-suk and the pastor walking hand-in-hand, celebrating their unexpected lottery win and newfound bond. The fake mother-and-son duo? Turns out they might’ve just been telling the truth without even knowing it.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Heavenly Ever After

Episodes 9 and 10 of Heavenly Ever After hit hard. If you thought this show couldn’t pack any more twists, think again—these two episodes delivered back-to-back emotional gut punches and left me reeling (and also laughing?? somehow??).

Episode 9 absolutely broke me. Young-ae being revealed as Hae-suk’s mother in a past life? I did not see that coming. The flashbacks, the picnic, the silent tears—just chef’s kiss storytelling. And then she wakes up from her coma?! Talk about emotional whiplash. Also, Hae-suk being called “Mom” by the pastor just as Som-I screams “My son”? Yeah. I’m not okay.

Then Episode 10 comes in like a chaotic fever dream and I loved it. Som-I unraveling, believing Eun-ho is her son, confronting Nak-jun, thinking he sold her kid—it was messy, emotional, and totally riveting. And that twist?? Eun-ho is actually Hae-suk’s son?! My jaw dropped.

And don’t even get me started on the Heaven lottery subplot. Hae-suk lying her way into the top score with a fake sob story… only to find out it wasn’t fake after all?? Iconic behavior. Truly no one finesses the afterlife like Hae-suk.

Heavenly Ever After just keeps getting better—funny, tragic, unpredictable, and so full of heart. I don’t know what’s coming next, but I know I’m not ready. 💫💔🎟️
