The Witch- Episodes 7-8
Pushing the Limits of Fate
If you thought Lee Dong-jin was done tempting fate, Episode 7 of The Witch proves otherwise. This man is no longer just investigating Park Mi-jeong’s so-called curse—he’s actively trying to outrun death itself. And honestly? It’s both thrilling and terrifying to watch.
Observing the Witch
Dong-jin has become a full-fledged Mi-jeong expert, tracking her daily routine with scientific precision. His findings?
๐น She has no friends except for Eun-sil.
๐น She avoids human interaction as much as possible.
๐น Once a month, she takes a solo bus trip—destination unknown.
Meanwhile, back in the present, Dong-jin finally meets Mi-jeong face-to-face—under the guise of delivering her package. While helping her check the order, he secretly times their interaction, gathering data like a researcher studying a rare phenomenon.
And then? The real experiment begins.
10 Minutes of Safety… Or So He Thinks
At first, Dong-jin determines that being within 10 meters of Mi-jeong for up to 10 minutes is safe. Encouraged by this, he decides to push the limit—staying near her for 10 minutes and 14 seconds.
Big mistake.
As soon as he leaves, he loses his balance on the stairs and breaks his ankle—the first real warning that his theory might be dangerously flawed.
The Rules Keep Changing
Determined to refine his findings, Dong-jin delivers another package to Mi-jeong, but this time, she tries to pay by card. With the 10-minute limit fast approaching, his anxiety spikes. Miraculously, they complete the transaction just in time, and he leaves without incident.
Or so he thinks.
Moments later, a falling signboard crashes onto him. Another freak accident, despite following his so-called safety rules.
While recovering in the hospital, Dong-jin reevaluates his experiment. Was it the amount of time that triggered the incident? Or something else? He begins to suspect that the number of exchanges between them might be a hidden factor.
Meanwhile, Mi-jeong, who had been looking forward to seeing him, is disappointed when he doesn’t arrive.(Wait… is she starting to care?)
Leveling Up His Survival Plan
Now fully committed to his death-defying research, Dong-jin upgrades his strategy:
โ Protective biker suit
โ Upgraded helmet
โ Workout routine to improve endurance
He meets Mi-jeong again, carefully counting the number of interactions. This time, he deliberately exceeds ten exchanges.
Result? Another hospital trip.
At this point, Eun-sil begs him to stop, but let’s be real—Dong-jin is far past the point of quitting.
The Deadly Bus Ride
One of Mi-jeong’s most mysterious habits is her monthly solo bus ride. This time, Dong-jin follows her—but strategically picks the last available seat, ensuring he stays just outside the danger zone (11 meters away).
But fate (or the curse?) isn’t about to let him off that easily.
As night falls and the weather worsens, Mi-jeong offers her seat to an elderly woman—moving her closer to Dong-jin without realizing it. The gap between them closes, and suddenly, he’s inside the 10-meter radius.
Then comes the final straw.
Traffic halts. The bus gets stuck, and Dong-jin realizes time is running out. If he stays inside much longer, he might not make it out alive.
So, he makes a desperate move—jumping out of the bus window.
But the moment he does, Mi-jeong recognizes him.
Every rule of death is now broken.
The Final Gamble: Jumping Into the Han River
With no time left and no escape, Dong-jin trusts statistical data—no lightning has ever struck the Han River before.
With one last gamble, he jumps into the river… and the episode fades to black.
The Heartbreaking Truth Behind the Curse
If Episode 7 was all about pushing fate, Episode 8 delivers the crushing realization that no matter how much Lee Dong-jin tries to decode Park Mi-jeong’s curse, some things just can’t be explained away by logic. And for the first time, he’s forced to confront a truth that even science can’t help him escape.
Saved from the Edge of Death
We pick up right where we left off—Dong-jin plunging into the Han River, hoping to outrun fate.
Time skips forward, and we see paramedics pulling him from the water, rushing him into an ambulance. Meanwhile, Mi-jeong stands on the bridge, watching the scene unfold. There’s a flicker of relief in her eyes—not just because he survived, but because help arrived in time.
But why?
Does she feel responsible for him now? Or was this the moment she realized that Dong-jin isn’t like the others?
