Alcohol & Secrets

Episode 5 of When the Stars Gossip delivers a rollercoaster of emotions, mixing comedy, heartbreak, and scandal in a way only this drama can. From drunken confessions to high-stakes secrets unraveling, the drama onboard the space station (and back on Earth) reaches new heights. Let’s break it all down!

The episode kicks off with Ryong waking up after his regrettable, alcohol-fueled confession to Eve. As expected, he’s mortified, but we get a hilarious reimagining of the space rescue mission—this time from Ryong’s slightly exaggerated (and hungover) perspective. The humor feels jarring compared to the life-threatening drama we saw earlier, but it adds a fresh spin to the tension brewing between them.

Ryong’s late-night confession wasn’t just drunken rambling; it turns out he genuinely wanted to be honest while still in space, knowing things might change once they’re back on Earth. When he tries to continue the conversation the next morning, Eve firmly shuts him down, calling his feelings “inappropriate” and threatening to report him to the IOU. Ouch.

However, Ryong isn’t backing down easily. He shocks Eve by revealing his plans to cut ties with MZ Group and promises to give her a year to reconsider. Eve, clearly uncomfortable, pushes him away—both physically and emotionally—dismissing his feelings by calling him “unattractive.” But we all know she’s just as conflicted as he is.

Meanwhile, the alcohol smuggling issue isn't going away, and Eve is determined to find out how booze made it onboard in the first place.

Elsewhere on the station, Mina is still grappling with what to do about the winning lottery ticket. She’s unsure whether she can trust Ryong to keep her secret, but she’s not exactly quiet about it—loud enough, in fact, that Seung-jun overhears. Cue another hilarious montage of Seung-jun fantasizing about how he’d spend the money. His sudden enthusiasm leads him on a treasure hunt for the ticket, only to stumble upon Mina just as she’s about to spill the truth to Kang-su.

The tension escalates as Kang-su continues his mission of fertilizing the eggs, with updates reaching Chairman Choi on Earth. He takes the opportunity to rub his success in Na Min-jeong’s face, boasting about the great job Kang-su is doing. But Min-jeong isn’t backing down—she boldly announces her intention to leave once the child is born, refusing to let the Chairman control another generation.

Meanwhile, Go-eun’s growing frustration with her father reaches a boiling point. After Ryong abruptly calls off their engagement, she confronts Jae-ryong about his manipulative plans. Her anger is justified, but Jae-ryong, ever the schemer, remains unfazed, gloating over his victory in securing his heir.

Back in space, Ryong devises a plan to save the fertilized eggs and enlists Mina’s help, offering to keep quiet about her lottery ticket in exchange. This newfound alliance adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing drama.

But things take an unexpected turn when Eve makes a late-night call to her boyfriend, Park Dong-a, only to discover him in bed with his colleague, Tae-hui. In a devastating moment, she not only sees them together but overhears Dong-a’s dismissive remark: "Eve doesn't know much about men." Ouch.

Heartbroken and furious, Eve vents to Ryong, making a sweeping statement about how awful men are. Ryong, thinking it's directed at him, tries to lighten the mood with some banter, but the tension between them is palpable. Eve deflects the conversation and focuses on finding the alcohol, channeling her frustration into something she can control.

Determined to get to the bottom of things, Eve intensifies her search and, to Santi’s dismay, finds Kang-su instead. She catches him red-handed sending pictures of the fertilized eggs to Chairman Choi. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Eve demands that he open the incubator, her no-nonsense attitude in full force.

This cliffhanger leaves us wondering—will Eve expose Kang-su's secret mission? How will Ryong handle the fallout of his confession? And can Go-eun finally stand up to her father for good?

Egg Fried Mice

Episode 6 of When the Stars Gossip delivers another thrilling mix of tension, romance, and unexpected twists as the drama surrounding the fertilized eggs reaches a boiling point. With secrets unraveling and relationships being tested, the episode keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Let’s dive into the latest developments!

The episode opens with Chairman Choi Jae-ryong receiving the long-awaited confirmation—his late son’s sperm has successfully fertilized the eggs. Go-eun, though reluctant, offers her congratulations, only to have her father spring an unwelcome surprise on her: he wants her to marry Kang-su. Just when she thought things couldn’t get more complicated, Jae-ryong's ambitions continue to spiral out of control.

