Resident Playbook- Episodes 9-10
PR Disasters, Idol Revelations, and That Elevator Kiss
Episode 9 of Resident Playbook kicks off with the residents shuffling back into hospital life—exhausted, overworked, and still somehow managing to look good under fluorescent lighting. Nam-kyung misses the elevator and ends up in an awkward-but-honest conversation with Professor Seo and intern Tak Gi-on. Turns out, despite Seo’s hopes, Gi-on has zero plans to join OB-GYN. Ouch.
Meanwhile, I-yeong is playing hospital tour guide for a PD and his crew, who are filming a new reality show on hospital life. Things take a turn when Dr. Myung swoops in with a pregnant patient in crisis. The cameras catch it all, and Dr. Myung, ever the showboater, promises a natural birth on camera—despite I-yeong’s cautious warning that things might not go as planned.
Over in the land of well-intentioned blunders, Jae-il causes a second-year to get chewed out by a professor. But instead of throwing Jae-il under the bus, the professor treats him with kindness—a move that sticks with him and quietly shifts his mindset.
After a casual dinner with friends, I-yeong heads home to some unexpectedly good news: her sister Ju-yeong’s latest procedure was successful. It's not a sure thing yet, but there's hope. Inspired, I-yeong opens a savings account the next morning to start prepping for the baby’s arrival—and bumps into Do-won at the bank. She jokingly calls him out on his broken dinner promises, and he finally invites her out. Progress!
Elsewhere, Jae-il finds himself mentoring a new intern who keeps fumbling. Instead of pulling a Sa-bi-style meltdown, he chooses patience. That backfires spectacularly when he finds out the intern’s been badmouthing him and lying about doing his work. Oof. Hurt but composed, Jae-il vents to Do-won, who offers simple wisdom: scold the mistakes, praise the effort.
Meanwhile, Sa-bi is beefing with her senior resident. She claims her senior won’t answer questions and ends up going rogue on a diagnosis. When things go sideways, she bypasses the chain of command and calls the professor directly. The next day, both get a firm lecture for stepping on toes. But in a genuinely sweet moment, the senior admits she didn’t know the answer either. Sa-bi apologizes, and they end up patching things up.
Back in showbiz-land, Dr. Myung is turning I-yeong into her on-camera assistant, making her check on the pregnant patient constantly. When labor stalls after three hours, I-yeong pleads for a C-section. Dr. Myung refuses—image comes first. When they finally go to surgery, she blames I-yeong for the delay. The baby is born healthy, but Dr. Myung keeps playing the camera like she’s auditioning for Best Doctor in a Drama, and I-yeong is done.
On the romance front, Do-won’s plans are classic Do-won: sweet but tragically flawed. His flower delivery guy gets into an accident, and he booked their dinner for the wrong date. He texts I-yeong to cancel, unknowingly setting her off after a truly awful day.
She seriously considers quitting—until Nam-kyung reminds her of the December bonus. Nothing like cold hard cash to restore professional dedication.
To blow off steam, the residents hit karaoke. Jae-il performs (idol roots never die), and a tipsy Sa-bi joins in, revealing she was a fan of his group—but of a different member. His face? Crushed. Comedy gold.
The episode ends with the emotional payoff we’ve been waiting for: Do-won shows up at I-yeong’s door to explain the whole mix-up. After a hilariously awkward confession, they walk home together—hand in hand. And yes, they kiss in the elevator. (Finally!) Do-won is ready for the next step… until he remembers their siblings are out, panics, and bails back to the hospital.
The next morning, the residents catch the trailer for the hospital reality show. Who’s front and center? Dr. Myung, soaking up the spotlight like a pro. I-yeong’s eye-roll could power the entire OB-GYN floor.
Superglue, Secret Romance, and Surgical Showdowns
Episode 10 of Resident Playbook starts with a jolt—literally. I-yeong dreams she’s desperately trying to revive a patient with post-partum hemorrhage (PPH), only to wake up in a cold sweat. The emotional gut punch sets the tone for an episode packed with medical pressure, rivalries, and a secret romance that’s getting harder to hide.
