The latest episodes of The Judge from Hell crank up the tension with unexpected twists, emotional confrontations, and a deeper dive into Bitna’s shifting morality. The Jiho case may be behind us, but Episode 5 throws us headfirst into new territory, blurring the line between justice and revenge—and setting the stage for the explosive drama to come.

After collapsing in the previous episode, Bitna is rushed to the hospital by Daon, with Arong and Mando anxiously observing. Though the doctor attributes her collapse to stress, it’s clear there’s more at play. Bitna’s chest pain hints at something deeper—perhaps her growing emotions for Daon are starting to take a toll.

Back at the villa, we’re treated to some dark humor as Bitna and Granny Oh Mija exchange snarky barbs about death, each playfully wishing the other would kick the bucket first. But things take a strange turn when religious zealot Jang Myungsook arrives, showering Bitna with blessings and praise for “surviving.” The comedic undertones make these scenes oddly charming, showing how Bitna’s interactions with humans are slowly pulling her away from her demon roots.

Meanwhile, Daon digs deeper into the previous murders, realizing the one clue left behind at each scene: Bitna’s drink cans. With the detective now living across the hall, Bitna scrambles to learn more about her human alter ego, sending Mando undercover to gather information. But Daon isn’t far behind—he tails her, albeit clumsily, only for Bitna to thwart him with ease.

The plot thickens when Arong reveals that a group of demons is on the hunt for Satan, who escaped Hell with the powerful artifact Kylum. Lucifer sits at the top of Hell’s hierarchy, with Bael and Satan as his rebellious lieutenants, and Bitna—aka Justitia—as the third in command. The Kylum is rumored to grant eternal life, adding a new layer of intrigue to the power struggles brewing in both Hell and Seoul.

In a brilliantly absurd twist, Daon stumbles into what he thinks is a demonic meeting, only to discover… they’re chefs. These demons hide in plain sight by perfecting culinary arts, cooking gourmet meals to avoid detection. As Daon bonds with one of the demons over an emotional moment—a dangerous act that could cost the demon his life—they strike a tenuous truce, promising to keep each other’s secrets for now.

Bitna’s assistant Mando continues his church antics, hilariously struggling to resist the pastor’s prayers to banish Satan. His ongoing crisis of faith adds a clever comedic element, balancing out the darker moments of the episode.

Meanwhile, a new case draws Bitna’s attention—the Seungbin family murder. Yang Seungbin, the sole survivor, appears to have multiple personalities, including a violent alter-ego named Koo Dowan. The fractured psyche adds complexity to the investigation, with Daon determined to uncover the truth despite skepticism from his colleagues.

Bitna seizes the opportunity to handle the case personally. As she watches the personalities clash in court, a mischievous smirk spreads across her face—she knows exactly how she wants to play this. When Daon presents damning evidence mid-trial, Bitna pulls a shocking move, declaring it inadmissible and ruling Seungbin not guilty by reason of insanity. The decision sends the courtroom into chaos, setting the stage for what comes next.

On the way to the holding cell, Seungbin’s transport is ambushed in classic K-drama fashion—a truck of doom barrels into the bus, flipping it over. In the chaos, masked men overpower the guards and abduct Seungbin. Daon, despite his best efforts, is no match for their supernatural strength. These kidnappers, of course, are working for Bitna, executing her version of justice.

Daon confronts Bitna, begging her to let the system run its course and give the victims closure. But Bitna, as stubborn as ever, dismisses him. She’s here to serve her own brand of judgment—swift, brutal, and final. Daon, undeterred, vows to bring her to justice, planting himself outside her apartment in protest.

As night falls, Bitna enacts her grim justice on Seungbin, forcing him to relive the terror he inflicted on his family before branding his forehead and sending him to Hell. Another soul marked with the “Gehenna” seal is added to her tally, though this time, her actions seem fueled by personal emotion rather than duty—a dangerous shift for a demon.

The next morning, Daon receives word that Seungbin’s body has been discovered—with the telltale Gehenna mark—right in their jurisdiction. Bitna’s satisfaction at the news surprises even her fellow judges, raising eyebrows about her growing emotional involvement.

The intrigue deepens as Chief Na questions Bitna’s benefactor, Jeong Jaegul, about his mysterious support for her. The uncomfortable dinner scene reveals that Bitna’s life before becoming Justitia was shrouded in loneliness and isolation. With no family or friends, Bitna’s human existence ended tragically—her stabbing case left unsolved and cold.

Meanwhile, a subplot unfolds involving demons tasked with eliminating those who fall in love with humans. When one such demon sacrifices himself to protect his human lover, it foreshadows what could become of Bitna if her feelings for Daon continue to grow.

The tension between Bitna and Daon escalates further as Daon accuses her of being behind both Seungbin’s murder and the recent death of another demon. Bitna brushes him off, calling him “boring,” but it’s clear she’s rattled. As she storms off, Tae-kyu intercepts her, warning her to stop using his family connections for leverage.

In true K-drama fashion, the episode ends with a cliffhanger: A woman in the villa neighborhood is ambushed in an alley, a knife glinting in the moonlight. With emotions running high, supernatural forces at play, and Bitna’s humanity slipping through the cracks, the stakes have never been higher.

These two episodes deliver everything you’d want—complex characters, dark humor, moral ambiguity, and a touch of romance simmering beneath the surface. With Bitna’s emotional turmoil deepening and Daon hot on her trail, it’s only a matter of time before something—or someone—breaks. And when it does, the fallout will be spectacular.

Opinion of The Judge from Hell (2024)

Daon vs. Demon? Good Luck, Buddy.

At this point, Daon’s unwavering moral compass and naïve belief that he can outmatch an actual demon are almost endearing—if not downright ridiculous. I mean, seriously, if I discovered undeniable proof that demons not only exist but are running around Earth dragging unrepentant murderers to Hell, I wouldn’t be getting in their way. My only request? Maybe skip the flashy forehead branding and stage the deaths to look accidental—purely to cut down on detective paperwork. Otherwise, I’m staying in my lane. Because… demons.

But honestly, overthinking the intricacies of this demonic justice system might be missing the point. This is, at its core, a love story—just with a supernatural twist. It’s not about Daon heroically defeating Bitna in some epic, biblical showdown. Instead, the real conflict lies in the fact that Bitna, a cold-hearted demon judge, seems to be falling for him—a human. And thanks to all the foreshadowing and heart-fluttering moments, it’s clear that this romance is a ticking time bomb. Why? Because we now know that Ah-rong, another demon on Earth, has been sent to punish any rogue demons who dare fall in love with humans. And she’s starting to suspect Bitna might be catching some very dangerous feelings.

But Ah-rong might just be the least of Bitna and Daon’s problems. For one, the mystery of who killed human Bitna is still hanging over us. If her ex-fiancé’s shady behavior is anything to go by, he seems like the type to resort to murder if she keeps standing in the way of his redevelopment project. Of course, this could all be a clever misdirect, with the show teasing us to believe Tae-kyu might be tied to the attack on Bitna’s neighbor at the end of Episode 6. And just when you think things couldn’t get more complicated, let’s not forget: Satan is also lurking somewhere among the humans. If Bitna manages to track down the Kylum—the artifact that grants eternal life—before he does, I highly doubt he’ll just shrug and say, "Finders keepers."

With romance, revenge, and supernatural forces all crashing together, things are heating up fast. Whether Bitna’s heart will thaw or Daon will be dragged into a demonic mess beyond his control, one thing’s certain—this love story is far from ordinary, and it’s only getting more dangerous from here.
