Episode 3: Locked In and Breaking Out

Xu Qi’an’s life as a constable takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon a daring prison break attempt at the Hall of Righteousness. Despite his efforts to intervene, the criminals nearly overpower him until Song Tingfeng and Li Yuchun arrive just in time to save the day. Xu Qi’an, newly impressed by the prestige of his role, starts taking his job more seriously.

However, his newfound confidence is quickly tempered by his uncle Xu Pingzhi’s words of caution—warning him that passion often leads to disappointment in officialdom. After earning some respect from Captain Wang, Xu Qi’an is given access to the archives—only to find himself locked in for days, drowning in unresolved case files.

Captain Wang, pleased with Xu Qi’an’s performance, generously approves him working from home—much to his dismay, as his uncle ensures he doesn’t escape the mountain of paperwork. Realizing he’s trapped, Xu Qi’an shifts tactics and starts currying favor with Captain Wang, even joining him on social outings. As his charm wins the captain over, Xu Qi’an is gradually granted more freedom.

Episode 4: Trouble with the Ministry of Revenue

Xu Qi’an’s newfound freedom comes at a price when an outing with his sisters leads to a clash with the arrogant son of an official. What starts as a minor altercation escalates into serious trouble, and Xu Qi’an finds himself imprisoned once again. Desperate, he reaches out to Chu Caiwei, knowing she can help.

With the intervention of influential allies, including Song Qing and Xu Xinnian’s scholarly mentors, Xu Qi’an is finally released, much to the dismay of his enemies. However, the situation takes a darker turn when Chu Caiwei reveals that his imprisonment was part of a larger scheme tied to the tax silver embezzlement case.

Determined to bring down the corrupt officials involved, Xu Qi’an devises a plan to expose the mastermind, Zhou Xianping, by targeting his vulnerabilities. Teaming up with his uncle and cousin, he prepares to strike while Zhou Xianping scrambles to cover his tracks.

Opinion of Guardians of the Dafeng (2024)

Hey fellow Guardians of the Dafeng fans! Episodes 3 and 4 really took things up a notch, blending thrilling action, sharp humor, and deeper political intrigue. If you thought Xu Qi’an’s journey was going to slow down after solving the silver theft case, think again! Let’s dive into the highlights and my thoughts on these episodes.

Episodes 3 and 4 did an excellent job of expanding the story beyond just individual cases, bringing in political intrigue and personal stakes that have me hooked. The humor remains top-notch, with Xu Qi’an’s witty and sometimes reluctant responses to his predicament providing plenty of laughs. But underneath the comedy lies a growing tension, and it’s clear that the stakes are getting higher.

I’m loving how the show continues to balance mystery, humor, and character development. Xu Qi’an is evolving into a truly compelling protagonist—smart, resourceful, and always thinking several steps ahead. The introduction of new political players and a larger conspiracy brewing in the background only adds to the excitement.

If you haven't watched these episodes yet, you're missing out on some of the best moments of the series so far. Can’t wait to see how Xu Qi’an handles the looming threats in the next episodes!
