Love, Lies & A Shocking Showdown! πŸ’”

This week’s episodes of Check in Hanyang were an emotional rollercoaster of revenge, romance, and heartbreaking revelations! From high-stakes fakeouts to awkward love confessions (seriously, that pickup line?!), we got it all. But just when things seemed to be settling down, the show ripped our hearts out with a gut-wrenching loss. Let’s break it all down!

First things first—Lady Seol LIVES! Turns out, she grabbed the sword with her bare hand (ouch) and dared Deok-soo to strike. But instead of revealing herself as a traitor, she drops a bombshell—she never betrayed Lord Hong. 😱

Cue flashback mode: On the night of Lord Hong’s death, Lady Seol actually begged him to run, but instead, he grabbed her sword and impaled himself. Whaaaaat?! So all these years, Deok-soo was chasing revenge against the wrong person?! Talk about a plot twist!

With her mind in turmoil, Deok-soo drops her weapon, too stunned to continue. Lady Seol’s words—Don’t let your father’s sacrifice be in vain—linger in the air, leaving our heroine completely shattered. πŸ’”

Despite the emotional chaos, it’s time for the grand opening of Bulrakho, Deok-soo’s brainchild gambling den! But of course, Minister Oh crashes the party like an annoying uncle nobody invited. πŸ˜’

Unfortunately for him, Deok-soo was 10 steps ahead. The gamblers? Qing envoys, meaning they have diplomatic immunity. Minister Oh has no choice but to back off (haha, take that!), and just like that, Bulrakho is officially a success! πŸŽ‰πŸ’° Lord Cheon is so impressed that he reinstates Deok-soo.

Back at Yongcheonru, sparks are flying left and right as Deok-soo and Eun-ho grow even closer. πŸ₯° When she realizes that he caught a cold while helping her fix Bulrakho’s plaque, she’s actually worried. That night, she opens up, questioning if she’s been chasing the wrong goal all along. Eun-ho, being the supportive softie he secretly is, reassures her: "If you realize you’re going the wrong way, just turn back."

And then—OMG—he tells her it’s okay to cry. πŸ₯Ή This is not the emotionally constipated Eun-ho we first met! Deok-soo finally lets out the tears she’s been holding back, and the next morning, she repays him in her own way—by applying fancy ointment to his injured finger. Swoon. 😍

Meanwhile, Jun-hwa is a MESS over his feelings for Deok-soo. Encouraged by our favorite wingman Soo-ra, he turns to Eun-ho for confession advice—which is the funniest mistake of his life. 🀣

Eun-ho, hearing the word “woman”, is so relieved (because he still thinks Deok-soo is a guy LOL). He even suggests the world’s worst pickup line:

πŸ‘‰ "If being beautiful is a crime, three generations of your family ought to be executed."

WHAT?! πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ Jun-hwa (understandably) ignores that and instead asks Eun-ho to describe his ideal type—leading to Eun-ho unknowingly gushing about Deok-soo while imagining her smile. Oh, sweet, oblivious fool.

Then, Jun-hwa finally gathers his courage and attempts his confession—but absolutely botches it:

πŸ‘‰ "Your smiling face ought to be executed!"

SIR. NO. THAT IS NOT HOW THIS WORKS. 🀦‍β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ And just when things couldn't get more awkward, Eun-ho barges in, armed with his own revelation—

πŸ‘‰ "Hong Deok-soo, you were… a WOMAN?!" 😱

Except—PLOT TWIST!

Just as it seems Deok-soo’s secret is out, her BFF Gu-Shil (Im So-yoon) arrives at the perfect moment and saves her with a ridiculous lie:

πŸ‘‰ "Actually, we’re engaged! And we’re off to have a steamy night!"

LMAO. πŸ˜‚ The sheer shock on Eun-ho and Jun-hwa’s faces?! ICONIC. And Eun-ho actually believes them?!HOW?!

To cover up the mess, Jun-hwa bluffs that he was just practicing his confession on Deok-soo (buddy, nobody believes you), and somehow, Eun-ho buys both of their ridiculous lies. At this point, is he really this dense, or is he in deep denial? πŸ€”

As a reward for Bulrakho’s profits, Lord Cheon invites Deok-soo’s family to Yongcheonru, and cue the wholesome family bonding! πŸ₯°

Mom’s homemade soup wins over everyone—even the fussy Qing envoy. Meanwhile:
πŸ’– Jun-hwa flirts with Mom (shamelessly)
🌸 Eun-ho is awkwardly bashful (adorable)
😈 Soo-ra teases Deok-soo about her ‘steamy night’ (πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

But before we get too comfortable—tragedy strikes. 😭

Lady Seol warns Mom about Lord Cheon, but before Mom can drag Deok-soo to safety, Lord Cheon figures out who she is first—and forces poison down her throat. πŸ˜¨πŸ’€

By the time Deok-soo and Gu-Shil find her, it’s too late—Mom is coughing up blood. NOOOOO! πŸ˜πŸ’”

With her last breath, Mom warns Deok-soo that Lord Cheon wants her dead. And in a scene that absolutely wrecked my soul, she dies in Deok-soo’s arms.

The next time Deok-soo faces Lord Cheon, she slowly unties her topknot, letting her hair fall loose.

πŸ‘‰ "I am Hong Jae-on," she declares, a single tear falling from her eye.

CHILLS. FULL-BODY CHILLS. 😱πŸ”₯

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Check in Hanyang (2024)

“HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO RECOVER FROM THIS?!”

πŸ₯Ή Most Heartbreaking Moment: Mom’s death scene absolutely wrecked me. The way Deok-soo finally embraced her true identity out of grief and fury??? I HAVE NO WORDS.

πŸ˜‚ Funniest Moment: That confession scene. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. Between Jun-hwa’s terrible pick-up lines and Eun-ho’s absolute obliviousness, I was WHEEZING.

πŸ’– Best OTP Moment: Deok-soo crying in front of Eun-ho for the first time, and him telling her it’s okay to be vulnerable? πŸ₯ΉπŸ’• He’s so in love and doesn’t even KNOW it yet.

🚨 BIGGEST QUESTION: Now that Deok-soo has revealed her real identity, what’s next?! Will she take revenge on Lord Cheon, or will Eun-ho pull her back from the edge?!

Next week’s preview looks INSANE, and I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. Drop your theories in the comments! β¬‡οΈπŸ’¬
