Episode 21 Recap: Tang Yang Stays by Jiang Shiyan’s Side, and Sparks Fly in the Hospital Room

Jiang Shiyan found himself in the emergency room, and after a successful surgery, he was moved to a hospital room for recovery. His friends, Jiang Yanan and Feng Weiran, came by for a quick visit, while Tang Yang arrived with milk and toiletries, showing her meticulous care. She immediately began her checklist: asking how he felt, reminding him that he couldn’t eat until he’d passed gas, and listing off recovery instructions. But far from feeling nagged, Jiang Shiyan was soothed, watching Tang Yang busily tending to him with a mixture of care and concern.

With his mother briefly away, Tang Yang stayed at his side, thoughtfully placing his phone within reach and instructing him to call her once he was ready to eat. As she left that night, Tang Yang picked up ingredients to make soothing millet porridge, and by early morning, she was back, ready to serve him a nourishing breakfast. The moment he could finally eat, Tang Yang personally fed him, adding some small, comforting side dishes.

Tang Yang had planned to stay overnight with him, but Jiang Yanan interceded with a playful excuse, saying it’d be better for a man to look after another man overnight. While Tang Yang and Shiyan were close, she wasn’t sure an overnight stay was appropriate, so she reluctantly agreed to let Yanan take over.

At the bank, Tang Yang’s supervisor reminded her to adopt a flexible approach with reputable companies—a nudge directed at Qinglai Group, the subject of her latest investigation. However, Tang Yang had discovered troubling information: Qinglai hadn’t paid employees in months, and benefits were also delayed. Sensing more beneath the surface, she held firm, declining the loan and taking leave to stay with Shiyan.

The news thrilled Jiang Shiyan, who eagerly anticipated an evening alone with Tang Yang. But just as he was making plans, the doctor announced he was ready to be discharged. Startled, Jiang Shiyan protested, asking if he could stay just one more night. Amused, the doctor reminded him that appendicitis wasn’t a complex surgery. With a sigh, Shiyan texted Tang Yang, telling her the overnight stay wouldn’t be necessary after all.

But fate had other plans: that afternoon, Shiyan developed a mild fever, and the doctor recommended he stay for further observation. As the thermometer confirmed the fever, Shiyan lay there with a quiet smile, secretly pleased at the unexpected twist. Seeing his fever, Tang Yang’s concern deepened, and she resolved to stay by his side. All night, Shiyan would drift in and out of sleep, each time greeted by her warm, watchful gaze—a moment he cherished.

By morning, Shiyan’s fever had subsided, and he was feeling much better. Tang Yang fluffed his pillows and gently propped him up, bringing her close enough for him to catch the faint, familiar scent of her hair. The quiet, tender atmosphere between them was interrupted only when Shiyan’s mother arrived with breakfast, urging Tang Yang to rest and focus on work, since her son could now manage independently.

Resigned, Shiyan could only watch Tang Yang leave, equally reluctant to go herself. She kept in touch, especially during moments when Jiang Yanan confided in her. Despite Feng Weiran’s daily flower deliveries to apologize, Yanan couldn’t shake her growing discontent. Ever since he’d made a major decision without her, she felt increasingly distant, sensing a gap in their relationship that flowers alone couldn’t bridge.

Episode 22 Recap: Tang Yang’s Shocking Revelation and Jiang Shiyan’s Silent Realization

Zhou Mo’s patience with his pending project approval was wearing thin, and he couldn’t sit idle any longer. Hearing that Tang Yang was taking time off to care for Jiang Shiyan in the hospital, he decided to track her down himself, bringing work with him.

The moment Tang Yang spotted him, she knew why he was there. She brushed him off politely, explaining she was focused on caring for Jiang Shiyan and would handle work when she returned. But Zhou Mo was relentless, reminding her that he was her senior and would wait as long as it took. Sensing the tension, Jiang Shiyan encouraged Tang Yang to take a quick break to resolve work matters, assuring her he could manage on his own.

Over coffee, Zhou Mo pressed Tang Yang about loan approval for his project, hinting at a need for “flexibility.” Tang Yang, however, was unwavering—she wasn’t interested in bending rules or offering secret discounts. Her commitment to transparency was non-negotiable.

At this, Zhou Mo turned the conversation personal, reminding her of the grueling recruitment process at Huishang Bank, where only five out of sixty candidates were hired. He then dropped a bombshell—revealing that Huishang was initially only hiring men for her role and that he’d pulled strings through his uncle to secure her position. Shocked, Tang Yang realized that what she believed was her own merit was, in part, influenced by Zhou Mo’s interference.

Reeling from the news, Tang Yang returned to Jiang Shiyan’s hospital room, visibly distressed. Sensing her unease, he rushed to her side, enveloping her in a comforting embrace. He firmly assured her that she’d been offered positions at eleven banks, and Huishang had been her choice—not the other way around. His words calmed her, helping her regain her sense of worth.

