Sabae to Yattara Owaru- Drama Review
I wasn't interested enough to recap all the episodes, but I was kind enough to at least give you a review below 👇🏻
DramaZen's Opinion
This drama started off as a light-hearted and laugh-out-loud ride, filled with cute moments and quirky humor. But as the story unfolded, it left me frustrated, especially with an ending that felt like a huge letdown.
The story centers on Uji, a lovable but clueless guy who’s completely fixated on Sakurai, his friend Sabae’s popular and seemingly unattainable best friend. He spends far too much time daydreaming about what it would be like if he could just talk to her normally, not realizing that the one person who truly gets him—Sabae—has been right there all along. Uji constantly seeks Sabae's help to win over Sakurai’s heart, unaware that the playful teasing and risqué jokes Sabae throws his way are slowly making him see her in a new light.
It’s hard not to suspect that, despite Sabae claiming Uji isn’t her type, she knows exactly what she’s doing—nudging him to notice her while keeping up the charade of "just helping." Their banter and chemistry build throughout the drama, leaving viewers hoping they’ll realize their feelings for each other.
Along the way, Uji is supported by a cast of amusing and endearing side characters. Kira, the popular and wise friend, offers advice on being true to yourself to win over girls. Tamara, the naughty senior, adds a playful layer of humor with his inappropriate jokes, while Kachiki, the by-the-book student, mistakenly thinks Uji likes her after a tipsy misunderstanding, adding another layer of chaos to the mix.
As Uji tries to navigate his love life, he begins to see himself differently. Where he once viewed himself as an overthinking oddball, Sabae points out that his quirks are actually part of his charm. With every interaction, you find yourself rooting for Uji and Sabae to finally recognize what’s right in front of them.
However, just when you think it’s building up to that big romantic breakthrough, the drama leaves you hanging. The final scene shows Uji and Sabae walking off together after a night of drinks with friends, with no real resolution. Does Uji finally realize that Sabae is the one for him, or does his newfound confidence lead him back to Sakurai? The writers leave it all up in the air, making for one of the most frustrating endings I’ve seen in a long time!
