A Thrilling Start to the Journey!

Hey Guardians fans! If you're anything like me, you've been eagerly awaiting the debut of Guardians of the Dafeng, and wow—what a start! Let’s dive into the juicy details of the first two episodes and break down all the twists, turns, and unexpected surprises that have us hooked already.

Oh, I also want to add before we start, the pictures I'm posting are from all different episodes as spoilers and clues for what is to come 😉

Episode 1: A Promotion, A Mystery, and A New Reality

The premiere episode kicks off at a company team-building event where our protagonist, Xu Qi’an, arrives late after meeting with a client. Thinking it’s just a casual dinner, he's blindsided when the boss announces his promotion to Regional Manager of the North District, assisting the ever-ambitious General Manager Zhu. Needless to say, Zhu isn't thrilled about losing his shot at the top spot to Xu Qi’an and doesn’t shy away from making some cutting remarks about his lack of experience.

In an unexpected move, instead of retaliating, Xu Qi’an offers a toast and an apology, diffusing the tension—only for it to escalate into an intriguing murder mystery game proposed by the charming Chu Caiwei. But just as things seem to be settling, Manager Zhu drinks himself into oblivion.

As the game begins, Xu Qi’an is assigned the role of a "night watchman." But plot twist! He wakes up in an actual prison cell, confused and disoriented, facing a stern jailer who treats him as if he’s always been there. Turns out, he’s now living inside the world of the murder mystery game!

Enter Xu Xinnian, his refined yet serious cousin, who informs him that their father was implicated in a major scandal involving missing tax silver. With execution looming in five days, Xu Qi’an jumps into action, determined to solve the case. His investigative skills shine as he pieces together the puzzle, eventually deducing that the silver was swapped with sodium—an element that explodes upon contact with water. Thanks to Chu Caiwei’s magical assistance, his theory is proven correct, and the entire Xu family is cleared of wrongdoing.

What a rollercoaster of an episode! Xu Qi’an proves he’s not just clever but also quick-witted under pressure.

Episode 2: Adjusting to a New Life

After being freed from prison, Xu Qi’an returns home, only to find his cousin Xu Xinnian attempting to hang himself—talk about drama! Fortunately, the family intervenes, saving him just in time. Dinner that evening turns into a heartwarming moment as Xu Qi’an shares how he cracked the case, and in true comedic fashion, Xu Pingzhi claims he nearly figured it out himself.

As Xu Qi’an adjusts to his new reality, he starts to better understand his quirky family. Uncle Xu Pingzhi is an honest and straightforward martial artist, while his aunt is as calculating as they come. His two younger sisters add a touch of humor—the elder being a romantic bookworm and the younger, an adorable foodie.

Soon enough, he finds himself reluctantly taking up the position of junior constable. On his first day, he’s handed a perplexing murder case involving a wealthy man, Zhang Yourui, who was mysteriously killed. Xu Qi’an’s sharp mind quickly uncovers an illicit affair between Zhang Yourui’s concubine and his son, Zhang Xian. Through clever psychological probing, he gets the concubine to spill the truth, closing the case.

Despite Xu Qi’an’s victory, Chu Caiwei remains skeptical—foreshadowing possible complications down the road. But for now, our protagonist has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with!

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Guardians of the Dafeng (2024)

Wow, where do I even begin? Guardians of the Dafeng has set the stage for an epic journey, blending workplace drama with fantasy, mystery, and humor seamlessly. Xu Qi’an is a refreshing protagonist—resourceful, witty, and always keeping his cool under pressure. The transition from the corporate world to a historical fantasy setting was handled brilliantly, keeping us guessing every step of the way.

The supporting characters are already showing promise, especially Chu Caiwei, who adds a lively spark to every scene she’s in. The mystery elements are engaging without feeling overly complicated, and the balance between suspense and humor keeps things entertaining.

Overall, I’d rate the first two episodes a solid 9/10. If the show keeps this momentum going, we’re in for an unforgettable ride!
