Sobriety Pacts, Kisses, and Shocking Confessions

Second Shot at Love Episode 5 is a cocktail of emotional growth, romantic tension, and pure chaos—and for once, no actual cocktails are involved. At least, not at first.

We kick off with a sobering wake-up call: Geum-ju decides it’s finally time to quit drinking, and shockingly, her dad and sister join in. After a full medical check-up, Ui-joon reveals the damage—another few years of drinking and they could have been facing liver cancer. That’s enough to scare even this wild bunch straight... for now.

Step one? Purge the house of booze. Cue: the most absurd scavenger hunt ever. Gwang-ok finds alcohol stashed in toilet tanks, makeup bottles, and even the dog’s kennel. The Hans start out energized and full of hope—until the withdrawal kicks in. Within days, they’re missing their happy hour.

Meanwhile, Ui-joon stumbles across the necklace he never got to give Geum-ju. Moved, he doubles down on helping her stay sober. He takes her running, shares his own story of quiet endurance, and makes her a deal: stay clean for a week, and he’ll do anything she asks.

That weekend, he takes Geum-ju, Seon-wook, and Young-woong on a hike. Seon-wook probes the state of Ui-joon and Geum-ju’s relationship, and she admits it was Ui-joon who ghosted her. Spicy.

Back at the Han B&B, Hyeon-ju gets a surprise visit from her glamorous former colleague, Jeong-yeon—who secretly trashes her as a washed-up divorcee with a scandalous past. Hyeon-ju hears every word, and her self-esteem tanks.

Back on the hike, Ui-joon is practically glued to Geum-ju—cheering her on, fussing over her jacket, even taking her backpack. Flashbacks show how he used to comfort her in her lowest moments. It’s soft, it’s sweet, it’s definitely not just friendly.

Elsewhere, Seon-hwa and Hyeon-ju go shopping. Turns out, it’s Seon-hwa and Young-woong’s anniversary, and they’re heading to the Jang Beom-june concert. Hyeon-ju pretends not to care, but she clearly feels left out.

Meanwhile, Jeong-su nearly caves to a drinking buddy until Gwang-ok tattles to Ms. Nosy, leading to another small-town chase scene featuring a broom and a whole lot of yelling.

Back at the hiking crew, things go south fast. They forget Young-woong on the trail. He ends up getting hit by a bus. Yes, a bus. Luckily, he survives, but tensions flare. Seon-hwa gives their concert tickets to Seon-wook and suggests he take Hyeon-ju. Young-woong is not thrilled and warns Seon-wook again: “Don’t mess with our friend’s sister.”

Ms. Nosy continues her reign of town gossip by dragging Geum-ju’s name. Gwang-ok, however, swoops in to shut it down—Geum-ju is getting her act together, with Ui-joon’s help, thank you very much.

Back in Seoul, Geum-ju gets a surprise message from her sleazy ex-boss, Chief Kim. He hints at a job offer—if she comes to the team dinner. Ui-joon, ignoring his nurse’s offer of a blind date, insists on driving her there. King behavior.

Meanwhile, at the concert, Hyeon-ju runs into Jeong-yeon and, in a panic, pretends Seon-wook is her boyfriend. Later, mortified and drunk, she vents about being “shabby.” Seon-wook lifts her spirits... and then she kisses him. Yep. It finally happens.

At dinner, Geum-ju holds her own like a champ. But after everyone leaves, Chief Kim gets handsy, assumes she’s pregnant (??), and tries to touch her stomach. She fights him off, and just in time, Ui-joon arrives to shut him down.

Afterward, he takes her to their old scenic spot in Seoul. She can tell he’s had a rough day too, so she lightens the mood—and then realizes it’s been a full week. Time for her reward. Her question? Why did he cut ties with her?

His answer? “Because I liked you too much.”

Boom.

Epilogue: A mysterious man breaks into Ui-joon’s house. He finds the necklace... and a note confessing Ui-joon’s love for Geum-ju.

Ghosts from the Past, Close Calls, and Almost Confessions

Episode 6 of Second Shot at Love hits like an emotional sucker punch—wrapped in awkward crush energy, shady relatives, and withdrawal-fueled daydreams. It's messy, sweet, and full of those "almost" moments that make you want to yell at the screen.

We open with a flashback to the original breakup—Ui-joon kisses Geum-ju, she says she doesn’t like him (liar!), and he ghosts her. She tracks him down at the airport, only for him to brush her off coldly. His excuse? “I don’t owe you an explanation.” Brutal.

In the present, the truth finally surfaces: Ui-joon left because he heard Geum-ju pitied him. They clear the air, apologize, and he claims—emphasis on claims—that he’s over her.

