The Trunk- Episode 2
Episode 2 Recap: The Trunk
The second episode of The Trunk pulls us into a flashback five years ago, unraveling the heartbreak that shaped Noh In-ji’s guarded persona. Just ten days before her wedding, her fiancé Seo Do-ha becomes embroiled in a scandal when her mother exposes his bisexuality and affair with a man. Humiliated, Do-ha vanishes without explanation, leaving In-ji devastated. She clings to hope for seven days before canceling the wedding, and in a symbolic act of closure, she attempts to throw away her ring. Enter Lee Seon, future CEO of NM, who returns the ring and offers In-ji a job where marriage becomes her profession—and perhaps her weapon of revenge.
Fast-forward to the present: Jeong-won rushes In-ji to the hospital after her injury from protecting him. He berates her for risking her life for a stranger, but In-ji brushes it off, citing her "performance review" and cheekily asking for a burger. Their shared distaste for tomatoes sparks an unexpected moment of camaraderie. Jeong-won learns he’s her fifth fake husband but deflects when she probes into his hatred for the chandelier. That night, his troubled dreams resurface—memories of his father’s abuse shake him awake, mirroring the tremble of the chandelier above.
The next day, Jeong-won reveals the truth of his arrangement to Hyeon-cheol: if he stays with In-ji for a year, Seo-yeon has promised to take him back. Hyeon-cheol finds the setup absurd and questions whether In-ji is trustworthy. Meanwhile, In-ji rifles through Jeong-won’s belongings, uncovering a stockpile of pills, while a shadowy figure, Eom Tae-song, stalks her during a shopping trip. Though she assures a "keeper" that she’s in control, Tae-song’s ominous presence looms as he lingers outside her home.
Elsewhere, Seo-yeon visits her doctor, who advises her to reconsider her choice to forego precautions if she wants children—a suggestion she angrily rejects. At work, Yun-a speculates that Jeong-won and In-ji might be falling in love after hearing of In-ji’s heroic act. Seo-yeon isn’t jealous, but when Jeong-won texts her about missing her, followed by a message expressing guilt over In-ji’s injury, she’s visibly unsettled. Later, under a chandelier eerily similar to Jeong-won’s, she sleeps with her husband, Yun Ji-o.
Back at Jeong-won’s house, he joins In-ji for a casual night of soccer. She confesses that she initially joined NM out of revenge but has since become skilled at the job. Jeong-won reciprocates by opening up about his abusive father, who installed hidden cameras in the chandelier to spy on his wife. He feels comfortable sharing with In-ji, viewing her as a temporary presence bound to keep his secrets. Meanwhile, Seo-yeon is distracted by a phone call, learning Jeong-won has slept soundly for the first time in months—without pills. This revelation leaves her unsettled, even as she hides her emotions from Ji-o.
The next day, Jeong-won visits his comatose father. His pent-up resentment boils over as he wishes his father had died. In-ji, who follows him, watches uneasily when he picks up a pillow and locks the door, joking about ending Mr. Han’s life. Jeong-won brushes it off, but the tension lingers. Meanwhile, Seo-yeon grows increasingly irritated by Jeong-won’s newfound independence and avoids him when he tries to share his progress.
In-ji’s world grows more entangled when her best friend Si-jeong and nosy neighbor Do-dam crash at her place. Si-jeong appears desperate to find Tae-song, but her motives are unclear. After Si-jeong leaves, Do-dam makes a secretive call, informing someone of Tae-song’s release.
The flashforward adds another layer of intrigue. The cops discover a body with a chest wound near the river where the mysterious trunk was found. A shadowy figure, possibly Ji-o, watches from a distance. In interrogation, Si-jeong confirms the trunk belongs to In-ji but claims ignorance of her work.
Back in the present, Seo-yeon visits an elderly woman who knows of Jeong-won’s arrangement and calls her out for testing his loyalty. At the same event, Tae-song emerges as the lead organizer, sending Seo-yeon into a quiet spiral. Later, she visits Ji-o at fencing practice, watching him silently as he showers but denying him any intimacy. Her emotions seem fixated elsewhere, and soon she acts on her jealousy, heading to Jeong-won’s house.
At Jeong-won’s, Seo-yeon finds In-ji waiting and, in her frustration, lets slip some details of the arrangement. She retreats to the bathroom, recalling a harrowing moment from her past—a suicide attempt during her time with Jeong-won. Meanwhile, Jeong-won receives an ominous burner phone message questioning if he can trust In-ji.
The episode closes with a tense tea session between Seo-yeon and In-ji. In a stunning moment of clarity, In-ji reveals she knows Seo-yeon’s true identity as Jeong-won’s ex-wife—and an architect.
With tangled secrets, emotional confrontations, and a growing mystery surrounding the trunk, Episode 2 of The Trunkexpertly deepens the intrigue, leaving us on the edge of our seats.
DramaZen's Opinion
Geez, you guys, buckle up because The Trunk just hit the gas with Episode 2, and this K-drama is officially off the charts! We’re finally getting some answers, but the mystery is only getting deeper. Like, we knew something was fishy with Seo-yeon—she’s been all over the place covering for Jeong-won, and now her jealous streak toward In-ji is making SO much more sense.
Let’s be real: Seo-yeon is still totally into Jeong-won (even if she won’t admit it), but instead of working things out, she’s out here punishing him. Whatever happened during that mysterious incident has her tying him up in this whole twisted fake marriage plot while she’s shacking up with Ji-o and making up all these bizarre rules for him. What even is their deal?
And can we talk about Ji-o for a sec? Did we just spot him creeping near the site of the dead body by the river, right next to In-ji’s trunk? Like, is this just some clever misdirection, or is he about to dive headfirst into the fake marriage drama? Personally, I’m betting on him catching feelings for Seo-yeon and doing something crazy to get Jeong-won out of the way. But let’s not sleep on the possibility of Seo-yeon’s plan backfiring spectacularly. Imagine the chaos if Jeong-won actually starts falling for In-ji instead.
Whatever’s coming, I’m 100% here for the wild ride. Bring on the next episode because this drama has me HOOKED! 🚨👀
