Buried Hearts- Episodes 1-2
A Shocking Wedding Twist That Left Us Screaming!
Hello, Buried Hearts fans! π If you thought you were signing up for a simple corporate drama, Episode 1 just proved that this show is about to be a full-blown emotional rollercoaster! Betrayals, power struggles, and a jaw-dropping final scene—this episode had it ALL. Let’s dive right in!
The episode opens in the most ominous way possible: a broken-down raft carrying what appears to be a dead body. (Oh, you know this is going to be important later!) A fisherman stumbles upon it but instead of panicking, he swipes the guy’s watch. Priorities, I guess?
Cut to a high-stakes courtroom hearing. Huh Il-do, the top dog lawyer, is defending Daesan Group from allegations of financial fraud. But wait—what’s this? Seo Dong-ju is there too, rocking the exact same watch from the raft scene. Suspicious much?!
Dong-ju is acting as a messenger for an old man at home, who, with a simple command, shuts down the entire hearing. Just like that. Who is this guy, and why does he have so much power? We don’t know yet, but we’re so intrigued.
Flashback time! Dong-ju meets Assemblyman Nam Sang-cheol and slides him a massive bribe—two boxes of U.S. dollars, courtesy of Chairman Cha Gang-cheon. But Sang-cheol’s nephew is sharp and finds a hidden camera on Dong-ju! Scandalous!
But our boy Dong-ju is three steps ahead. He’s got a second hidden camera—on Sang-cheol’s cat! (A villainous mastermind and a cat lover? We stan.) With no other choice, Sang-cheol signs the deal, and just like that, the court hearing collapses.
At Chairman Cha’s lavish mansion, we get some juicy family tension. Il-do is married to Deok-hui, the chairman’s daughter, yet somehow, Dong-ju seems to be the one closest to the chairman. Oof. Il-do is not happy about that.
Later, we meet Yeo Eun-nam, an employee at Daesan Energy. There’s definitely something between her and Dong-ju—he lingers when he looks at her. π More on that later!
Meanwhile, powerful figures gather in a secret room behind a hidden wall (yes, we have secret rooms already!). They finalize a merger between Daesan Chemical and Yuseong Chemical. What does this mean? We have no idea yet, but it feels huge.
Now for the real heartbreak. At home, Dong-ju is cuddled up with Eun-nam, his sweet, loving girlfriend. But there’s tension—she makes cryptic comments about breaking up, and he just laughs it off. (Oh, Dong-ju, sweetie, no.)
Then, disaster strikes. Dong-ju collapses after eating a sandwich—he’s allergic to cinnamon! Eun-nam is devastated, saying she wanted the night to be special. Special how? She’s acting way too suspicious.
The next morning, Dong-ju gets a call: he’s needed at a wedding. Chairman Cha’s granddaughter is getting married, and he must attend. Oh, and by the way? He was once in love with her. π
At the wedding, Dong-ju runs into Yeom Hui-cheol—an old classmate who hates him. But that’s not the shocking part.
As the bride walks down the aisle, Dong-ju’s world collapses. Because Chairman Cha’s granddaughter, the woman he was once ready to chase across the world, is none other than… Yeo Eun-nam.
π₯π Screaming.
Dong-ju tries to rush forward, but before he can even process what’s happening, security grabs him and drags him away. And just like that, Buried Hearts Episode 1 ends on the biggest mic-drop moment of the year.
Just when we thought Episode 1 had maxed out on heartbreak and chaos, Episode 2 comes in and says, Hold my soju. From wedding-day betrayals to secret safes and a jaw-dropping attack, this episode did not hold back. Let’s break it all down!
We kick off right where we left off—Eun-nam, looking ethereal in her wedding dress, is not just some random Daesan Energy employee. Nope, she’s actually the daughter of Deok-hui and her first husband. And the drama doesn’t stop there! Her stepfather, Il-do, was her father’s best friend, and they were in an accident together where her real father died. π±
Il-do, ever the suspicious one, asks if Eun-nam’s relationship with Dong-ju is going to be a problem. Eun-nam, cool as ever, insists that Dong-ju isn’t clingy (Oh, girl, are you sure?! Because last episode ended with security DRAGGING him away!).
Meanwhile, poor Dong-ju is literally being thrown into a room after his dramatic outburst at the wedding. (Honestly, they should’ve let him cause a scene. We deserve the mess!) He checks his phone and finds a scheduled text from Eun-nam.
And what does it say? That he should take revenge on her by moving on with another woman. Ma’am. MA’AM. You just shattered his soul, and now you’re giving him breakup advice?! Unhinged behavior.
