Newtopia- Episodes 1-2
If you thought military life was tough, just wait until you add zombies into the mix! Newtopia kicks off with an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, love, and unexpected mayhem in a world that’s about to turn upside down. Buckle up—because we’ve got everything from long-distance relationship drama to a full-blown zombie outbreak. Let’s dive in! 🚀
Our story begins with Lee Jae-yoon, who’s just started his mandatory military service, dreaming about the day he’s finally free. He’s counting down the days until he can reunite with his girlfriend, Young-joo—but, uh-oh, reality check! He’s just getting started. Meanwhile, his fellow soldier, Ra In-ho, is dreaming of something far less romantic—an imminent attack. Little does he know, his nightmare might just come true. 😱
Jae-yoon’s military life is off to a rough start as he sneaks a phone call to Young-joo while on duty. But instead of a cute conversation, he finds out she was out drinking and brought home by another guy! Cue the jealous boyfriend rage. 😤 Young-joo, on the other hand, is not thrilled about being woken up at 3 AM and ditches the call to puke. Romantic.
Their relationship is already hanging by a thread when Jae-yoon keeps getting punished for goofing off in the army. In-ho is no better—they both keep messing up, dragging their squad down with them. As punishment? Climbing 77 flights of stairs in full gear! (Military service just got a lot worse. 😰)
Meanwhile, Young-joo gets closer to Jin-wook, her senior at work, who clearly has a thing for her. She starts ignoring Jae-yoon’s calls, while he scrambles to find a way to talk to her—using a hotel chef’s phone, no less! Their relationship tension boils over when Young-joo finally asks the big question: Are we even getting married? Jae-yoon, unable to promise anything, gets dumped over the phone. 💔
As Young-joo wallows in heartbreak, Jin-wook steps in to take her out for lunch. But just as they start talking… BAM! A random man crashes into their car, his eyeball flying onto Young-joo’s neck. Yep, you read that right. 😵💫 Meanwhile, at Jae-yoon’s military base, he and In-ho notice something terrifying—a plane is heading straight for their building.
Welcome to Newtopia, folks. 😵
Picking up right where we left off—Jae-yoon and In-ho stare in horror as a plane hurtles toward them. Just when it seems like impact is inevitable, it swerves and crashes into the busy city streets, erupting into flames. The world is officially going insane. 🚨🔥
Young-joo is left shaken by the accident, while Jin-wook? He’s too busy worrying about his car insurance (seriously, dude?! 🙄). She takes matters into her own hands, grabs the dislodged eyeball (because someone has to be responsible), and tries to help the injured man. That’s when a CEO, Alex, jumps in to assist—but he accidentally crushes the guy’s ribs while giving CPR. The crowd turns on him, because, well… now it looks like he killed the man. Awkward.
Meanwhile, inside the hotel, Jae-yoon and In-ho hop into an elevator with the manager, Arron Park, who is not happy to see them. But before he can kick them out, the elevator suddenly stops. When it finally opens, they’re greeted with a horrifying sight—blood-soaked walls, people screaming, and a man getting his head crushed by the elevator doors. Welcome to the apocalypse, boys. 🧟♂️
As chaos spreads, zombies start swarming the city. Young-joo and Jin-wook get separated from Alex, and she takes shelter in a salon with a mysterious woman. Jin-wook? He pees himself in terror. (Not exactly hero material, huh? 😬)
Back at the base, the military declares a state of emergency, and the soldiers prepare for battle. But Jae-yoon and In-ho can’t even get inside! They’re locked out and now have to fight their way through zombie-infested territory to get back. Along the way, they find Soo-jeong, a hotel staff member, hiding in a back room.
Young-joo, still desperate to see Jae-yoon, ignores all logic and decides to head toward the military base. Because, obviously, that’s what you do in a zombie outbreak. 😓 She texts Jae-yoon that she’s coming—right as a hoard of zombies starts breaking through the hotel’s glass doors.
The episode ends with Jae-yoon, panicking, trying to come up with a plan… but the glass is already cracking.
CLIFFHANGER ALERT! 🚨 Will Jae-yoon survive? Will Young-joo make it? And most importantly… what happened to Alex?!
DramaZen's Opinion
"I’m OBSESSED!"
Okay, let’s talk about how Newtopia just came in swinging with one of the wildest first episodes I’ve ever seen! This drama is giving military K-drama, relationship angst, AND full-on zombie horror all in one go—and I am here for it. 🎬🔥
Jae-yoon and Young-joo’s relationship is already so messy (in the best way), and I love how realistic their struggles feel. Plus, In-ho? Absolute comedic relief—but also surprisingly deep? The way he tries to cheer Jae-yoon up with doughnutswhile lowkey being a survival genius?? We love to see it. 👏😂
But let’s talk about that ending. Zombies, elevator horror, and a freaking eyeball scene?? This show is NOT holding back. The way it built up from everyday life to full-fledged horror was so well done. And the cliffhanger?! How are we supposed to wait for the next episode?! 😭💀
I NEED answers! I NEED action! And I definitely need more Alex. Where is he?!
Newtopia is already shaping up to be a must-watch, so if you haven’t started yet—what are you waiting for?! 🍿🔥
