When The Stars Gossip- Episodes 3-4
The Space Walk
The stakes are higher than ever in Episode 3 of When the Stars Gossip, as the drama onboard the space station escalates into life-or-death territory. Packed with suspense, clever schemes, and unexpected twists, this episode delivers heart-pounding moments alongside laugh-out-loud banter. Let’s dive into the highlights.
The episode begins with the crew gathered for a meal, but Ryong isolates himself in his room, staring at a photo of Go-eun. However, his thoughts are clearly preoccupied with someone else: Commander Eve. Right on cue, Eve appears and encourages him to join the group, her easygoing demeanor catching Ryong off guard.
The crew’s camaraderie shines during the lottery draw, a moment of levity amid the tension. However, Kang-su seizes the opportunity to sneak away and continue his secret insemination mission for Chairman Choi. Back on Earth, Go-eun confronts her father, pleading with him to reconsider his manipulative plans and let Ryong focus on his duties. Jae-ryong, as stubborn as ever, brushes her off, more invested in the lottery results and his unethical experiment.
Kang-su makes progress with his insemination project, reporting to Jae-ryong that he’s completed 7 out of 10 samples. However, Ryong stumbles upon Kang-su mid-mission and interrupts him. Though still a newbie in space, Ryong is shocked to learn that Kang-su and Eve are scheduled for a dangerous spacewalk to repair a solar panel. Eve, ever the professional, explains the high risks involved and even writes a will at Ryong’s request, just in case.
Kang-su, meanwhile, remains as infuriating as ever. He brushes off a furious call from Go-eun about the egg mission, distracted by her beauty and calling her “pretty” instead of addressing her concerns. It’s clear he’s still not over her, setting the stage for more tension between him and Ryong.
Amid the drama, the crew receives a surprising distraction: Mina Lee discovers a winning lottery ticket worth 500 billion won. Her excitement prompts a humorous montage of what she’d do with the money, adding a brief but welcome moment of lightheartedness.
Ryong, however, is focused on a different kind of jackpot. Determined to take control of the cryogenic eggs Kang-su is smuggling, he hatches a risky plan. By overloading the power system using a treadmill, he intends to trip the fire alarm, deactivate the cryogenic freezer, and retrieve the eggs while Kang-su and Eve are outside on their spacewalk.
As Eve and Kang-su head out for the station’s 141st spacewalk, Ryong sets his plan into motion. The power goes out as planned, allowing him to access the samples. He hides the eggs inside a bouquet of flowers, where he also discovers Mina’s stashed lottery ticket. His actions narrowly escape detection as the power comes back on just in time for the crew’s return.
Meanwhile, the spacewalk takes a dangerous turn. Kang-su’s suit malfunctions, forcing him to return to the airlock early. Eve, however, faces an even more perilous situation. While repairing the solar panel, she loses her footing and becomes entangled in its structure. The scene grows increasingly tense as Eve struggles to free herself, spinning wildly and desperately grabbing for stability.
In a devastating moment, her glove is punctured, causing a loss of pressure. With oxygen depleting rapidly, Eve’s situation becomes critical. Seung-jun begs to go out and save her, but there’s little time left as Eve begins to lose consciousness, drifting helplessly in space.
Alcohol & Lottery Tickets
Episode 4 of When the Stars Gossip delivers an emotional rollercoaster, blending life-or-death drama with personal revelations and simmering romance. As tensions rise both in orbit and on Earth, the characters are pushed to their limits. Here’s everything that went down in this high-stakes episode.
The episode opens with Commander Eve in peril outside the space station. As she struggles to untether herself from the solar panel, we’re given a glimpse into her past. Raised by an adoptive father who was also an astronaut, Eve’s values were shaped by his heroism and a poignant final note about the miraculous nature of life. Tragically, he died during a spacewalk while trying to save a colleague—a shadow that looms over Eve as she faces a similar crisis.
Inside the station, Ryong reads Eve’s "will," a list of tasks she’s left him in case she doesn’t return. Despite her instructions to stay put, Ryong is overcome with worry as he watches her struggle through the window. Unable to sit idly by, he dons a suit and heads out to save her, skipping the decompression process and putting his own life at risk.