Then comes flashback #2, and it changes everything. Turns out, he was going to chase her. But a mysterious, violent man showed up claiming to be his father, demanding money and threatening Geum-ju. Ui-joon was scared for her, so he pushed her away to protect her. When she found him at the airport, he was physically hurt—and emotionally wrecked. That’s why he told her she’d “crossed a line.” Oof.

Meanwhile, back in present day, Geum-ju starts daydreaming about drunkenly confessing her feelings. Every time she sees Ui-joon, she blushes like a schoolgirl. Even Jeong-su and Hyeon-ju are acting weird—craving beer and crying at random commercials. Classic withdrawal symptoms.

In town, there’s a wedding, and the village aunties are once again dragging Geum-ju’s name through the mud. Gwang-ok defends her, but she’s rattled when she finds out Chief Kim (aka the groper) is trying to sue Geum-ju.

Good luck with that—because Ui-joon’s dashcam caught everything. Geum-ju proves it was self-defense and realizes he waited two hours in the car just to make sure she was okay. MVP behavior.

On the romance front, Seon-wook confesses to Hyeon-ju that he remembers the kiss and he's serious. She tries to brush it off but is clearly conflicted.

Then, plot twist—Gwang-ok disappears on a solo vacation. The Hans fall apart without her. But it turns out Ui-joon encouraged her to go. He tells Geum-ju that her mom acts strong, but she’s been through hell too. Guilt hits Geum-ju hard. She sends Gwang-ok some spending money, and for once, her mom actually feels appreciated.

In the clinic, Nurse Baek scolds Geum-ju for hanging around Ui-joon too much, but Geum-ju learns from another nurse that Baek basically raised Ui-joon in the hospital and is super protective—like a mom in scrubs.

Later, Ui-joon and Geum-ju overhear villagers gossiping about how Gwang-ok wasn’t invited to a wedding because Geum-ju is “bad luck.” Ui-joon steps in and shuts it down, earning more swoon points.

Elsewhere, Hyeon-ju crosses paths with Seon-hwa’s mother-in-law, who insults everyone in one breath—Seon-hwa, Seon-wook, and especially Hyeon-ju. Seon-hwa is pissed and swears she’ll find Seon-wook a young, employed wife. Hyeon-ju, who is neither, immediately pulls away from Seon-wook, skips taekwondo class, and ghosts him. Ouch.

Back to our main couple: while scouting a mobile clinic, a truck nearly crashes into them. Ui-joon jerks the wheel and hurts his shoulder. Geum-ju tends to him, they get real close, and suddenly she’s wondering if a racing heart is a withdrawal symptom or just... Ui-joon.

Later that night, he’s rattled. He suspects his father was driving the truck, and the cops can’t track it. The guy is dangerous, and now we know he’s lurking again.

To take her mind off everything, Geum-ju dives into car repairs and finds a parking ticket from Ju-yeop’s wedding day. Curious, she calls the venue—and learns that Ui-joon blocked the newlyweds' car and made them late for their honeymoon. He’s been protecting her from the shadows this whole time.

Overwhelmed, she passes a street bar and almost gives in. But a heartfelt text from Gwang-ok stops her in her tracks: “You can rely on me—not alcohol.” Touched, Geum-ju walks away, buys gifts, and comes home... only to find Gwang-ok drunk.

Epilogue: Nurse Baek checks in on Ui-joon and finds his hidden pills. He confesses he’s back on them... because he’s scared. He likes Geum-ju—and he doesn’t know how to protect her anymore.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Second Shot at Love (2025)

Episodes 5 and 6 were peak emotional chaos—and I loved every second.

Episode 5 had everything: accidental bonding, surprise hiking injuries, awkward almost-kisses, and that soul-crushing moment when Ui-joon finally admits why he pushed Geum-ju away—because he liked her too much. The tension between them is so real it practically crackles. And don’t get me started on Young-woong getting hit by a bus because they forgot him. Only this show can make me laugh and tear up in the same breath.

Episode 6, though? Gut punch. We finally see the real reason Ui-joon ghosted Geum-ju, and it’s heartbreaking. That scene with his violent “father” explains everything. And Geum-ju almost drinking again, only to stop because of a text from her mom? That hit hard. Their growth is slow, messy, and painfully relatable.

Also, side note: Seon-wook and Hyeon-ju are killing me with the slow-burn awkwardness. That kiss? That ghosting? I'm rooting for them so hard.

The show’s doing an amazing job of showing recovery, regret, and real love—with all the bumps, bruises, and bad decisions along the way. Bring on Episode 7.
