Episode 29 Recap: Secret Feelings, Shocking Discoveries, and a Trail of Suspicion

Sheng Nina, grateful for Cheng Hui’s help fixing her telescope, invited him along with Feng Weiran and Jiang Shiyan for a steak dinner. Unfortunately, the local steakhouse was closed. Determined to make the evening memorable, Cheng Hui arranged a private dinner at the elegant Yoyuan Residence, even hiring a Western chef just for the occasion. When Feng Weiran joked that Cheng Hui would probably order “filet mignon” since it was his online alias, Sheng Nina had a sudden realization—Cheng Hui had been the one to help her uncover the evidence needed to resolve her hacking incident.

Later, when they were alone, Sheng Nina confronted Cheng Hui, asking why he had quietly done so much for her. Looking into her eyes, Cheng Hui asked if she was ready to hear the answer. In that moment, she understood his feelings but didn’t reveal her own, leaving their future uncertain. Afterward, Cheng Hui lingered outside with a beer, gazing up at the stars, his feelings unresolved. Jiang Shiyan joined him, and Cheng spoke wistfully about how some stars, while visible to each other, would always remain apart—forever parallel. Shiyan, ever the optimist, encouraged him, saying that stars could indeed change each other’s paths if they were drawn together by the right force.

Meanwhile, Tang Yang, digging deeper into Xu Shanshan’s mysterious past, learned from HR that Shanshan had joined the bank in 2019 and left abruptly after two years. The sudden transfer notice had come from upper management, and no one knew what happened to her afterward. Tang Yang sensed there was more to uncover.

At the same time, Zhou Mo was under pressure from his superiors to secure financing for Jiang Shiyan’s company. Feeling conflicted, he wandered into a nearby restaurant that reminded him of Xu Shanshan, his college junior. Memories flooded back—her treating him to a “grand dinner” with her first paycheck, proudly promising to work harder to earn more. Just as he was lost in thought, his leader called, and upon his return, Zhou Mo hinted at forging a deal with Yi Xiu. His ambitious suggestion won him his superior’s admiration, though her gaze was troubled as she revealed that Tang Yang’s investigation might expose their past schemes.

Alarmed, Zhou Mo suggested bribing Tang Yang to drop her investigation, but the female leader dismissed the idea, remarking that she would have to “scare” Tang Yang instead. Zhou Mo, feeling a chill at her cold tone, nervously asked, “It won’t go too far, will it?” She assured him it was just intimidation, adding that Xu Shanshan’s case had been an exception. She ordered Zhou Mo to arrange a meeting with Tang Yang to gauge her loyalty and distract her investigation.

Playing both sides, Zhou Mo met Tang Yang early to discreetly pass along valuable information. He advised her to pay close attention to the final destinations of the loans, noting that the real instigator was whoever ultimately benefited. He even hinted at three specific people: Yuan Chi, Sun Zhenxi, and Liao Shuang. Tang Yang was stunned—these three former bank employees had all resigned after approving suspicious loans alongside Xu Shanshan.

Tang Yang discovered that large sums of money had flowed into virtual company accounts linked to these names before vanishing without a trace. With no clear way to recover the funds, she was now left facing the disturbing reality of a well-hidden embezzlement ring within the bank. As the pieces started to fall into place, Tang Yang realized her investigation had only just begun.

Episode 30 Recap: Courage, Justice, and A Love Fulfilled

Driven by recent discoveries, Tang Yang filed a whistleblower report under her real name, detailing the corruption she’d uncovered. She felt nervous, but with Jiang Shiyan by her side, supporting her decision to do what was right, she found the courage to send the letter. Soon, the police acted on the leads provided and apprehended those involved.

To Tang Yang’s shock, she learned that Zhou Mo had kidnapped the corrupt leader Wei Changqiu, locking her in a cold storage facility. It was a startling act from someone known for his composed demeanor. When the police located Zhou Mo, he was waiting at a cemetery, surrounded by memories of his lost love, Xu Shanshan.

There, Zhou Mo opened up to Tang Yang, explaining how Xu Shanshan, like her, had worked at the same bank and shared the same birthday. But Shanshan hadn’t been as fortunate; when she uncovered irregularities in the loans, Wei Changqiu retaliated cruelly, tarnishing her reputation and threatening her into silence. Shanshan, overwhelmed, had taken her own life. The last, unsent message on her phone had been to Zhou Mo, a thought that haunted him daily. Determined to expose the truth, Zhou Mo had traced the former bank employees involved—Yuan Chi, Sun Zhenxi, and Liao Shuang—and discovered their roles in the scheme, leading to Wei Changqiu, Gan Yiming, and others finally facing legal consequences.

With justice served, Tang Yang returned to work, resilient and hopeful. Six months later, both she and Jiang Shiyan had flourished in their careers. They spent their free time cooking together, savoring the life they were building. Their mothers, overjoyed, began preparing for the wedding by shopping for bedding and house items. Shiyan’s mother even insisted they buy a new home, offering her life savings to help them.

Meanwhile, Cheng Hui’s connection with Sheng Nina had blossomed quietly. One evening, as they stargazed together, they noticed their symbolic stars had shifted closer, their paths no longer parallel. Holding hands, they felt deeply connected, knowing their separate journeys had brought them together.

With wedding plans in motion, Feng Weiran remembered a sea-view apartment he had reserved, offering it to Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan at a fair price. It was perfect for them. Both families eagerly prepared for the wedding, and soon the date was set. Though Tang Yang and Shiyan preferred simplicity, they chose a mountaintop venue surrounded by snow—a place they had visited at eighteen, where they’d once vowed to return together.

Their wedding was a dream come true, and as they exchanged vows amidst breathtaking scenery, they shared the video with their families, who clapped joyfully from afar. They had journeyed through life’s first half together, and now they looked forward to facing its second half, hand in hand.

Jiang Shiyan’s journey from a difficult childhood to a life filled with love and purpose was a testament to resilience and kindness. Despite a painful past, he had found happiness in the arms of the one who had always seen the best in him. And just as Shiyan found his joy, we’re reminded that, even in the ordinary, each of us may be experiencing a quiet blessing, something beautiful that’s just waiting to be noticed.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of You Are My Lover Friend (2024)

I’m so glad the villains finally got their comeuppance—it was satisfying to see justice served. But it’s heartbreaking that Shanshan had to suffer so much. 😢 I didn’t think much of Zhou Mo at first, but now I see where he was coming from, and it’s just a tragic situation all around.

On a lighter note, watching the moms go full throttle with wedding planning was hilarious! They really took over, dragging Shiyan and Yang through house tours and endless details. Their enthusiasm was exactly what the couple needed to take the plunge.

The wedding was such a refreshing twist on the usual drama finale. Choosing that meaningful mountaintop spot made it unique and heartfelt, giving the whole ceremony a personal touch. And that little dance in the sleeping bags at the end? Adorable!

Everyone got their happy ending. Cheng Rui and Sheng Nina shared a quiet moment under the stars, hinting at the start of something special. Feng Weiran became the ultimate supportive husband, cheering on his wife’s beauty blog venture—and then finding out they’re expecting their second child! And Shiyan and Yang? They finally made it official, blending friendship and romance seamlessly as they start their new life as husband and wife.

Overall, this series was a solid 8/10 for me. Despite all the episodes, the writers managed to keep it fresh, so I never felt bored.

P.S. We also get a little epilogue at the end that shows why Shiyan decided to be sworn brothers with Yang!
