Forgotten Names, Faked Amnesia, and a Deadly Dessert

Hey Buried Hearts fam! 🍪💔 Just when we thought this show had already hit peak intensity, Episode 7 arrives to say, “Hold my cinnamon cookie.” We got revenge plots, hidden identities, old enemies, and one brutal final twist that left us GASPING. Let’s get into it!

🕊️ Sister Agnes’ Farewell... and a Sinister Presence

We open on Sister Agnes’ funeral, and the grief is heavy. But so is the tension—because guess who shows up to “pay respects”?

👉 Yeom Jang-seon. (Ugh, the audacity! 🙄)

He tells Dong-ju that the truck driver who killed Sister Agnes is being arrested… but we quickly learn that the driver is none other than Yang-chun, one of the Administrator’s goons—aka the guy who tortured Dong-ju.

And then comes the twist: a woman at the funeral greets Dong-ju. He doesn’t recognize her, but we find out she’s Madame Pi—the woman who raised both Dong-ju and Sister Agnes. (My emotional state? Shattered.)

🧑‍🏫 Flashbacks & Forgotten History

We get two flashbacks that hit like punches:

1️⃣ A schoolyard fight where young Dong-ju stands up to bullies (including young Hui-cheol), only to be framed and punished. Hui-cheol’s dad paid off students to lie, and Jang-seon was there too, watching it all go down.

2️⃣ Eight years ago, Jang-seon sees Dong-ju working for Daesan Energy and vows to destroy him for “messing with the books.” (This vendetta runs DEEP.)

Back in the present, Madame Pi breaks down, and Dong-ju takes her aside. But Gu-ho is lurking, and we KNOW something shady’s coming.

🔥 Revenge, Served Tied Up in a Van

Meanwhile, Il-nam pulls a full Mission: Impossible, sneaking into the hospital in disguise. He gets Yang-chun out of there… straight to Dong-ju’s fists.

Dong-ju lets out all his pent-up rage (finally!) and eventually Yang-chun ends up tied in the back of a van. Dong-ju bikes back to church just in time for mass, and Jang-seon is left confused and suspicious.

Mission: Don’t Get Caught = Success. 😎

🕳️ Secret Meetings & Political Puppeteering

Jang-seon meets with none other than… Assemblyman Nam Sang-cheol (remember him from Episode 1?!).

Nam says “The Elder” wants control of the fund (ummm who is this mysterious puppet master?!), but before we can process, Dong-ju casually emerges from a manhole and eavesdrops on everything.

This man is EVERYWHERE and I love it.

💼 A Safe Full of Secrets

Dong-ju ignores Eun-nam’s calls (ouch) and starts quietly playing mind games. He restocks Chairman Cha’s secret soju stash, and just as he’s doing it, the chairman walks in with Secretary Gong.

The chairman brings up an old memory about a boy named Seong-hyeon—a name that clearly rattles Gong, who pretends she doesn’t remember. (Girl, we see you.)

Later, Il-do and Dong-ju both end up in the office. Dong-ju pretends he only remembers the safe code, but Il-do notices something fishy—Dong-ju hides a soju bottle when Guk-hui walks in. Suspicion = activated.

💰 The Exchange... and the Message

Yuseong Chemical pulls out of the deal, and everyone’s panicking. Il-do reveals that Jang-seon wants them to sell Daesan Energy (the audacity of this man), and Chairman Cha realizes he may need to pay up to stop the chaos.

Dong-ju conveniently remembers that Cha used to hide codes in his pen stand. A flashback shows he found it empty earlier and sneakily planted a new paper with the code.

He takes cash and gold to Jang-seon as a peace offering—but also leaves Yang-chun’s ring behind as a warning. (Iconic.)

Jang-seon and Gu-ho confront him, and in a tense moment, Dong-ju grabs Gu-ho’s gun and turns it on himself. 😱

He threatens to end it all unless they back off. Jang-seon, shaken, says it’s all a “misunderstanding.”

Dong-ju leaves… and finally breaks down over Sister Agnes’ death. 💔

🥡 A Bitter Dinner and a Dangerous Dessert

Later, Hui-cheol and Eun-nam arrive at the Cha household with food from her in-laws. Eun-nam sneaks off to see Dong-ju, who is distant and cold. He tells her, “Nothing good ever happens when we’re together.”

💔 OUCH.

But as he walks away, Eun-nam hugs him from behind. (Cue the tears.)

Then the family gathers for dinner—but Eun-nam stays away, saying she’ll join for dessert.

The desserts arrive… and Secretary Gong casually mentions that the honey cookies have cinnamon in them.

🚨 REMINDER: DONG-JU IS DEATHLY ALLERGIC TO CINNAMON. 🚨

It’s clearly a test from Jang-seon to see if Dong-ju really lost his memory.

And in the most jaw-dropping moment

😱 Dong-ju EATS THE COOKIE ANYWAY.

He walks toward his room… and then starts choking.

He collapses, and the family scrambles. Eun-nam holds him in her arms, but…

💔 He goes completely unresponsive. 💔

And just like that, Buried Hearts Episode 7 ends with Dong-ju on the brink of death—again.

Cinnamon, Confessions, and an Attempted Murder (Again!)

Hello Buried Hearts crew! 🍯💉 We’re back with another mind-blowing, heart-wrenching, plot-twisting recap because Episode 8 of Buried Hearts truly said: “Let’s make sure no one sleeps tonight.” From poisoned cookies to mysterious packages, shady political deals, and another attempt on Dong-ju’s life (because of course), this episode gave us everything. Let’s dive in!