As evening settled in, Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan found themselves sitting quietly together, enjoying the gentle breeze. In that moment, Tang Yang felt a sense of peace, wishing time could stand still. Unbeknownst to her, Shiyan was thinking the same, reminiscing about their school days when Tang Yang would help him study, longing for those carefree days. Yet, as he imagined their future together, he felt a pang of jealousy at the thought of Tang Yang marrying someone else. The realization hit him hard—if he married her, he’d never have to let her go.

Despite their newfound closeness, Shiyan had been patiently waiting for the perfect moment to kiss her, but interruptions kept getting in the way. Chuckling at his mild frustration, Tang Yang playfully reminded him to focus on resting, promising him that the right moment would come.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yanan and Feng Weiran were blissfully unaware of the budding romance in Shiyan’s life. Their own relationship, however, had recently taken a turn for the better. Feng Weiran, in a moment of reflection, had realized how many little sacrifices Jiang Yanan had made for him—putting up with spicy food and sugary coffee she didn’t even enjoy, just to suit his preferences. Feeling remorseful, Feng invited her to dinner, and together, they decided to rethink the balance in their relationship.

With both couples on the brink of new beginnings, it seemed the future held even more surprises and transformations.

Episode 23 Recap: New Beginnings, Hidden Romances, and Unwanted Third Wheels

Jiang Yanan and Feng Weiran decided to refresh their marriage by "dating" again, starting over as boyfriend and girlfriend. Feng Weiran found the change exhilarating, a chance to approach their relationship with renewed excitement and respect. However, Cheng Hui, noticing Feng’s frequent absences from home, assumed the worst and spread rumors of a marital rift. Feng dismissed the gossip, explaining that he was now committed to fully respecting Yanan and reconnecting on a deeper level.

Meanwhile, Gan Yiming called Tang Yang in for a tense discussion, questioning her delay in approving Qinglai Group’s loan. Tang Yang didn’t shy away—she admitted she was holding back, citing Qinglai’s troubling financials and unpaid employees. Her superior, Zhou Xing, also shared her concerns. Gan, left with no choice, verified with Director Zhou. Within days, their suspicions were confirmed: a Qinglai board member fled with company funds, and the police were called in.

Back at work, Jiang Shiyan, freshly recovered, was back in action. Tang Yang seized a lunch break to visit him, and after two days apart, their chemistry was undeniable. They slipped into Jiang Shiyan’s office, hoping for a quiet moment together, only to be interrupted by Cheng Hui’s endless coffee runs. Every time they were close to holding hands, Cheng Hui reappeared, effectively blocking any romantic moment.

Frustrated, Jiang Shiyan escorted Tang Yang downstairs, and they discussed the pros and cons of making their relationship public. Tang Yang, always thoughtful, suggested they carefully weigh the impact on their careers and personal lives. Later that day, back at the bank, Tang Yang received special commendation from the director for her handling of the Qinglai situation. By withholding the loan, they’d saved the bank from potential financial disaster.

That evening, she and Jiang Shiyan sat down to finally discuss their relationship status. After considering everything, they agreed it was best to keep it private, since they valued their relationship over public perception. Later, as the mood turned romantic, Shiyan leaned in to kiss Tang Yang, but just as they were lost in the moment, his mother unexpectedly returned home—despite him buying her a movie ticket! With quick thinking, Shiyan covered, saying Tang Yang was simply helping with company reports.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yanan had her own epiphany. Stopping by a makeup counter, she noticed the makeup artist’s skills were lacking and, with a few deft strokes, transformed the look into something striking. Customers admired her technique and even suggested she explore a career in makeup artistry or start live-streaming tutorials. Inspired, Yanan began considering makeup as a new career path—perhaps even more fitting than her original dream of design.

Tang Yang and Shiyan had planned a cozy weekend together at a hotel apartment, but a last-minute call from the bank required Tang Yang to attend a new employee training session. Disappointed but undeterred, Shiyan proposed tagging along to the training site after his workday, so they could still steal a few moments together.

As they were chatting, they spotted Cheng Hui’s car approaching. Thinking fast, Shiyan pulled Tang Yang down beside his car, both of them trying to stay out of sight. But fate had other plans—Cheng Hui spotted them anyway, striding over with his usual curiosity, asking what they were up to. Once again, the universe seemed determined to keep them on their toes, and any hope for secrecy was slipping away.

