Heartbreak, Heroism & One Final Transformation

Episode 5 of Newtopia hits hard from the opening scene and never lets up, delivering one emotional gut-punch after another—alongside plenty of zombie-slaying action. As chaos builds inside and outside Tower A, loyalties are tested, heroes fall, and a new tragedy begins to unfold.

The Helicopter That Brought No Hope

The episode kicks off with what should've been a lifeline: a military helicopter packed with food arriving at Tower A. But hope turns to horror when In-ho spots the truth—the pilots aren’t human anymore. In a tough call, the Sergeant orders the helicopter shot down, sacrificing supplies for safety. While he’s later scolded by his superiors, it’s clear survival is the new chain of command.

Rations, Rifles, and Rising Tensions

With food dangerously low, the troops—joined by Oh Soo-jeong now in full combat mode—head downstairs to scavenge. The squad clears floors with precision headshots, inching closer to whatever supplies remain. Meanwhile, Kang Young-joo, Seo Jin-wook, Alex, and a newly introduced student arrive at the building—but the front is swarming with the undead.

The Basement Mayhem

The team detours to the basement to reach Alex's car, where tools might help them survive. They split into pairs, but chaos erupts when a zombie horde descends. Alex’s scream is the only warning Young-joo and Jin-wook get. A frantic climb onto cars becomes a fight for survival—hockey sticks versus the undead.

Then Alex lights up the battlefield—literally—with Molotov cocktails. It buys them precious seconds. Young-joo and Jin-wook flee, but Alex is swarmed. Even as he fights, he’s bitten. Young-joo tries to save him, but Jin-wook pulls her to safety. They hide in a valet booth as Alex is tragically consumed by both flames and zombies.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

The student returns too late, watching as the fire consumes Alex. Grief-stricken, he walks away. Elsewhere in the tower, the military team discovers a hidden chef and finally contacts Young-joo through Lee Jae-yoon’s Wi-Fi-connected phone. Their reunion is emotional but short-lived. Young-joo reveals she's inside the tower—something Jae-yoon lies about, urging her to head for Suseo Station instead. The call cuts off, leaving both more anxious than before.

Loss Within the Ranks

Just as things seem to calm, disaster strikes again. The Sergeant is bitten. In a heartbreaking scene, he slowly turns, tears in his eyes, before Team Leader Kim Young-man delivers the mercy shot. It’s a brutal reminder: no one is safe.

A Hero in the Shadows

In the basement, the student (still under the effects of a zombie bite but oddly immune) finds the car and pulls off a daring rescue, smashing through the undead to save Young-joo and Jin-wook. Jin-wook takes the wheel and insists on a detour—to get Young-joo medical help at his mother’s hospital.

But the student? He’s changing.

Realizing he’s turning, he quietly asks to be dropped off, pretending he just wants to go home. He hides the truth, sparing them worry. As zombies approach, he fights them off one last time, yelling for them to leave his friends alone.

A Final Stand

As Jin-wook and Young-joo drive off, she realizes something chilling: they never even asked the student’s name. On the empty road, he watches them disappear. Then, the final transformation begins—his body convulses, eyes glaze over, and he becomes what he fought so hard against.

And with that haunting image, Episode 5 of Newtopia comes to a heart-wrenching close.

Chaos in the Station, Chainsaws, and a Race Through the Vents

Episode 6 of Newtopia throws us right back into the madness—and it's one wild ride from start to finish. From stapler-wielding survivors to heart-wrenching sacrifices, this episode amps up the emotional stakes and the zombie count in equal measure.

Stapler Man Rises

We open with Aron Park waking up drunk, dazed, and barely functioning. But nothing screams "zombie apocalypse survivor" like duct-taping sofa cushions to your body and picking up a commercial stapler as your weapon of choice. It's hilarious and heartbreaking all at once.

Meanwhile, the military team mourns their fallen sergeant and appoints Kim Young-man as the new commander. With leadership in place, they take the VIP elevator to move downward—only to be met with an unexpected reunion.

Elevator Ambush

As the doors slide open, there stands Aron, stapler in hand. Jae-yoon, In-ho, and Soo-jeong are thrilled to see him, but their happiness is short-lived when a private spots a bite mark on Aron and refuses to let him in. The group starts to argue, but before the situation can be resolved, the glass ceiling above them shatters—and zombies come pouring in.

What follows is pure chaos. The team scatters, including Aron, as they’re forced to flee through the building with death closing in on all sides.

Stolen Cars & Subway Terror

Elsewhere, Kang Young-joo and Seo Jin-wook are en route to the hospital. But city-wide evacuation orders redirect everyone to Suseo Station, clogging the roads. Things take a dark turn when their car is hijacked by a group of thugs who leave them stranded. With no choice left, they head for the subway.

And the subway is a nightmare.

The station is swarming with panicked civilians. When the first train zooms past without stopping, the crowd starts to crack. Then the glass barriers shatter, and people fall onto the tracks—just in time for another train to barrel through. It's a brutal, frantic moment. Amid the chaos, Young-joo loses Jin-wook.

A Mother’s Voice and a Chainsaw’s Roar

Trying to save a child and grandmother, Young-joo gives up her chance to board the next train. She watches in horror as the last coaches begin filling with people turning into zombies. Her worst fears are realized when she later finds Jin-wook’s bloodied wristwatch on the tracks.

In a gut-wrenching twist, the same grandmother she saved descends onto the tracks. Young-joo rushes to help—only to realize the woman has turned. She’s forced to slam the zombie’s head into a speeding train in a moment that’s both savage and tragic.

In shock and beginning to hallucinate, Young-joo stumbles into a staff-only area and finds a broken chainsaw. In true action-hero fashion, she fixes it with her mechanical skills and uses it to carve her way through a horde of zombies.

Aron’s Secret & A Narrow Escape Route

Back at the hotel, the troops split up to hide in rooms. Aron is once again left behind because of the bite mark, but here’s the kicker—when zombies come for him, they ignore him entirely. He’s immune.

Realizing he might be the key to everyone’s escape, Aron explores and discovers a working air vent system leading to safety. He reunites with Jae-yoon and the others and guides them to escape through the ducts.

Vent Crawl from Hell

As the team shuffles through the cramped vents, romance peeks through the cracks. Kwak Gye-young and Oh Soo-jeong, who promised each other a date if they survive, crawl forward together—only to be stopped cold by a terrifying sound behind them.

They turn to see a swarm of zombies barreling through the vents. And just like that, Episode 6 ends on yet another high-stakes cliffhanger.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Newtopia (2025)

Brutal, Brilliant, and Absolutely Unmissable

Wow—episodes 5 and 6 of Newtopia had me glued to the screen. This drama just keeps raising the bar with every episode. The emotional stakes? Sky-high. The zombie horror? Next level. And the character arcs? Chef’s kiss.

Episode 5 was a heartbreak buffet. Alex’s sacrifice, the sergeant’s tragic end, and the student’s slow, gut-wrenching transformation into a zombie—all of it hit hard. That final moment of him standing alone on the road? I’m still not over it.

Then episode 6 came in with chaos, chainsaws, and subway madness. Young-joo is honestly becoming one of the strongest characters in the show—her growth, her grief, her insane chainsaw moment? ICONIC. And Aron Park? From comic relief to MVP. The twist that he’s immune?! Genius.

The ending with Soo-jeong and Gye-young hearing the zombie horde in the vents? Pure nightmare fuel. I’m already dreading (and dying to see) what happens next.

Newtopia isn’t just a zombie show—it’s a masterclass in survival storytelling. Bring on Episode 7! 🧟‍♂️🔥💔