But trouble is brewing in space, where the astronauts discover Kang-su’s unauthorized experiment. When confronted, Kang-su attempts to shift the blame, claiming he used Santi’s sperm instead of the Chairman’s. Eve isn’t buying it, and in a bold move, she announces that the eggs will be destroyed immediately and the incident reported to Mission Control.

Despite Ryong’s desperate pleas to preserve them, Eve stands firm, citing the ethical violations and the dangerous environment of space. In a gut-wrenching moment, the fertilized eggs are destroyed, leaving Ryong devastated. His anger boils over as he accuses Eve of murder, deepening the growing rift between them. Meanwhile, Kang-su faces disciplinary action, but not before smugly reminding Ryong of his failure.

Back on Earth, the destruction of the eggs sends shockwaves through Jae-ryong’s camp. He’s furious but soon realizes that Ryong may still hold the key to his plans—unbeknownst to Eve, Ryong secretly stashed away three egg samples earlier in the mission. The problem? Eve’s strict surveillance measures make accessing the microscope nearly impossible.

The stress of the situation proves too much for Jae-ryong, who collapses. After regaining consciousness, he refuses to back down and insists Go-eun and Min-jeong support Ryong’s efforts, setting the stage for another daring space scheme.

Meanwhile, on the space station, the lottery subplot takes an amusing turn as Seung-jun proposes splitting the winnings three ways with Mina and Santi. While they haggle over the details, Ryong is focused on a much riskier gamble—attempting to fertilize the eggs without the proper equipment.

With Santi, Seung-jun, and Mina by his side, Ryong hatches a bold plan. In exchange for his silence about the lottery ticket, the trio agrees to hold him steady in zero gravity while he attempts the procedure inside a spacesuit. The tension is palpable as the first two attempts fail, and the group’s nerves are tested.

Things take a nerve-wracking turn when Eve enters the room mid-operation, searching for the contraband alcohol they’ve been hiding. Ryong is forced to freeze inside the suit while Seung-jun quickly covers for them, concocting a story about sneaking drinks. Eve buys the excuse, barely averting disaster.

Just when it seems all hope is lost, Mina saves the day by retrieving the floating needle Ryong needs to complete the delicate procedure. Against all odds, the mission is a success, and the group shares a triumphant moment—proving that teamwork (and a little luck) can go a long way in space.

As the dust settles, Ryong’s sense of accomplishment is short-lived, but there’s another victory to celebrate. Eve calls him over to observe the mice they’ve been studying, who have finally begun to court. The scene is bathed in a soft purple glow, and for a brief moment, the tension between Eve and Ryong softens. They exchange a lingering look, the chemistry between them undeniable.

Despite their differences and recent conflicts, there’s an unspoken connection growing between them—one that neither can ignore.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of When the Stars Gossip (2024)

Wow, When the Stars Gossip just keeps getting better! Episodes 5 and 6 had me hooked with their perfect mix of comedy, romance, and high-stakes drama. This show is seriously an emotional rollercoaster, and I am here for it.

First off, Ryong’s drunken confession to Eve in Episode 5 was both hilarious and heartbreaking. Seeing him wake up and try to deal with the awkward aftermath was so relatable, and I couldn’t help but cringe (and laugh) at how bad he is at handling his feelings. Eve shutting him down so coldly hurt, but let’s be honest—we can all see the tension between them building, and it’s getting harder for her to ignore it.

I can't help, but boil in rage at Park Dong-a and Tae-hui! How ridiculous are they in their secretive affair? I can't believe the remark that Dong-a made about Eve. What a complete JERK!!!!

Meanwhile, the whole lottery ticket drama has become its own chaotic mess, and I love how it adds a lighter touch to all the serious space issues. Mina, Seung-jun, and Santi plotting over the winnings while Ryong is secretly plotting to fertilize the eggs? Absolute gold.

Episode 6, though, had me stressed. The whole situation with the eggs getting destroyed by Eve was intense, and Ryong calling her a murderer? Oof. That hit hard. But of course, Ryong being Ryong, he’s got a backup plan, and watching him and the crew attempt the impossible without getting caught was pure suspense. The tension when Eve almost found them? I was holding my breath.

And can we talk about that final scene with Eve and Ryong watching the mice? The purple lighting, the silent stares, the simmering tension—I am screaming. Their chemistry is unreal, and I can’t wait to see where this goes.

Overall, these episodes had everything—romantic tension, suspense, and just enough humor to keep things fun. If this show keeps up the pace, I might just start believing in love in zero gravity. 🚀💜
