Heated Encounter (Book 1)- By: Tina Marie
Chapter 15 - A Confession of Hearts
After dinner, the evening felt far from over. The air was warm, with a light breeze that carried the scent of blooming flowers from the nearby park. Eric and Emily strolled quietly along the path, the glow of streetlights casting soft shadows as they walked. Eric, nervous but feeling the connection between them grow stronger, shyly reached out and took Emily’s hand in his.
A surge of warmth shot through both of them as their hands connected. They glanced at each other, their cheeks flushing with the sudden intimacy. Then, as if embarrassed by the moment, they quickly turned their attention back to the path ahead, but the feeling lingered—something electric, something real.
Emily blushed deeply, her heart racing. “Umm... I had a really nice time at dinner,” she murmured, breaking the silence.
Eric glanced at her, smiling softly. “Me too. I can’t wait to do it again soon.”
There was a pause, and Emily’s heart thudded in her chest as she gathered the courage to say what had been on her mind all night. “Eric?”
“Yes?” he responded, his voice gentle and curious.
Emily took a deep breath, her voice lowering to a near whisper. “I’ve thought it over, and if you’re still interested... I’d like to be your girlfriend.”
Eric’s eyes widened in surprise. “What did you just say? I couldn’t hear you clearly.”
Emily’s cheeks flamed, and she spoke a little louder, though her shyness remained. “I said... I’d like to be your girlfriend.”
For a moment, Eric stood frozen, the words taking a second to sink in. Then, without thinking, he let go of her hand, stopped walking, and pulled her into a tight hug, holding her against his chest. His heart raced as he wrapped his arms around her, feeling her body melt into his embrace.
Emily smiled, sinking into the warmth of his embrace. She’d been looking forward to this moment all day, but it was even better than she’d imagined. It felt... right.
“Thank you for agreeing to be my girlfriend,” Eric whispered against her hair, his voice thick with emotion. “I’m so happy right now.”
“Me too,” Emily whispered back, her smile widening.
There was a brief pause before Eric spoke again, his tone shifting. “Emily, I have a confession to make.”
Her stomach fluttered nervously. “What is it?”
Eric hesitated, looking down at her. “When I first saw you... I was completely captivated. I couldn’t stop thinking about you. At first, it was just attraction, but now... I think I—”
Emily gazed up at him, her heart pounding. “You think you... what?”
Eric blurted it out before he could stop himself. “I think I love you.”
Emily’s eyes widened in shock. She stood there for a moment, taken by surprise. Love? She knew Eric liked her, maybe even a lot, but love? It wasn’t what she had expected to hear so soon.
Eric, seeing her reaction, immediately felt a wave of panic. “I’m sorry,” he stammered, running a hand through his hair nervously. “I shouldn’t have said that. I must sound like an idiot. It’s too soon, isn’t it? I didn’t mean to freak you out—”
Before he could finish, Emily interrupted him. “Eric, wait.”
He stopped, his heart pounding, bracing for the worst.
Emily’s eyes softened as she smiled, a warmth spreading through her chest. “I think I love you too.”
Eric blinked, momentarily stunned. “What? I thought you were upset because I said it too early.”
“No,” Emily said with a shy smile, her voice barely above a whisper. “I was just surprised that you felt the same way I do.”
Eric’s heart soared, and a slow, hopeful smile spread across his face. “Can I kiss you right now? Because I really, really want to kiss you.”
Emily’s blush deepened, and she nodded, her voice barely audible. “Okay.”
With that, Eric pulled her close again, his hand sliding gently through the side of her hair. Emily’s heart raced, her breath catching as his face drew closer. When his lips finally met hers, it was soft, tentative at first, but then the sparks between them ignited, and the kiss deepened. Eric held her tighter, his hands wrapping around her waist as they lost themselves in the moment.
When the kiss finally broke, both of them were breathless. Emily’s legs felt weak, and she instinctively grabbed onto Eric’s jacket for support, her head spinning with the intensity of it all.
Eric grinned, his voice playful and low. “That was... nice.”
Still too stunned to speak, Emily just nodded, her mind reeling. She’d never experienced anything like that before—like every nerve in her body had come alive. He gently took her hand again, their fingers intertwining naturally.