As Eve guides him to untether her, the rescue is successful, but Ryong’s oxygen levels plummet, and he passes out. Both astronauts are brought back into the station, where they’re pumped with oxygen to stabilize their condition.
While Ryong fights for survival in space, Chairman Choi Jae-ryong receives updates on his secret insemination mission. Kang-su informs him that several eggs have been successfully fertilized, leaving Jae-ryong optimistic about continuing his bloodline. However, Na Min-jeong—whose eggs are part of the experiment—confronts the Chairman.
In a powerful exchange, Min-jeong accuses Jae-ryong of manipulating Dong-hun, forcing him into a job he hated, which ultimately led to his death. She vows to leave once the child is born, refusing to let the Chairman control another generation. Jae-ryong retaliates by plotting her dismissal, but his plans are interrupted when Go-eun publicly announces her engagement to Ryong.
The news creates a stir among both families. While Ryong’s aunts celebrate, Jae-ryong and Kang-su are left fuming. The engagement adds another layer of complexity to Ryong’s already chaotic life.
Back on the station, Eve regains consciousness and immediately chastises Ryong for his reckless actions. Although he saved her life, she points out that he endangered himself and disobeyed direct instructions. Her frustration is rooted not only in his disobedience but also in the growing chemistry between them—a connection she’s determined to suppress. She tells Ryong to stay away, leaving him heartbroken and questioning his actions.
Ryong’s troubles don’t end there. Mission Control reprimands him for breaking protocol, with the IOU planning to take disciplinary action upon his return to Earth. Kang-su seizes the opportunity to mock Ryong, bragging about his success with the fertilized eggs.
Feeling dejected, Ryong isolates himself on the opposite side of the station, where Santiago offers him a much-needed pick-me-up: alcohol cleverly hidden inside a book. Despite Ryong’s mistakes, Santiago and Seung-jun reaffirm their loyalty, reminding him that “the pack has got his back.” This moment of camaraderie injects some warmth into an otherwise tense episode.
Meanwhile, Mina grapples with what to do about the winning lottery ticket. The ticket’s lyric—“Stand with me”—is a clue that it belongs to Kang-su, but Ryong smirks and suggests she keep it instead, setting the stage for more drama.
In a bold (and alcohol-fueled) move, Ryong visits Eve in her bunk. Frustrated and vulnerable, he demands to know why she can’t appreciate what he’s done for her. Ignoring her questions about his drinking, Ryong reveals his true feelings: he likes her. This unexpected confession leaves Eve stunned, her emotions clearly conflicted as the episode ends on a tantalizing note.
DramaZen's Opinion
Okay, I can’t even deal—Episodes 3 and 4 of When the Stars Gossip had me on the edge of my seat and then totally wrecked my emotions! This drama is really out here blending space survival with messy love triangles, and I am living for it.
First, the spacewalk in Episode 3? Absolutely terrifying. Watching Eve nearly lose her life while Ryong risked everything to save her was so intense. And then in Episode 4, when we learn more about Eve’s backstory and how her adoptive father died on a spacewalk… it all just hit so much harder. Ryong might’ve been reckless, but honestly, how can you not love him for putting his life on the line for her?
The drama back on Earth is just as juicy. Go-eun’s big public engagement announcement had me screaming. Ryong doesn’t even know about it yet, and the fallout is going to be so messy. Plus, Chairman Choi is such a villain—I love to hate him. The whole insemination subplot is wild, and the way Min-jeong called him out for ruining Dong-hun’s life was so satisfying.
Also, can we talk about how Ryong is such a relatable disaster? From smuggling alcohol with Santi to drunkenly confessing his feelings to Eve, this man is a hot mess, and I’m here for every second of it. Eve pushing him away hurt, but you can tell she’s just as confused about her feelings. The tension between them is unreal, and I’m fully invested in where this goes.
These episodes had everything—life-or-death moments, emotional backstories, petty rivalries, and unexpected confessions. When the Stars Gossip is somehow chaotic, heartbreaking, and hilarious all at once, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. 10/10, this show owns me. 🌌🚀
