Chapter 4 - Paper Hearts & Stolen Glances-Chanyeol and Baekhyun from EXO

Baekhyun slammed the stack of reports onto the desk, his patience wearing thinner by the second. "Your meeting starts in five minutes, Mr. Park," he said through gritted teeth.

Chanyeol barely looked up from his computer. "Cancel it."

Baekhyun’s eye twitched. Of course. Just another day working for Park Chanyeol—CEO, control freak, and all-around pain in his ass.

"You can't just cancel a meeting with the board five minutes before it starts!" Baekhyun snapped.

Chanyeol finally glanced at him, his deep voice calm but firm. "I can. I just did."

Baekhyun groaned, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. He had been working for Chanyeol for a year now, and every single day felt like a battle. The man was a genius businessman but an absolute nightmare of a boss—demanding, dismissive, and frustratingly good-looking.

Not that the last part mattered.

"I'm done," Baekhyun muttered, shaking his head. "I quit."

Chanyeol’s chair creaked as he leaned back, arms crossing over his broad chest. "No."

Baekhyun blinked. "No?"

"You can’t quit."

"You can't tell me what to do!" Baekhyun shot back.

Chanyeol smirked, standing up and stepping closer. "I’m your boss. Telling you what to do is literally my job."

Baekhyun opened his mouth, but no words came out. The way Chanyeol was looking at him—intense, almost desperate—made his stomach twist.

"Why do you even care?" Baekhyun asked, his voice quieter now.

Chanyeol sighed, raking a hand through his hair. "Because I need you."

Baekhyun’s heart skipped. "As your secretary?"

Chanyeol shook his head, stepping even closer. "No, Baekhyun. As you."

Silence. The office air felt thick, electric.

"You drive me crazy," Chanyeol admitted, voice raw. "But I can't imagine walking into this office without you in it. I can't imagine my days without hearing you argue with me."

Baekhyun swallowed, his anger dissolving into something more confusing. Something warmer.

"This isn't fair," he whispered.

"Then let me make it fair," Chanyeol said. And before Baekhyun could think, Chanyeol was kissing him—firm, desperate, like he had been holding back for too long.

Baekhyun melted into it, gripping Chanyeol’s shirt like it was the only thing keeping him upright. Maybe, just maybe, he had been fighting the wrong battle all along.

Baekhyun barely registered what was happening. One moment, he was ready to storm out of Chanyeol’s office for good, and the next, he was being kissed senseless by the very man he swore he couldn't stand.

His fingers clutched at Chanyeol’s crisp shirt, his mind screaming at him to push away, to yell, to remind Chanyeol that he had made his life miserable for the past year. But his heart—traitorous, foolish, aching—told him something else entirely.

Chanyeol pulled back, just enough to rest his forehead against Baekhyun’s, his breath warm and unsteady. “Say something,” he murmured.

Baekhyun let out a breathless laugh. “You’re a terrible boss.”

A slow, lopsided smile spread across Chanyeol’s face. “I know.”

Baekhyun stared up at him, searching for any sign that this was a joke, another one of Chanyeol’s twisted games. But all he saw was sincerity. The same man who had driven him insane for the past year now looked at him like he was the most important thing in the world.

Baekhyun took a step back, arms crossed. “So what now? You confess to liking me, I magically forget that you've been the most impossible man on earth, and we live happily ever after?”

Chanyeol exhaled sharply, rubbing the back of his neck. “I deserve that.” He hesitated, then took a deep breath. “I know I’ve been a nightmare to work for. But you’re the only one who ever stood up to me. The only one who could keep up.”

Baekhyun bit his lip. He wanted to stay mad. He wanted to tell Chanyeol he was full of shit. But his heart betrayed him. It always had, when it came to him.

“You’re really serious about this?” Baekhyun asked quietly.

Chanyeol nodded. “More than I’ve ever been about anything.”

Baekhyun sighed, shaking his head. “Fine.”

Chanyeol’s eyes lit up. “Fine?”

Baekhyun groaned. “Fine, I won’t quit. But if we’re doing this—whatever this is—you better make up for every migraine you’ve ever given me.”

Chanyeol grinned, stepping closer again, his hands sliding onto Baekhyun’s waist. “I can start making it up to you right now.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes but didn’t pull away. “You’re still impossible.”

“And you’re still here,” Chanyeol murmured, brushing a kiss against Baekhyun’s temple.

Baekhyun sighed dramatically. “Guess I am.”

And just like that, enemies turned into something else—something unexpected, something ridiculous, something real.

Maybe, Baekhyun thought, he had been fighting the wrong battle all along.
