The Witch- Episodes 5-6
The Rules of Death
Just when we thought The Witch couldn’t get any more chilling, Episode 5 takes us on a deep dive into Lee Dong-jin’sinvestigation of Park Mi-jeong—and what he discovers might just confirm her deadly curse.
Determined to uncover the truth, Dong-jin returns to his hometown, questioning the village head, who also happens to be a realtor. His first lead? A man who had survived a wild boar attack after visiting Mi-jeong’s home.
The man recalls that he went to offer condolences for her father’s passing, but at the last moment, he held back from confessing his feelings to her. On his way home, he was suddenly chased by a wild boar—a near-death experience that he can’t quite explain.
Dong-jin doesn’t stop there. He recruits his old friends to help him dig up records of Mi-jeong’s past, hoping to find patterns in the tragedies that seem to follow her.
His search takes him to a high school storage room, where Seo Da-eun, now a teacher, helps him gather old documents. She later makes a shocking confession—she was the one who spread the rumors about Mi-jeong back in high school, fueled by jealousy over Mi-jeong’s connection with Ik-jong, a boy Da-eun liked. She begs Dong-jin to apologize to Mi-jeong on her behalf.
The Survivors and the Injured
Determined to get first-hand accounts, Dong-jin begins tracking down every man who ever had a romantic connection—or even just an interaction—with Mi-jeong.
- A former classmate who had a crush on her? Suffered a minor injury.
- A boy who gave her flowers? Got into an accident.
- A man who confessed to her in high school? Broke his ankle.
- A series of other men? All had some form of injury—though not all of them were directly connected to Mi-jeong.
The pattern is undeniable.
Establishing the “Rules of Death”
Like the data-driven mind he is, Dong-jin maps out the locations of the incidents and analyzes the distance between Mi-jeong and the victims. The results are disturbing:
🔺 The Danger Zone: A 10-meter radius around Mi-jeong.
From his research, he establishes a terrifying set of rules:
- Being in the same space as her is dangerous.
- Holding a conversation with her is dangerous.
- Being acquainted with her is dangerous.
- Confessing your feelings to her is dangerous.
- Breaking all of these rules will result in death.
Dong-jin’s investigation eventually leads him to Ik-jong, the senior Mi-jeong liked in high school. However, Ik-jong denies remembering the incident where he was stung by a wasp while talking to her. Is he lying? Or is he the exception to the rule?
Things get even more interesting when Dong-jin meets a cinema employee who collapsed in the subway after confessing to Mi-jeong. According to Dong-jin’s research, this man should have died—but he survived.
Then, he realizes something game-changing: Mi-jeong never knew this man’s real name. She only knew him by his employee name tag, “Brad.”
The Revised Rule
Dong-jin modifies his theory:
🚨 Rule #2 is now: “If she knows your name, it is dangerous.”
A Warning from the Universe?
Dong-jin returns to his apartment and measures the distance between his room and Mi-jeong’s house—approximately 10 meters when she’s inside.
Just then, Mi-jeong steps outside for a walk.
As she approaches, something eerie happens—the measuring tape in Dong-jin’s hand suddenly snaps back, cutting his cheek.
Coincidence? Or a warning that he’s getting too close?
The episode ends with Dong-jin stepping back as Mi-jeong silently returns to her room.
The Experiment Begins
Just when we thought The Witch couldn’t get any more intense, Episode 6 ramps up the mystery, blending chilling coincidences with an unsettling scientific approach. Lee Dong-jin is no longer just investigating Park Mi-jeong—he’s about to test the curse on himself.
We kick off with a surprising reveal—Mi-jeong’s landlady isn’t just some random property owner. She’s actually the aunt of Heo Eun-sil, Mi-jeong’s only friend and former college senior. Unlike the rest of the world, Mi-jeong shares a good relationship with her landlady, who also happens to be a PD at a broadcasting company.
Enter Dong-jin, smooth as ever. He approaches the landlady, claiming he’s gathering data on Mi-jeong to help her come out of her shell. (A noble mission? Or an obsession? At this point, the line is blurry.)
Through Eun-sil’s perspective, we finally get a deeper look at Mi-jeong’s college life at Hankook University, where she tried her hardest to stay invisible. But, as always, she couldn’t escape the attention—especially from men.
🔹 Ik-jong reappeared in her life, but he pretended not to know her, having already heard the whispers from their hometown.
🔹 A persistent admirer wouldn’t leave her alone, even as she actively avoided him. One day, he fell down a staircase and injured himself—another "coincidence" to add to her list.
🔹 Then, things took an even darker turn.
One of Mi-jeong’s married professors developed an inappropriate interest in her. After an exam, he attempted to confess his feelings, but Mi-jeong walked away before he could even finish. Moments later, while gazing at her from a building window, he fell to his death.
With that, the rumors about Mi-jeong being a witch became unshakable “facts”. Overwhelmed and unable to handle the stigma, she dropped out of college and disappeared.
Eun-sil didn’t give up on Mi-jeong. After searching, she eventually found her living in the slums, actively avoiding people at all costs. Though Eun-sil gave her her contact information, Mi-jeong didn’t reach out until months later—after her place was broken into.
That was when Eun-sil stepped in, helping secure her the rooftop apartment at her aunt’s house, where she remains today.
After learning more about Mi-jeong’s past, Eun-sil arranges for Dong-jin to meet people who had previously interacted with her, allowing him to gather even more data for his ever-growing hypothesis.
But Dong-jin is done observing. Now, he’s ready to test the curse firsthand.
His plan?
- Take a part-time job as a delivery worker.
- Ensure that he only works on the day Mi-jeong orders groceries.
- Limit his time near her to exactly 10 minutes.
Finally, the moment arrives. Dong-jin hands Mi-jeong her parcel—and as the 10-minute timer begins, the screen cuts to black.

A Chilling Deep Dive into the Curse
Episodes 5 and 6 of The Witch take the suspense to a whole new level, blending mystery, psychological tension, and eerie coincidences that are becoming harder to ignore.
Dong-jin’s obsession with Mi-jeong’s so-called curse has fully consumed him, leading to a methodical investigation that feels both scientific and deeply unsettling. His "Rules of Death" theory? Absolutely chilling. And just when you think he’s done gathering data, he decides to test the curse on himself—because why not risk your life for the sake of research, right?
Mi-jeong’s backstory hits even harder in these episodes. Her past is a never-ending cycle of tragedy, fear, and isolation, making it easy to see why she’s given up on connections altogether. Learning that her college experience ended in another death only solidifies how cursed she seems. And yet, Dong-jin is determined to get closer.
The tension is at an all-time high as Episode 6 ends with a 10-minute countdown—Dong-jin standing face-to-face with Mi-jeong, waiting to see if his hypothesis holds. Will he survive it? Or is he tempting fate one time too many?
I love how The Witch keeps walking the fine line between supernatural horror and psychological thriller. Every episode makes you question: Is this all just bad luck? Or is there something truly unexplainable at play?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) – Absolutely gripping. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