☠️ The Aftermath of the Cinnamon Conspiracy

We open on a dark note: Jang-seon tells Gu-ho to prep enough cinnamon to kill a man. (Yes, this villain is out here weaponizing spices.) He even tells Il-do to finish the job if the cookies don’t work.

And guess what? Dong-ju eats the cinnamon cookies. Collapses. Gets rushed to the hospital.

Everyone’s freaking out. Hui-cheol reports the emergency. Il-do updates Jang-seon, who—oh, casual bombshell—says he knows Dong-ju’s real name is Chu Seong-hyeon. (The secrets are spilling, people.)

We get a quick flashback of a very tense moment where Dong-ju brings Jang-seon a letter from Chairman Cha, telling him that Dong-ju stays and also? He knows about Il-do embezzling money. (Yikes.) When exactly this happened is murky, but one thing’s clear: there’s a long game at play.

👀 Dong-ju Lives, and Receives a Surprise

Despite everyone’s expectations (especially Il-do’s), Dong-ju survives. Because our man is invincible, apparently. 🙌

Meanwhile, Madame Pi and Il-nam (Won-bae) arrive with gifts for Eun-nam:

🎁 Dong-ju’s old phone
🎁 A mystery package

At home, Eun-nam opens the package to find:

  1. 💔 A video of Dong-ju playing violin on the boat
  2. 💕 Her fixed bracelet

Cue the flashback: Dong-ju and Eun-nam go on a jog, he sees her scar, and suggests they get matching tattoos to help her stop hiding it. If your heart didn’t melt, are you even watching this show?!

💼 Backstabbing, Promotions, and Political Chess

Elsewhere, Cha Guk-hui is summoned by prosecutors over some shady lobbying stuff. Chairman Cha calls Jang-seon, who denies involvement (liar liar, cinnamon on fire).

But Jang-seon’s focus shifts: he’s giving up on Dong-ju’s two trillion won brain and decides to take over Daesan itself.👀

Meanwhile at Daesan, surprise! Chairman Cha promotes Choi Gi-hyeon to Vice Chairman. Il-do is not pleased.

Cha tells Il-do to “go after Jang-seon directly” and “make himself useful.” So naturally, Il-do runs to Gi-hyeon and spills the tea on the chairman’s declining mental health. Smooth.

💔 Divorce, Discoveries, and Confrontations

Eun-nam tells Hui-cheol she wants a divorce (bless her), even if it means returning the Daesan shares. She’s done.

She investigates Sister Agnes’ death, finds CCTV footage... and BOOM—Gu-ho is there. 👀

Then she replays the violin video and sees a boat in the background. ZOOM... It’s Il-do.

And right on cue, Il-do walks into the room like the villain in a thriller. He warns her about penalties if she breaks the prenup and tells her to get back to her in-laws. (Ugh.)

Meanwhile, Jang-seon meets The Elder, plotting to install Il-do as the new Daesan puppet.

But Eun-nam has her own power move: she sends the screenshots of Il-do and Gu-ho from the videos straight to Jang-seon.

💅 ICONIC.

🔐 Secrets, Codes & Another Flashback Bombshell

At Daesan, Guk-hui tries (and fails) to open the inner safe. Il-do catches her and learns she stole the codes ages ago. He agrees to keep quiet, but afterward he compares her paper to his... and realizes:

Dong-ju must have changed the safe code.

A flashback shows Jang-seon giving Il-do a lethal injection in the past (?!), and Il-do now knows Dong-ju fooled them both. Things are unraveling fast.

🎭 Setups, Betrayals, and a Familiar Face

Jang-seon reactivates the Administrator, promising to support the family of the man Dong-ju took out (Yang-chun) in exchange for another hit.

Meanwhile, he sends Gu-ho to set up a dinner for Eun-nam and Hui-cheol. In a past flashback, we learn Eun-nam tried to trade incriminating photos in exchange for her divorce. (Girl is fighting on every front.)

As she heads to the dinner, someone is following her.

At the hospital, Won-bae leaves, and a new nurse takes over watching Dong-ju. Except…

She falls asleep.

And who strolls in?

🚨 The Administrator. With a syringe. 🚨

He starts to inject Dong-ju’s IV...

BUT WAIT—

💥 Dong-ju wakes up, tackles him to the ground!

AND THEN—

💥💥 Il-do is watching it all unfold from outside the hospital room.

😱😱😱

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Buried Hearts (2025)

Chaos, Cookies, and Comebacks! 🔥

Episodes 7 and 8 were absolute madness in the best way possible. Between Jang-seon weaponizing cinnamon (yes, really) and Dong-ju being poisoned at dinner, I was holding my breath every five minutes. And just when we thought he might actually die (AGAIN), Dong-ju wakes up and takes down an assassin like the legend he is!

The emotional moments hit hard too—Eun-nam watching that violin video and finding the bracelet? Cue the tears.Their matching tattoos? I need them back together ASAP.

Also, shoutout to Eun-nam for turning into a full-blown investigator and quietly dropping bombs on Jang-seon and Il-do. She’s DONE being a pawn. And Il-do watching Dong-ju fight for his life from outside the hospital room?? This man is a walking red flag with perfect timing.

10/10 episodes. Tense, twisty, emotional, and so so satisfying. Buried Hearts is straight-up addictive. 😮‍💨💔
