The Best Day of My Life- Episodes 11-12
The latest episode plunges into the heart of misunderstandings as Xu Mu bravely confronts Xie Shi about his past. After her date with Zhang Yao, she meets up with friends, unaware that Shen Yi has tipped off Xie Shi about the evening’s events. Though a wave of despondency washes over Xie Shi upon hearing about Zhang Yao's confession to Xu Mu, he can't help but feel a flicker of relief when he learns she turned him down. But when pressed about his feelings for Xu Mu, he falls silent, leaving a lingering tension in the air. Restless and yearning to see her, he prepares to meet Xu Mu, only to be abruptly pulled away by an urgent call that sends him rushing for a flight.
On her way to work, Xu Mu faces her mother’s stern concern about her mental health and an insistence to set her up with someone new. At the office, she overhears whispers about Director Chiang’s engagement but mistakenly believes Xie Shi is the one getting married. Confident in her misunderstanding, she learns from her friends that Xie Shi has gone abroad, further fueling her confusion.
The next day brings an unexpected blind date orchestrated by her mother. Initially resistant, Xu Mu decides to go, indifferent to her prospects. But fate takes a twist when she finds Xie Shi sitting at the café. When she mistakenly accuses him of being engaged to Qiao Nan, Xie Shi, momentarily taken aback, quickly clarifies her mix-up, assuring her that his relationship with Qiao Nan is purely platonic. Despite his reassurances, Xu Mu’s anger simmers to the surface. She questions his motives for being there, demanding to know if he’s searching for someone new for his “fake marriage.” As she storms out, Xie Shi grabs her, declaring his true desire to marry her—a proposal that sends shockwaves through her heart, and to her surprise, she accepts.
In a whirlwind of emotion, they sign their household register as a couple and pose for pictures. As Xu Mu moves into Xie Shi’s apartment, she wrestles with shyness at the prospect of sharing a bed, her mind racing with misinterpretations of Xie Shi’s intentions, fearing he might push for intimacy. But when the moment arrives, nothing happens, leaving her both relieved and confused.
The following day, as congratulations flood in from her boss and colleagues, Xu Mu’s world shatters upon learning that Xie Shi will soon leave Jiangbei. Meanwhile, inspired by Xu Mu’s words, Zhang Yao donates his paintings to charity and quietly slips away from the city, leaving no trace behind.
After a night out with friends, Xie Shi returns home, drunk and vulnerable. Xu Mu, ever the devoted companion, tends to him. In a moment of vulnerability, Xie Shi pulls her closer, igniting a spark that almost leads to a kiss—only for Xu Mu to hold back at the last second, her heart racing with uncertainty.
As the episode unfolds, Nian Nian receives a frantic call from her father about her mother’s declining health. Shen Yi steps in, steadfast by her side, as he balances work with hospital visits. He even learns to cook, taking turns caring for Nian Nian’s mother, showcasing the power of support and love in trying times.
Episode 12 delves into the haunting echoes of Xie Shi’s tragic past, unraveling the layers of pain that have shaped him. Amidst this turmoil, Nian Nian and Shen Yi have exciting news for their friends—they’ve decided to tie the knot! While Xu Mu and Xie Shi believe it’s too soon for such commitments, they can’t help but celebrate the joyous couple with heartfelt congratulations and a toast of alcohol to honor the occasion.
As the night unfolds, Nian Nian and Shen Yi indulge a bit too much, leaving them blissfully drunk and oblivious in another room. This forces Xu Mu and Xie Shi into an unexpected situation—sharing a bed. In a twist of fate, Xu Mu, still in slumber, instinctively cuddles up to Xie Shi, only to awaken in his warm embrace. Embarrassed, she feigns sleep as Xie Shi stirs awake, adding to the tension brewing between them.
The awkwardness carries over to breakfast, where Xu Mu attempts small talk to ease the palpable discomfort. Just then, Xie Shi receives a call from an unknown number, his demeanor shifting instantly. He dismisses the call, sending a terse text asking the caller to stop bothering him. Xu Mu catches a glimpse of his unease and inquires, but Xie Shi reassures her that it’s not about a girl, though a storm brews behind his calm facade.
Later, after a long day, Xu Mu texts Xie Shi but is met with silence. Panic sets in as her calls go unanswered, prompting her to rush home in search of him. Upon entering the bedroom, she finds him sprawled on the bed, feverish and unresponsive. Without hesitation, Xu Mu leaps into action, bringing him cooling patches and preparing porridge, staying vigil by his side until he finally drifts into a restless sleep.
The following day, Xie Shi’s troubles come crashing down as his estranged father waits outside his apartment. The man who has plagued him with incessant calls now demands money, pushing Xie Shi to the edge. When Xie Shi stands firm in his refusal, the confrontation escalates, with his father grabbing him by the collar and issuing threats against his mother’s belongings. With no other choice, Xie Shi relents and hands over his card, a reluctant concession that weighs heavily on him.
Unbeknownst to them, Xu Mu watches from a distance, her heart aching at the scene. Determined to understand Xie Shi’s struggles, she reaches out to his aunt for insights into his tumultuous family history. The revelations are heartbreaking—growing up, Xie Shi and his mother were victims of his father’s abusive nature, fueled by a debilitating gambling addiction. After his mother fell ill, pride prevented Xie Shi from seeking help, forcing him to learn to fend for himself. Tragically, his mother’s battle ended in loss, leaving Xie Shi to navigate the shadows of his past alone.
Later, Xu Mu stumbles upon a nostalgic magazine from their school days, her eyes widening as she spots an article she had written. Curiosity piqued, she turns to Xie Shi and asks why he has kept this relic from their past. What follows is a captivating flashback that unveils Xie Shi's perspective from their time as classmates.
From the very moment Xie Shi laid eyes on Xu Mu, he was struck by an undeniable spark—an instant connection that left him breathless. The shock of discovering that she was his desk mate when he transferred schools sent his heart racing, but his shyness silenced his true feelings. Each action that Xu Mu perceived as unkind was, in reality, a clumsy attempt by Xie Shi to express his deep affection for her. His every teasing remark and playful jab masked a tender care, revealing a heart that yearned to protect and cherish her from the shadows.
As the memories unfold, the tangled web of unspoken emotions becomes clear, transforming their past misunderstandings into a bittersweet tale of longing and love. We catch a glimpse of the letter he tucked in her notebook to finally confess to her. He misunderstood that she rejected him, when in reality she had never seen the note he had left. Too late to explain, his mother passed away and he transferred without saying goodbye, thinking it was for the best for both of them.
DramaZen's Opinion
I’m thrilled to see Xu Mu and Xie Shi finally unravel their tangled misunderstandings and take the plunge into marriage! Initially, it seemed like she was willing to settle for just anyone, but as they explored their shared history and his heartfelt reflections, it became clear that their feelings have beautifully aligned at last. It’s a journey of growth that’s so satisfying to witness!
And how exciting for Nian Nian and Shen Yi! Their decision to tie the knot feels like a natural evolution. Nian Nian has truly shed her childish tendencies, realizing that Shen Yi is not just a partner but a perfect complement to her vibrant spirit. His kindness and caring nature fill the gaps in her life, creating a sweet and heartwarming dynamic between them. Adorable!
On a darker note, Xie Shi's painful family history is utterly heartbreaking. His father’s behavior was nothing short of atrocious, and he doesn’t deserve a single ounce of compassion from Xie Shi. The audacity of a man who inflicted so much pain, only to ask his son for money after causing so much devastation—it's infuriating! Xie Shi’s strength in breaking free from that toxic legacy is truly admirable. He deserves so much better!
