DNA Lover- Episode 4
The Healing Gene
Episode 4 kicks off with A-ri visiting the church led by the captivating Father Andrea, and So-jin joining her in hopes of some divine intervention. She’s shaken after discovering that Yeon-u has the highest level of the "cheating gene" she’s ever seen. The fear that history will repeat itself and leave her heartbroken haunts her, but A-ri, ever pragmatic, suggests So-jin accept her fate—she's simply drawn to men with that gene.
Meanwhile, Yeon-u’s attention is elsewhere. At the hospital, he receives a mysterious flowerpot from a stranger, but brushes it off, focusing instead on a baby boy abandoned by his mother after birth. Father Andrea has been helping the family, but if the mother doesn’t return soon, the child will be sent to a welfare facility. As the day unfolds, Yeon-u grows anxious—why has So-jin been avoiding him? He was looking forward to hearing the results of her tests, but she and A-ri seem to be dodging him entirely. To make things more awkward, So-jin drops by the hospital for a lecture but says nothing about the tests, leaving Yeon-u in the dark.
Sung-mi, on the other hand, is wrapped up in her own drama. She confides in Jung-tam about her period delays and is unexpectedly touched when he tells her she's the coolest woman he’s ever known—finally, someone sees her as more than just a friend. Meanwhile, Mi-eun can’t stop thinking about Gang-hun. She tries to flirt with him during dinner, but he’s oblivious, leaving Yeon-u to tease her that she’ll never win Gang-hun over.
Back to A-ri, she finds herself smitten with Father Andrea after a chance encounter at a food truck—who knew potato skewers could lead to such sparks? As So-jin wrestles with how to break the news to Yeon-u about his genetic predisposition, she crosses paths with Yeon-u's mother at the research center. Yeon-u’s mom, desperately trying to stay slim to compete with her husband’s mistress, ignores So-jin’s advice about the dangers of under-eating. What So-jin doesn’t know is that this woman is Yeon-u’s mother, further fueling her frustration toward men who cheat.
Yeon-u is also struggling with his father’s endless affairs. Confronting his dad leads nowhere—the old man dismisses him, claiming it's impossible to stay with a woman he doesn’t love. How many women will he "love" in his lifetime, Yeon-u wonders bitterly.
As fate would have it, So-jin runs into Sang-min, the ex who cheated on her, now embroiled in yet another scandal. He’s being confronted by his latest girlfriend for triple-cheating on her. Furious, she walks out, and Sang-min swears he’ll get revenge on So-jin for ruining his life.
Later, So-jin texts Yeon-u, bluntly informing him about his "cheating gene" and advising him to meditate and visit the temple. Offended by her judgment, Yeon-u insists they could never date if she’s so fixated on DNA. Frustrated, he tells her that if she’s going to judge him based on a test, maybe he’s not interested in her either.
At a bar that night, Yeon-u unexpectedly runs into Mi-eun. Even though she’s there with a date, she ends up comforting him, surprised that So-jin's rejection bothers him so much. Across town, Gang-hun tries to console So-jin, telling her that DNA doesn’t determine fate. In a light-hearted moment, as he helps her down from a high spot, they stumble and fall on each other, leading So-jin to notice he smells like flowers—though he teases her by calling her a pervert.
Later that night, while throwing away the documents on Yeon-u, So-jin catches something she missed—Yeon-u has the rare "healing gene," meaning there’s hope after all. Could he be the one to heal her heartbreak?
The next day, Yeon-u tends to his patient, Ms. Heo, who asks about his childhood nickname to pass on to her baby. Little does Yeon-u know, Ms. Heo is involved with his father. When So-jin runs a prenatal test, she discovers the baby could go blind, and Ms. Heo reveals the shocking truth—she’s dating Yeon-u’s dad. Yeon-u, already aware of this from his mother, warns her that his father is unreliable and will only hurt her, but Ms. Heo accuses him of being jealous.
Later, Yeon-u runs into So-jin, and she tries to apologize, but he brushes her off, frustrated that she’s reducing their connection to a genetic test. As the night wears on, Yeon-u regrets his harsh words, while So-jin, troubled, realizes someone is following her. She calls Gang-hun for help, but he misses her alerts. By the time he arrives, he finds Yeon-u already at So-jin’s side after she took a fall. Gang-hun chases down the culprit, only to discover it’s Sang-min, seeking revenge.
The episode ends on a tense note, with So-jin thanking Yeon-u for his help and apologizing. She asks him to let her run more tests, now that she’s found the healing gene, but Yeon-u is done with her obsession over DNA. In a bold move, he pulls her close and kisses her, declaring that this is the only test that matters.
DramaZen's Opinion
One moment, we’re swept up in a rom-com, and the next, we’re teetering on the edge of a crime thriller. DNA Lover is a wild ride, but in the most entertaining way possible. That mistress reveal? Total curveball! It ties everything together, shedding light on Yeon-u’s fear of love—he’s spent his entire life dodging romance after witnessing the chaos of his parents' toxic relationship.
Yeon-u's frustration is completely valid. He’s not just his DNA, and it stings when So-jin rushes to judgment without really knowing him. Her fixation on genetics makes her forget that people are more than their biology—it’s the classic nature vs. nurture debate, and So-jin might be missing the bigger picture. I can see why dating her would get tiring after a while!
As sparks fly between them, the real question looms: Did So-jin even test the right person? Here's hoping we get concrete answers soon, because things are about to heat up!