Episode 24 Recap: First Kisses, Thoughtful Gestures, and Hidden Surprises

Cheng Hui, in a rare moment of generosity, invited Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan to check out his apartment—a cozy two-bedroom unit where Feng Weiran had stayed briefly after a spat with his wife. Now that the couple was reconciled, one of the bedrooms was free, and Cheng Hui, unaware of Jiang Shiyan’s intentions to find a private space to spend time with Tang Yang, casually offered it as a rental. Jiang Shiyan politely declined, masking his true plans, and they all ended up in Cheng Hui’s living room.

Tang Yang’s gaze fell on an asteroid trajectory simulation on Cheng Hui’s computer. He explained that this small “star” was on a path away from Earth and would journey toward the sun, though it would take a mind-boggling ten thousand years. This realization struck Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan with a sense of perspective—life felt so fleeting, making every moment together even more precious. In that moment, they also saw a new depth in Cheng Hui; he wasn’t just a meddling friend but someone with a quiet fascination for the cosmos.

After leaving Cheng Hui’s place, an electric moment unfolded as Jiang Shiyan finally kissed Tang Yang. Having been best friends for over a decade, this first intimate connection was exhilarating for them both. Even after they parted ways for the night, they blushed at the memory, savoring the newfound spark in their relationship.

At work, Tang Yang noticed her colleagues buzzing about Jiang Yanan’s makeup tutorial, which had recently gained unexpected popularity. Thrilled for her friend’s success, Tang Yang shared in Yanan’s excitement. Meanwhile, Jiang Shiyan was often stopping by near Tang Yang’s office to meet her. Their relationship had taken on a new sweetness; they filled their days with "good mornings" and "good nights" and met as much as possible, never feeling it was enough.

One evening, after her shift, Tang Yang hurried over to keep Jiang Shiyan company at the office. Her mother, noticing Tang Yang’s makeup and wondering who she was meeting, was baffled to learn it was just Jiang Shiyan. She nagged Tang Yang to “meet other boys” or go see a movie instead. Tang Yang couldn’t help but smile—her mother still had no idea that she and Jiang Shiyan were now a couple.

Meanwhile, Cheng Hui had his own romantic adventure, inviting Sheng Nina out for a late-night snack. When her flight was delayed, she texted to say she might miss it, but Cheng Hui assured her he’d wait. Although not typically romantic, Cheng Hui ordered the restaurant’s signature dishes, even noting her mango allergy and thoughtfully substituting the dessert. The restaurant closed before she arrived, and he ate both meals himself, only to run into her outside afterward. They ended up grabbing street food together, and Sheng Nina, touched by his patience and consideration, felt a warmth she hadn’t felt in years.

Back with Tang Yang, Jiang Shiyan suggested they do something unexpected together—packing her suitcase. Tang Yang laughed, charmed by his choice; aside from her parents, no one had ever helped her pack before. As he organized her things with care, he handed her a small pen case as a parting gift.

Later, when Tang Yang opened the case, she found a fountain pen identical to the one she’d cherished in high school. Years ago, Feng Weiran had accidentally broken it, and she’d been heartbroken; the pen had been a gift from her grandmother, something she kept close as a reminder of her. Unknown to Tang Yang, Jiang Shiyan had gone to great lengths to find a collector and buy the exact same model, knowing how much it meant to her.

In this thoughtful gesture, Tang Yang saw just how deeply Jiang Shiyan understood her, creating a moment that would stay with her forever.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of You Are My Lover Friend (2024)

OMG! It finally happened—24 episodes in, and we get an uninterrupted, proper kiss! 🎉 And it was worth the wait!

One of my absolute favorite characters in this series has to be Cheng Hui. He’s the quiet, observant friend who always seems to know what’s really going on, even when he pretends to be clueless. The way he sneaks up on Shiyan and Tang Yang, acting like he has no idea they’re trying to get some alone time, is just hilarious. He’s a low-key wingman and comic relief all rolled into one!

Then there was Shiyan’s “proposal” that turned out to be...appendicitis. A blessing in disguise! Yang stepped up to care for him, showing just how deep her love and loyalty run beyond friendship. The two of them giggling over his post-surgery gas was adorable and so relatable—like couples who can laugh together even in awkward moments are built to last. 🥰 It gave me flashbacks to my own husband’s surgery recovery, and it’s so true: couples who can make light of tough situations are stronger for it.

I’m also thrilled that Yanan has found a new passion to help rediscover herself. It’s so common for stay-at-home moms to lose a sense of identity, leading to burnout or even depression. Having her husband support her journey back to happiness is such a sweet and realistic touch. Finding something that gives her purpose beyond motherhood was exactly what she needed!

And then we have Cheng Hui and Sheng Nina—navigating their relationship in their own quiet, unspoken way. They’re not rushing anything, just letting things develop naturally with late-night snacks and thoughtful gestures. It’s subtle but feels so real and genuine.

This show keeps getting better, and I can’t wait to see where these love stories go next! 💕