The next day, Professor Seo takes the residents through an intense crash course on PPH—a clear reaction to the recent real-life emergency. She’s determined they won’t miss the signs next time. But before you think it’s all academic, the drama shifts to a turf war between Professor Seo and Professor Kong, who both want the same operating room and aren’t above sending their residents—I-yeong and Nam-kyung—into the battlefield to do their bidding.
Cue the friction. I-yeong and Nam-kyung, already under pressure, clash hard. Hospital politics, meet intern meltdown.
Meanwhile, Sa-bi ruffles feathers by choosing to attend a different surgery than the one Professor Cho expected her at. His reaction? Not great. Elsewhere, we find out that I-yeong and Do-won are officially dating! But I-yeong wants to keep it under wraps—which is easier said than done when you work and live in the same hospital.
At home, the emotional weight gets heavier: Ju-yeong is anxiously awaiting results to confirm whether her IVF was successful. The blood test results are… unclear. Everyone’s holding their breath.
Back at the hospital, I-yeong and Do-won’s attempts to date in secret are hilariously thwarted at every turn—someone always barges in, and their alone time keeps getting interrupted. Adding to the chaos, I-yeong and Nam-kyung butt heads again, thanks to their professors’ continued power plays.
And Sa-bi? She gets wrongly blamed for feeding a patient who was supposed to be fasting. Professor Cho tears into her, throwing personal jabs on top of professional ones. The truth comes out: it wasn’t even her mistake. Professor Ryu, ever the quiet MVP, sees the whole thing unfold and wordlessly hands her a coffee in a small but deeply meaningful moment of kindness.
Then comes the heartbreak. Ju-yeong’s next test confirms the IVF didn’t take. I-yeong joins her as the news breaks, offering quiet comfort in the face of yet another loss.
Suddenly, we get a throwback treat—Hospital Playlist royalty Ik-jun arrives at the ER... because he glued his palms together with superglue. Peak Ik-jun energy. He’s revealed to be an old friend of Professor Seo’s, and right on cue, Song-hwa appears, having been in the lab with Seo. Fans, rejoice!
Back on the OB-GYN floor, Professor Cho tries to tear into Sa-bi again, but this time Professor Ryu stands up for her. Cho finally backs down with a rare apology. Win for Sa-bi. Win for everyone, honestly.
Then, it happens—a real PPH case. I-yeong and Nam-kyung rush to stabilize the patient, panic flickering across their faces. But they pull themselves together. Ik-jun steps in, clears the surgical path, and both Professor Seo and Kong show up just in time to help. Together, they save the patient. The tension melts, replaced by genuine teamwork. Even Seo and Kong call a truce—for now.
As the hospital calms down, Ik-jun shows Song-hwa the hospital’s unofficial dating spot: the eerily quiet outpatient ward at night. And as they exit, guess who’s using that exact location? Jae-il, keeping a promise to take Sa-bi to a private dinner spot.
But the real kicker? Jae-il forgets something and goes back—only to catch I-yeong and Do-won hand-in-hand coming out of a nearby room. Busted.
DramaZen's Opinion
Episodes 9 and 10 of Resident Playbook deliver everything we love about this drama—chaotic hospital politics, emotional gut punches, and that slow-burn romance finally heating up.
Episode 9 gives us secret hand-holding, misfired flower deliveries, and the ever-dramatic Dr. Myung stealing camera time like she’s auditioning for a medical reality show. I-yeong and Do-won’s low-key dating attempts are both hilarious and adorable, especially with Jae-il stumbling into their relationship reveal at the perfect rom-com moment. And Sa-bi casually dropping that she was a fan of Jae-il’s idol group—but of another member? Iconic.
Then comes Episode 10, which turns up the heat with a full-blown OR turf war between Professors Seo and Kong (petty queens, both), and an actual medical emergency that brings the residents—and the rival professors—together in one of the most satisfying team-up moments of the season. Add in the surprise cameos from Ik-jun and Song-hwa (cue the Hospital Playlist feels), and you’ve got fan-service done right.
These episodes perfectly blend hospital chaos with emotional honesty and playful romance. Whether it’s I-yeong comforting her sister, Sa-bi standing tall under pressure, or Do-won finally confessing his feelings in an elevator (!!!), the show continues to charm with its heart, humor, and high-stakes humanity.