When Dong-ju is finally allowed to return—under strict instructions not to make a scene—he comes face to face with Eun-nam. He throws her watch back at her, calling out her deception. And then? BAM. Another bombshell.
Turns out, the watch was real all along. Not a fake. Just like their relationship, perhaps? (Cue sobbing noises.)
Eun-nam chooses this marriage for Daesan, for power, for her family’s future. And when Dong-ju asks if she even loves her groom? She coldly replies:
“The marriage I want doesn’t require love.”
π Someone hand me a tissue.
Needing some serious emotional support, Dong-ju heads to a church, where we meet Sister Agnes, who calls him Stephanus (ooh, mysterious past alert!). She comforts him, proving that at least someone in this drama actually cares about his well-being.
But this is Buried Hearts, and comfort doesn’t last long. Chairman Cha calls, and just like that, we’re back to soju smuggling and corporate espionage.
Flashback time! Eight years ago, Dong-ju was an up-and-coming prodigy when he first entered Chairman Cha’s inner circle. During a casual drink-with-an-egg (why is this a thing?!), he was introduced to the safe. And guess what? Dong-ju has a photographic memory.
Back in the present, he confidently marches over to the chairman’s office safe… only to find that the code has been changed. π«
Meanwhile, back at the Cha mansion, Eun-nam requests that the guest bedroom be prepared. (For whom?! Suspicious.) She later realizes that her entire family knows about her and Dong-ju.
Then, the real chaos begins: a family dinner, featuring special guest Dong-ju himself.
Imagine: You just got dumped in the worst way, and then you’re invited to dine with your ex, her husband, her overbearing mother, her ruthless grandfather, and her shady stepfather. If that’s not a circle of hell, I don’t know what is.
And, of course, Dong-ju drinks himself into oblivion. Because what else do you do in this situation?!
The next morning? Full-blown hangover. But no time to recover—he heads straight to work, sneaks into the secret meeting room, and finds yet another safe that he still can’t crack. Frustration level: 1000.
The drama escalates when we learn that Chairman Cha has known about Dong-ju and Eun-nam all along.
Flashback time! Yeom Jang-seon (Eun-nam’s new father-in-law) made a deal with Chairman Cha: If he keeps Dong-ju out of Daesan, the wedding can go on. Chairman Cha, being the ultimate puppet master, pretends to consider kicking Dong-ju out but instead keeps him on a tight leash. (Ah, corporate politics at its finest!)
But wait, there’s more! Chairman Cha has an illegitimate son?!
Dong-ju gets taken to a random bakery (???) where we meet Ji Seon-u, the chairman’s hidden son. The chairman casually announces that he wants to make Seon-u an official heir. (Just throwing new heirs into the mix like it’s a casual Tuesday.)
Back at the Cha mansion, Deok-hui realizes that her son Tae-yun is close with Dong-ju (um, why is literally everyone connected to Dong-ju?!).
Meanwhile, Il-do is FURIOUS that he’s not being promoted to Vice Chairman. Instead, Choi Gi-hyeon gets the position, and Il-do immediately blames Dong-ju. (Because of course he does!)
And who else blames Dong-ju? Yeom Jang-seon. (Great. Just what he needed. More enemies.)
Just when you think things can’t get crazier, Dong-ju is sent to investigate Manager Yoo, a Daesan employee who’s been causing trouble. He arrives at the guy’s house, and the door is unlocked. π¨ NEVER a good sign.
Inside? A DEAD BODY.
And then—BAM! A man with a knife lunges at Dong-ju.
The fight is intense—Dong-ju barely manages to hold his own before knocking the guy out. But before he can process anything, the attacker’s phone rings.
Dong-ju picks it up, and on the other end, a voice asks:
“Is Dong-ju dead?”
π€ DROP!
And that’s how Buried Hearts Episode 2 ends—with us screaming at our screens.
DramaZen's Opinion
So, what did you think of the premiere? Are you team “Eun-nam had her reasons” or team “Justice for Dong-ju”?! Let’s chat in the comments! π₯°π
I’m convinced Buried Hearts wants me to have a heart attack. That wedding betrayal? The dinner tension? And now a full-blown attempted murder? I’M NOT OKAY.
Eun-nam telling Dong-ju to ‘get revenge’ and move on broke me. But let’s be real—Dong-ju is NOT over her. This love story is far from over.
Also, let me get this straight… Dong-ju has a photographic memory, is entangled in a web of family betrayals, is secretly an emotional wreck over Eun-nam, and now he’s about to uncover something deadly? He’s basically the Korean James Bond.
(P.S. Should I start a Dong-ju protection squad? Because this man is going through it.)
