The Trunk- Episode 7
Episode 7 of The Trunk delivers an emotional rollercoaster, tying together past heartbreaks and present dangers with ever-deepening suspense. The episode begins with a flashback to Hye-yeong’s funeral, where a grieving In-ji is the only mourner. Meanwhile, a young Jeong-won visits his mother’s grave and crosses paths with In-ji, who gives him slippers after noticing his torn sandals. Their connection deepens when he reassures her that she’s not responsible for her friend’s death—a moment that lingers into their present.
Back in the present, the chaos intensifies as In-ji finds Do-ha’s bloody knife in her apartment. Jeong-won shows up in a panic after tracking her down, but the tension between them boils over, and she lashes out, accusing him of meddling. Meanwhile, Tae-song resurfaces, nursing his injuries and reflecting on his twisted motivations. A flashback reveals that he was the one who exposed Do-ha’s bisexuality to In-ji’s mother, leading to Do-ha’s scandal and their engagement falling apart.
Jeong-won, struggling with his feelings, vents to Hyeon-cheol but softens when In-ji sends him an apology. Si-jeong, meanwhile, pushes In-ji to acknowledge her growing happiness with Jeong-won, insisting she’s in love. But In-ji dismisses the idea, convinced their relationship is temporary.
The drama peaks when Seo-yeon visits Jeong-won, trying to manipulate him into a divorce by revealing petty details from their past—like how she only cared about him because of her annoyance with In-ji. Jeong-won sees through her ploy, and Seo-yeon, clearly rattled, attempts to insult In-ji when they cross paths. But In-ji remains unfazed, amused by Seo-yeon’s insecurity.
Do-ha finally texts In-ji, leading to a heartfelt lunch where they confront their unresolved past. Both admit they’ve been in emotional limbo, and their bittersweet closure leaves In-ji crying—not for Do-ha, but for the solace Jeong-won provides. Their contrasting lives are highlighted by the chaotic yet tender moments between Hyeon-cheol and Yun-a, whose messy but endearing family dynamics provide a counterpoint to Jeong-won and In-ji’s quiet connection.
The tension explodes as Tae-song reveals his obsession with exposing In-ji’s fake marriage to Jeong-won, even blaming Do-ha for the pharmacist’s death. In-ji, horrified, retreats to Jeong-won’s office but is confronted by Tae-song in the garage. The confrontation escalates until Jeong-won arrives just in time, punching Tae-song to protect her.
Jeong-won’s fury mounts as he discovers Seo-yeon’s spycam and watches footage of In-ji breaking down after learning about the surveillance. Meanwhile, In-ji reaches her breaking point, informing Lee Seon that she’s leaving NM after her contract ends. While Lee Seon suspects her resignation stems from a desire to protect Jeong-won, In-ji remains tight-lipped, unwilling to expose the danger Tae-song poses.
The episode ends with chilling revelations: Jeong-won prepares for something drastic, practicing at a gun range with his father’s unregistered firearm, while In-ji contemplates the freezing river. In a flashforward, Officer Kim interrogates In-ji as a suspect in Tae-song’s murder. Forensics confirm Tae-song as the pharmacist’s killer, but Kim is determined to uncover who killed Tae-song. In-ji cryptically claims she was "in the water" and a flashback shows her firing a gun, leaving us with more questions than answers.
DramaZen's Opinion
Episode 7 was an absolute whirlwind, and I am living for the mix of drama, emotional gut-punches, and suspense! This episode gave us so much to unpack, from Do-ha’s messy return to Jeong-won and In-ji navigating their complicated feelings. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how vulnerable In-ji was this week? Her breakdown at the bus stop, crying not for Do-ha but for Jeong-won being there for her, had me in shambles. It’s so rare to see her let her guard down, and I was cheering for her the entire time.
And then there’s Tae-song. Can we talk about how terrifying he is? The way he flipped from trying to expose In-ji’s fake marriage to literally threatening to kill Jeong-won for her attention gave me chills. Jeong-won showing up to punch him out? Swoon-worthy. But let’s not forget the quiet moment after when Jeong-won watched Seo-yeon’s spycam footage of In-ji crying. The way his anger simmered—it’s clear Jeong-won is finally ready to stand up for her.
Seo-yeon, on the other hand, just keeps sinking lower. Her pettiness about why she even chose In-ji as Jeong-won’s fake wife is almost laughable, but her constant manipulation makes her so easy to hate. Watching In-ji clap back at her insecurities was chef’s kiss.
And don’t even get me started on that ending! The flashforward with In-ji firing a gun and her cryptic “I was in the water” line? I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about what’s next. Who really killed Tae-song? Is In-ji protecting Jeong-won? I need Episode 8, like, yesterday! This show is hitting all the right notes—angst, suspense, and just enough sweet moments to keep us rooting for Jeong-won and In-ji. Obsessed! 💕
