Rom-com fans, get ready to fall in love all over again — with a twist! The hit Korean legal romance Suspicious Partner is getting a Japanese makeover, and the buzz is already heating up across Asia.

Starting April 29, the Japanese remake — titled あやしいパートナー (Suspicious Partner) — will premiere on major Japanese networks MBS and TBS, with global audiences able to catch it on Disney+. That’s right — whether you’re in Tokyo, Seoul, or anywhere in between, this reimagined version will be just a click away.

The original 2017 K-drama starred Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun as a pair of prosecutors caught up in thrilling criminal cases, workplace tension, and heart-fluttering romantic moments. With a cast that also included Choi Tae Joon, Kwon Na Ra, and Kim Ye Won, the drama became a breakout hit — earning awards and a loyal international fanbase.

Now, Japan is putting its own spin on the fan-favorite. Stepping into the lead roles are Yagi Yusei, a member of J-pop group FANTASTICS, and Saito Kyoko, beloved former idol of Hiragana Keyakizaka46. Behind the scenes, the series is helmed by director Yasukawa Yuka and screenwriter Masaike Yosuke, with production by C&I Entertainment.

With a perfect mix of romance, comedy, and courtroom intrigue, fans are curious (and excited!) to see how Japan will reinterpret this K-drama classic — and how the chemistry between the leads will stack up against the original.

Will this remake win over K-drama loyalists and J-drama devotees alike? Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: Suspicious Partner is back — and it’s more international than ever.