“Let’s head back to the car,” Eric said softly. “It’s getting late.”
Emily nodded, still dazed, and they walked back to the car hand in hand. The ride back to her apartment was quiet, but the tension between them was palpable. The kiss had left both of them feeling something neither of them wanted to end.
When they finally pulled up in front of Emily’s place, her nerves tingled with a new boldness she hadn’t felt before. She glanced at him, her heart beating fast.
“Would you like to come in for some late-night snacks and a drink?” she asked, her voice soft but confident.
Eric raised an eyebrow, surprised. “Are you sure?”
Emily nodded, a small smile on her lips. “Yes. My friend Rachel isn’t home tonight, and... I’m not tired yet.”
Eric hesitated for a moment, weighing whether it was a good idea to prolong the night, but the pull between them was too strong to resist. “Okay,” he said with a grin. “I don’t think it would hurt to come in for a little bit.”
With that, they both got out of the car, the night stretching ahead of them, full of possibilities neither of them had quite anticipated.
As they walked toward Emily’s apartment, the air between them buzzed with a magnetic pull. The kiss they had shared earlier lingered in Emily’s thoughts, stirring emotions she hadn’t expected. Every time she looked at Eric, the memory of his lips made her pulse quicken. She wanted more—needed more.
Eric, walking just behind her, couldn’t help but admire her, captivated by the way her hair moved softly with each step. His mind was filled with the feeling of her lips, the way she had responded to his touch. Every glance at her made his desire intensify. He had wanted her since the moment they first met, and now, after that kiss, he could hardly wait to be closer to her again.
By the time they reached Emily’s door, the tension had reached its peak. Neither of them could deny the connection, the unspoken electricity between them.
Emily unlocked the door, stepping inside. She barely had a moment to turn around before Eric followed her, closing the door behind him. His voice, low and full of longing, filled the quiet space. “I’m not really hungry for snacks,” he said with a sly smile. “But there’s something else I’ve been craving.”
Before she could respond, Eric took a step closer, gently placing his hands on her shoulders and guiding her back against the wall. His gaze was intense, full of emotion, and with a slow, deliberate movement, he leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss.
Emily responded immediately, her arms wrapping around his neck, pulling him closer. The kiss was full of warmth, soft but charged with a growing intensity that made her heart race. How could one kiss feel so right? she wondered, her thoughts swirling as she got lost in the moment.
Eric lifted her effortlessly, his hands steady on her waist. “Wrap your legs around me,” he whispered, his voice soft and full of affection.
“Okay,” Emily replied, her heart beating fast as she did as he asked.
With her legs wrapped around him, Eric held her securely, pressing her gently against the wall. Their kiss deepened, but it remained tender, each moment filled with the unspoken promise of something more. Every touch, every movement felt like a step toward something they had both been waiting for.
Eric paused, pulling back just enough to look into her eyes. “Emily,” he said softly, “I’ve been thinking about you constantly. Since the moment we met, I haven’t been able to get you out of my mind.”
Emily’s heart fluttered at his words. “I think about you all the time too,” she admitted, her voice soft but sure.
Eric smiled, his gaze filled with admiration. “Tell me what you think about,” he teased, brushing his lips lightly against hers.
Emily blushed, her hands resting against his chest. “This... and how much I like being with you.”
His smile grew wider as he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. “You’re playing with fire,” he teased lightly.
She laughed, the sound full of warmth. “Maybe I am,” she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Eric carried her over to the couch, setting her down gently beside him. The atmosphere between them shifted into something softer, more playful. He brushed a strand of hair from her face, his touch lingering for just a moment. “You’re really something, you know that?”
Emily smiled, feeling her heart swell. “I could say the same about you.”
They shared a look that held more meaning than words could convey. It was a moment of connection, of unspoken understanding that left both of them feeling closer than ever. Neither wanted to rush what they were building, but the anticipation for whatever came next was undeniable.
As the night grew later, they sat together, talking, laughing, and enjoying the simplicity of being in each other’s company. It wasn’t just about the kisses or the tension—it was about the growing bond between them, something real and full of promise.
