When a Snail Falls in Love- Drama Review

I just watched the newly released Thai version of this drama, and it immediately made me want to revisit the original Chinese version to compare the two. The Chinese adaptation was decent, with solid storytelling that kept me hooked, but after seeing the Thai take, I realized the original lacked something essential: variety and a stronger dose of romance. The Thai version brings a refreshing balance that feels more engaging, blending love and action in a way that caters to all audiences.

The action sequences in the Chinese version were spot on, and the casting was well thought out—each actor truly embodied their role. However, the pacing suffered in the final episodes, with the story dragging on and leaving behind a trail of loose ends. It felt like the writers scrambled to tie everything together, but in doing so, they left us with unresolved questions. For instance, what happened to the real killer? And what was the meaning behind the ML’s dizzy spells and blurry vision toward the end? These unanswered questions left me feeling a bit cheated.

I also didn't care for the final resolution as they showed the FL taking out the villain. It was so unrealistic and never could have been done in real life. It could have definitely been filmed better.

I must also touch on the romance aspect of the drama. If you read the books by Ding Mao, then you would know it has the sweetest love story between the snail and lion. The books show a beautiful balance between romance and action as the story progresses. Yet the writers for some reason decided to scratch most of the romance.

For example: XuXu's pursuer was scratched off. XuXu was also supposed to be the lion's only disciple, but they decided to include SFL. The reason why Ji Bai went to Myanmar changed and they also changed Yao Meng's character.

Also, the second leads had a more fulfilling story than the main leads. We kind of get this last minute reconciliation as the ML proposes to XuXu at his colleague/friend's wedding and the two take over the limelight. This just seemed rude to me and a bit rushed as they jump from a proposal to a graveyard scene. Really odd choice on how to end the drama in my opinion.

In the end, the Thai version just hit the right notes for me, delivering the romance and variety I had hoped for. While the Chinese version isn’t bad, it left me feeling a bit let down, especially with its bumpy ending. If I had to rate it, I’d give it a solid 6/10. The Thai adaptation, in my opinion, does a much better job bringing the story to life.
