The Best Day of My Life- Episodes 1-2
I recently discovered The Best Day of My Life, and I have to admit, the premise immediately intrigued me. A reunion between former high school classmates after 12 years apart? I was hooked!
So let’s dive into the details and see if this drama is worth your time!
The story kicks off with Xu Mu participating in a quick Q&A on the street. When asked what she'd say to her high school crush, she nonchalantly claims she'd forget him even if they met. Meanwhile, Xie Shi, her old classmate, has a similar interview where he remarks that even if he saw his crush, she probably wouldn't remember him. Little do they know, their paths are about to cross once again.
After their brief Q&A, the reporters joke that Xu Mu and Xie Shi are like characters in a TV drama, perfectly matched. Xie Shi, catching a glimpse of Xu Mu’s silhouette, stands frozen, watching her for what feels like an eternity. The two are already in the same city but unaware of just how close their lives are about to intertwine again.
Xu Mu’s life is a whirlwind of awkward blind dates, the latest one featuring a man so absurd he asks if her nearsightedness might affect their future children! Disgusted, Xu Mu quickly shuts him down, deciding not to meet him again. In a nearby conversation, Xie Shi is catching up with his friend Shen Yi, who is thrilled to learn Xie Shi has transferred and plans to stay for good. Their excitement marks a new chapter in Xie Shi's life—one that will inevitably collide with Xu Mu’s.
Later, over barbecue with her friend Song Niannian, Xu Mu’s past is stirred up once more when her mother calls to scold her for yet another failed blind date. Song Niannian teases her, wondering if her bad luck stems from heartbreak, then brings up Xie Shi, the boy who used to sit next to her in school. Xu Mu laughs it off, claiming she wouldn’t even recognize him today. But just as she says this, Xie Shi, dining in the same restaurant, overhears and leaves quietly, disappointment flickering in his eyes.
Life moves on, but fate has other plans. When Xu Mu returns to work, her new boss turns out to be none other than Xie Shi, now going by Jiang Zhou. During their first meeting, he remains composed, even as Xu Mu starts to suspect something familiar about him. When she asks a colleague about Director Jiang, the mystery deepens—could he really be the Xie Shi from her past?
Determined to uncover the truth, Xu Mu embarks on a mission. She devises clever schemes to test his identity, from trying to catch him eating red bean bread (which Xie Shi used to hate) to dragging him onto a cable car, knowing his fear of heights. Yet, every attempt seems to fall flat as Xie Shi, or Jiang Zhou, outsmarts her at every turn.
As the tension builds, Xu Mu’s determination grows. Each interaction with Jiang Zhou brings her closer to proving what she already knows in her heart: he is Xie Shi. But will she ever be able to break through his carefully crafted façade, and will the boy she once knew finally reveal himself? With so many missed chances and lingering feelings, The Best Day of My Life promises plenty of twists, turns, and a lot of heart sp far.
In episode 2, things heat up when Xu Mu’s past starts catching up with her. After buying some medicine, she realizes it’s not safe for people with allergies—an issue that takes her back to high school when she fainted from an allergic reaction. Planning to exchange it, Xu Mu is caught off guard when Jiang Zhou stops her, nonchalantly reminding her that her high school allergy was caused by eating too many peanuts. The comment is too personal, and Xu Mu immediately confronts him, demanding he drop the act and admit he’s Xie Shi, her old classmate.
Xie Shi fires back, pointing out that she was the one pretending not to recognize him first. Xu Mu brushes it off, wondering aloud why he’s holding such a grudge over a casual remark. His response? He’s selective about his grudges—and then casually suggests they grab a meal, telling her to take her medicine afterward. Xu Mu, still annoyed, declines and asks him to take her home instead. But Xie Shi isn’t backing down, insisting she’ll regret skipping the meal. Moments later, he’s fetching the car, leaving Xu Mu more flustered than ever.
But things take a dramatic twist when a girl suddenly appears, calling out “Jiang Zhou gege” and clinging to his arm. It’s Chen Xi, fresh from overseas, and her presence leaves both Jiang Zhou and Xu Mu caught off guard. Xu Mu tries to sneak away, but Xie Shi spots her hiding and calls her out, asking if she has something to say. Embarrassed, Xu Mu denies it, only for the shop assistant to announce that her “boyfriend’s” tie is ready, with a card addressed to Jiang Zhou—right in front of Chen Xi. The awkwardness is palpable as Xu Mu scrambles for an explanation, leaving Chen Xi fuming.
Xu Mu turns to Xie Shi for help, but he refuses to intervene, sending Chen Xi storming off in a huff. Xie Shi then presses Xu Mu, asking why she told the shop assistant he was her boyfriend. Caught in the mess, Xu Mu tries to explain that team leader Liao had asked her to buy the tie, but Xie Shi isn’t letting her off the hook so easily. He suggests they talk it over—preferably at an ordinary restaurant, away from prying eyes.
The tension between them is undeniable, but with every encounter, it’s clear that unresolved feelings from the past are simmering just beneath the surface.
During dinner, an awkward moment unfolds when Xie Shi reaches out toward Xu Mu, causing her to instinctively brace for what she assumes is an attack. Instead, he’s merely brushing dust off her clothes, leaving her red-faced with embarrassment. Later, she vents to Song Niannian about how frustrating Xie Shi is, even giving her gifts when she’s sick. Song Niannian, ever the tease, jokes that Xu Mu seems like a princess sent to marry for peace, and even suggests she gift Xie Shi an Ultraman figurine, asking him if he believes in light! Xu Mu laughs it off, but the tension is undeniable.
Meanwhile, Shen Yi’s life takes an unexpected turn when his father forces him to train at the company for three months, dangling the restoration of his credit card as motivation. Things get weirder when Shen Yi’s colleagues react to his name with surprise—it turns out a notorious villain in a popular novel shares his name. The real twist? The author is none other than his high school classmate, Song Niannian!
Song Niannian tells Xu Mu about running into Shen Yi, while Shen Yi fills in Xie Shi on the same. Both curse their bad luck, completely unaware their fates are about to become even more tangled.
In a lighthearted turn, Xu Mu’s team celebrates a successful project with dinner and a game of Truth or Dare. When it’s her turn, her colleagues dare her to hug the first person who walks through the door. A little unsure, Xu Mu worries it might be too much, but Song Niannian playfully reassures her—it’s not like she’s giving away underwear! They soon find themselves at a tie shop where Xu Mu picks out a tie for Jiang Zhou, wrapping it with a card.
DramaZen's Opinion
I'm absolutely loving this so far! The main leads are beyond adorable together!
Their chemistry is undeniable, and every scene they share has this natural spark that makes it so fun to watch. I’m not sure if the actors are new because I haven’t seen them in other dramas, but the female lead does look vaguely familiar. Either way, they’re both nailing their roles. The dynamic between them feels so well-balanced, and I’m hooked on their interactions.
As for the second leads, I’m not entirely sold yet. They’re fine, but there’s something missing that the main couple has in spades. That being said, you can already see where their storyline is heading—classic enemies-to-lovers vibes, and I have a feeling it’s going to happen fast!
Let’s see how it all unfolds, but right now, the main couple is totally stealing the show!