The Flashback: Mi-jeong Noticed Him First
For the first time, we see Mi-jeong’s perspective from high school—and the truth is, she had noticed Dong-jin long before he ever approached her.
Unlike the rest of their classmates, who treated their schoolmate’s death with gossip and whispers, Dong-jin had grieved in silence, genuinely shaken. It was then that Mi-jeong first locked eyes with him, realizing that he was different. And yet, they never spoke.
The Experiment Was Never About Science
Back in the present, Dong-jin wakes up in the hospital, explaining to Jung-hyeok (with shocking casualness) that his near-death stunt was simply part of an experiment. (Because of course it was.)
Eun-sil also visits, worried sick, but Dong-jin has one more request for her.
A Camping Trip & A Revelation
Eun-sil takes Mi-jeong on a camping trip, but this isn’t just a getaway—it’s a covert mission. Over the phone, she feeds Dong-jin updates as she carefully questions Mi-jeong about her past.
The big question?
Did she ever like someone before?
Mi-jeong finally opens up about Im Ik-jon, her former high school senior, revealing something that changes everything—Ik-jon had epilepsy.
In a flashback, we see Ik-jon suffer a seizure at church, and Mi-jeong, knowing the shame he’d feel if people found out, cleverly disguises it as an accident. It was a moment of kindness, but more importantly—she truly cared for him.
But by the time they met again in college, her feelings for him had already faded.
Breaking All the Rules—And Surviving
Eun-sil starts cross-referencing Mi-jeong’s memories with the so-called “Rules of Death.”
๐น Ik-jon broke every single one.
๐น He should have died.
๐น But he didn’t.
And that’s when it clicks—Ik-jon actually confessed to Mi-jeong.
She never realized it at the time, but he had written his confession in the last pages of a notebook he gave her before leaving for college.
The twist? She had thrown it away.
And who found it? Dong-jin.
The Shocking Truth: The Only Way to Survive
Dong-jin finally tracks down Ik-jon, seeking the truth.
And what he finds devastates him.
Ik-jon was the only exception because Mi-jeong actually liked him back.
That’s it. That’s the loophole.
Mi-jeong’s curse is only fatal if her feelings aren’t reciprocated.
Dong-jin has spent his entire life chasing an answer that could never be solved with data. The only way he can beat the curse—is if Mi-jeong loves him.
And right now, she doesn’t.
Dong-jin’s Final Gamble
Instead of giving up, Dong-jin prepares for what feels like his final showdown.
โ Intense training
โ Packing up his belongings
โ One last attempt to break through to Mi-jeong
He finally reveals himself as the delivery person.
And instead of pushing his theories on her, he does something completely unexpected—he apologizes.
“I couldn’t help you,” he tells her. “I had a lot prepared to say. But none of this was ever your fault. You should live your life normally.”
For the first time, he stops treating her like a mystery to be solved—and just sees her as a person.
Before leaving, he hands her a present from their classmates.
And just when we think he’s finally done chasing fate…
A Truck Comes Straight for Him
As Dong-jin walks away, a truck barrels toward him.
Is this it? Is fate finally catching up with him?
DramaZen's Opinion
A Fatal Truth Uncovered
Episodes 7 and 8 of The Witch hit like a truck—literally. Dong-jin’s reckless experiments have reached terrifying new heights, and just when we think he might finally crack the code behind Mi-jeong’s curse, the truth turns out to be crueler than we ever imagined.
Dong-jin’s obsession with rules and statistics has been fascinating to watch, but these episodes prove that some things can’t be reduced to data points. His near-death stunts keep getting riskier (jumping into the Han River? Really?), and yet, the actual answer to surviving the curse was in front of him the whole time:
The only way to break the curse is if Mi-jeong actually loves him back.
That realization hit hard. It’s heartbreaking to see Dong-jin come so far, only to learn that all his efforts might be pointless if Mi-jeong doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. And the final scene? That truck cliffhanger has me on edge—is this fate striking back? Or will he somehow survive?
I love how The Witch keeps playing with the tension between supernatural horror and psychological thriller. The curse feels both real and impossible at the same time, and these episodes perfectly blur the line between fate, coincidence, and obsession.
What do you think? Is Dong-jin about to become the curse’s next victim? Or will Mi-jeong finally break the cycle? Let’s discuss!
