BBQ Secrets, Ghost Pranks, and Growing Sparks

Episode 5 of The Potato Lab brings us late-night storms, eyebrow-raising BBQs, ghostly paranoia, and more love triangle chaos than ever before. It's got everything—romance, mystery, mischief, and a whole lot of potatoes.

We pick up right where we left off—Baek-ho racing through the storm to help Mi-kyung save the greenhouse. Drenched and exhausted, the two head inside to clean up. Mi-kyung jokingly suggests a shower together (flirty, much?) but they end up sharing a late-night meal instead. While eating, Baek-ho gets a deeper look at Mi-kyung’s genuine passion for potatoes, and it hits him—this woman really loves her job. So much so that he starts second-guessing his decision to fire her.

The next morning at the guesthouse, Yoon Hee-jin suddenly shows up, leaving Hwan-kyung and Ong-ju baffled. The two speculate about her connection to Baek-ho and settle on the obvious drama-fuel: she must be his girlfriend. Naturally, Ong-ju spills the tea to Mi-kyung, who pretends not to care but is clearly dying to know.

Cue the spy mission! Mi-kyung and Ong-ju peek from the window, only for Hee-jin to catch them immediately. Instead of being offended, she goes full-on fabulous and invites everyone to her welcome BBQ. At the party, Hee-jin charms the crowd, especially Hwan-kyung, while Mi-kyung tries to dig into her history with Baek-ho.

Mi-kyung is 100% convinced they’re high school sweethearts and gives Baek-ho the ice treatment—until Hee-jin drops the bomb that Baek-ho actually has feelings for someone else. Cue the sparks!

Meanwhile, Ki-se is still creeping in the shadows—literally. He’s been tailing Hee-jin and finds out she’s at the guesthouse. But the next day at work, he shifts gears and makes a grand announcement: he’s leading the new PMI Task Force. That’s bad news for Mi-kyung, especially since Ki-se makes it clear he can override Baek-ho’s decisions and throws in a backhanded “you haven’t progressed much” comment.

Mi-kyung’s about to chuck a shoe at him when Baek-ho walks in. The tension is thick, and even thicker when Mi-kyung blurts out during lunch, “My lips belong to you.” Baek-ho is mortified, the staff is stunned, and honestly, we’re loving the chaos.

Back at the guesthouse, Baek-ho starts hearing strange noises at night, thanks to Mi-kyung and her brother’s brilliant prank. They record spooky moans and let Baek-ho spiral into believing he’s being haunted. The paranoia intensifies when he notices red stains and squeaky chairs in his office.

Turns out? The Potato Gang has been sneaking into his office weekly. One of the assistants spilled nail polish and broke his chair during their secret hangouts—but they decide to let him suffer in blissful ignorance.

The prank goes way too far when Baek-ho actually visits a shaman to cleanse himself. Mortified, Mi-kyung finally comes clean—it’s not a ghost, just a White Thrush bird making noise. Baek-ho? Not amused. No apology or peace offering can fix this, and Ong-ju nails it: “You two are basically doormats for each other.”

Just as the romance starts simmering, CEO Yoon confronts Ki-se about canceling Hee-jin’s credit card. Things are icy, but during their spat, Yoon slips up and reveals that Baek-ho is in Pyeongwon. That’s where Hee-jin is. And who else is there? Mi-kyung.

When Ki-se shows up, he’s stunned to find Mi-kyung front and center, setting the stage for even more explosive drama in the episodes to come.

Love Confessions, Potato Politics & Office Ghosts (Again)

Episode 6 of The Potato Lab turns up the tension, the tenderness, and the total nonsense—in the best possible way. We’ve got midnight confessions, jealous exes, secret sleepovers, and a whole new potato drama brewing. Let’s get into it.

We kick off with Ki-se popping up at Mi-kyung’s door, because apparently he has no concept of boundaries. Mi-kyung shuts it down real quick—she takes him out to a remote spot to chat, where he almost admits he’s there for Hee-jin, but then pivots and mentions Baek-ho instead. Sketchy.

When Mi-kyung casually drops Baek-ho’s name, Ki-se picks up on it fast and starts prying into their relationship. She doesn’t owe him a thing—but for good measure, she warns him that Ong-ju’s recently bought a cleaver. Iconic.

Turns out, Mi-kyung was up late texting with Baek-ho, who finally accepted her apology from the prank-gone-too-far. He even tells her to sleep well (swoon), and Mi-kyung melts.

The next morning, it’s business time—Baek-ho lays out Wonhan’s 2024 Potato Plan, including a controversial switch from local Jangsaeng potatoes to imported Marshalls. The lab team is not happy—they’re worried the taste will suffer. Baek-ho, ever the strategist, sets up a blind taste test… only to reveal that both samples were Marshalls. Classic Baek-ho move.

But Mi-kyung’s not ready to give up. She pitches an alternative—Maroo, a new variety the lab’s been developing. It's promising, and Baek-ho listens. They even visit the potato field together, and Mi-kyung hints she hopes she can stick around longer. The vibes are real.

Ong-ju, meanwhile, has her own problems—she’s jealous that Hwan-kyung might be into someone else. After some bickering, she finally asks him to kiss her, and things escalate quickly. Let’s just say the mountain air isn’t the only thing heating up.

The next morning? Baek-ho and Mi-kyung accidentally fall asleep in the car—holding hands. The whole Potato Lab team sees them and naturally assumes they're married. And honestly? They’re not wrong.

While Mi-kyung glows from her sleepover with Baek-ho, things get complicated fast. Ki-se shows up to offer Baek-ho a new place to stay—under the guise of being helpful, but really? He’s jealous.

That night, Baek-ho ignores Mi-kyung’s calls, sending her into a spiral. Hee-jin steps in to stir the pot, demanding he fess up to who he likes. After some resistance (and threats involving shoes), he admits it’s someone from work. (Duh.)

Meanwhile, Mi-kyung is reminded of her past trauma—being ignored, iced out, and ghosted at her old job, thanks to Ki-se. Seeing Baek-ho acting cold brings all of that back.

Ki-se pulls Mi-kyung into his office to tell her that her resignation paperwork is sitting on his desk—but he’s not signing it. Yet. Power play much?

Back at the guesthouse, Mi-kyung finally confronts Baek-ho. She’s tired of the mixed signals and demands to know what she means to him. Baek-ho? He stares into her soul and says, “You’re a line I want to cross.” Then he closes the door behind them. END SCENE.

Back in the world of Ong-ju and Hwan-kyung, things are getting cuter by the day. They’re watching movies, sneaking glances, and trying not to jump each other again. Good luck with that.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of The Potato Lab (2025)

Confessions, Chaos, and Car-Nap Cuteness

Episodes 5 and 6 of The Potato Lab had everything—flirty tension, surprise sleepovers, ghost pranks gone wrong, and confessions that had me absolutely screaming.

Baek-ho and Mi-kyung’s chemistry is officially boiling. That late-night greenhouse rescue? Adorable. The accidental hand-holding in the car? Dead. And Baek-ho calling Mi-kyung “a line he wants to cross”? Goodbye, I am deceased.

Also, shoutout to Ong-ju and Hwan-kyung for going from comic relief to full-on steamy side couple. Their kiss? Unexpected. Their movie night tension? Off the charts.

Between the corporate potato wars, jealous exes creeping around, and Baek-ho’s ghost meltdown, these two episodes were chaotic in the best way. The drama’s heating up, the romance is blooming, and I am 100% obsessed. Bring on Episode 7! 🥔
