Chapter 32 - A Day to Remember

Last Updated on 2024-10-11 13:03:59

The decision had been made—Katelyn and Lucas were getting married in just one week. Their parents, full of excitement, hurried to organize the wedding, ensuring it would be the special day they both deserved. The days flew by faster than anyone anticipated, and before they knew it, the wedding day had arrived.

Katelyn stood in front of the mirror, her wedding gown flowing elegantly around her. Her mother, Emily, stood nearby, her eyes misting with tears as she admired her daughter.

"My daughter looks so beautiful in her wedding gown," Emily said, her voice wavering.

"Mom, please don’t cry, or I’ll start crying too," Katelyn replied, smiling softly, though she felt her own emotions rising.

Lily, her aunt, chimed in, a grin on her face. "Come on, you two—get it together. My niece looks absolutely gorgeous." She turned to Katelyn, her voice filled with warmth.

Rachel added with a knowing smile, "My son is going to be stunned when he sees you walking down the aisle toward him."

Katelyn’s heart fluttered. "Thanks, Aunt Lily, Mom," she said, trying to keep her emotions in check.

Just then, Samantha entered the room. "Hey everyone, the host said it’s time to get ready. Kate, your dad is waiting for you."

Katelyn took a deep breath, hugging everyone one last time before stepping out to meet her father.

Eric stood tall, waiting for his daughter with a soft smile that spoke volumes. When Katelyn approached, he pulled her into a hug. "My little girl is all grown up and about to belong to someone else," he said, his voice filled with love and pride. "Promise me, if you’re ever sad, you’ll come back home to your daddy."

Katelyn smiled, her heart swelling. "I will, Daddy. I love you, and you’ll always be the most important man in my life."

"I know, baby," Eric said, his eyes gleaming. "Now, let’s go before Lucas thinks you’ve changed your mind."

The music began to play, and the doors opened to reveal Katelyn, glowing in her gown, walking down the aisle with her father. All eyes turned toward her, but Lucas—standing at the altar—only had eyes for her. His breath caught in his chest as he watched her approach, unable to believe how lucky he was.

When they reached the altar, Eric placed Katelyn’s hand into Lucas’s. "She’s yours now," Eric said softly, "treat her right."

Lucas smiled, his heart full. "I will, Dad... always."

The preacher began the ceremony, and after a few words, it was time for Katelyn and Lucas to exchange their vows.

Lucas took a deep breath, looking into Katelyn’s eyes as he began. "My Kate, we may not have seen each other for many years since we were kids, but fate brought us back together. At first, I wasn’t sure if our parents made the right decision engaging us. But the moment I saw you in class, before I even knew who you were, I fell in love with you. You were so beautiful, and I knew then that I wanted to be with you forever. Fate was kind to me, and it gave me you."

Katelyn’s eyes filled with tears as she spoke her own vows, her voice trembling with emotion. "Lucas, I fell in love with you at first sight, too. When I saw you sitting in my living room after school that day, I knew I was blessed. Fate didn’t just bring us back together—it created a love between us that’s more beautiful than I ever imagined. I want you, for the rest of my life."

Lucas’s voice softened. "I love you."

"I love you, too," Katelyn replied, her smile radiant.

With their vows spoken and their hearts full, the couple said “I do” and sealed their marriage with a kiss. Cheers erupted from their friends and family, and the celebration of their new life together began.

———————————————————————————

Five years had passed since their wedding day. Lucas and Katelyn had graduated from college and now lived happily in a home they had bought together. Their love had only deepened with time, and every day felt like a new adventure.

One evening, Lucas returned home from work, tired but eager to see his wife. He walked through the door to find Katelyn waiting for him with dinner prepared, the house smelling of their favorite meal.

Lucas immediately walked over, hugging her tightly and kissing her lips. "I missed you today," he murmured.

Katelyn smiled, kissing him back. "I missed you, too. How was work?"

"Tiring," Lucas admitted as he sat down. "How was your day off?"

"Sam and I went out for a bit, and then I came home to cook for you," Katelyn replied, her eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief.

Lucas took a bite of the food and smiled. "Dinner’s delicious, as always. Thank you."

Katelyn grinned, sitting down beside him. "I have a surprise for you."

"For me?" Lucas’s eyebrows rose, intrigued.

Katelyn nodded, handing him a small gift box. "Open it."

Lucas opened the box, and inside were two tiny baby onesies. His heart skipped a beat as he looked at Katelyn in shock. "Does this mean what I think it does?"

Katelyn’s smile grew as she nodded. "Surprise! You’re going to be a daddy—and it’s twins. I’m four weeks pregnant."

Lucas jumped to his feet, wrapping Katelyn in a tight hug, lifting her off the ground as pure joy surged through him. "I’m going to be a dad?" he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "This is the best news I’ve ever heard."

"I’m so happy too," Katelyn said, her eyes filling with tears of joy as she held onto him.

Lucas kissed her deeply, his heart swelling with love for the woman who had given him everything. "I love you so much," he whispered against her lips.

"I love you more," Katelyn replied, resting her head against his chest, knowing that their love had only just begun to grow into something even more beautiful with their expanding family.
