The Best Day of My Life- (Final) Episodes 13-14
Xu Mu couldn’t shake the memories of the day they first crossed paths—twelve summers ago, as Xie Shi reminded her. Once, he had believed that fate was a one-way street, but after Xu Mu suggested it was more like a circle, he had waited ever since for their paths to intertwine again. When she asked if he was waiting for the moment they’d reunite, Xie Shi confessed it was much more profound; he longed for the day everything would align perfectly between them.
With a wistful smile, Xu Mu recalled how Song Niannian had persistently questioned her feelings for Xie Shi, only to have her brush them off. Even now, married to him, she hesitated to admit her true feelings, worried it might just be a product of their time spent together—or perhaps mere wishful thinking. The uncertainty gnawed at her. Deep down, Xu Mu had been hoping for the moment Xie Shi would finally voice his affection.
She felt a wave of relief wash over her when he didn’t keep her waiting. Xie Shi stepped closer, pulled her into his embrace, and kissed her. Xu Mu couldn’t help but chuckle, remembering how Shen Yi had pointed out Xie Shi’s inexperience with relationships. Xie Shi playfully replied that he hadn’t realized it was due to someone special.
Meanwhile, Song Niannian scrolled through Xu Mu’s social media post, puzzled. Shen Yi glanced at it, casually dismissing it as nothing significant. But Song Niannian insisted there was more to it, daring Shen Yi to make a bet. He accepted, and the stakes were high: if she won, she would choose their wedding photoshoot, and he agreed.
As Xu Mu and Xie Shi returned home, they joked about lunch plans. Xu Mu suggested a comforting pork rib soup, wrapping her arms around him from behind. Just then, Shen Yi and Song Niannian arrived, standing in the doorway and observing their moment. When Xie Shi turned to kiss Xu Mu, he noticed their friends watching. “What brings you here?” Xu Mu asked, to which Shen Yi teased that they had no one to blame but themselves for leaving the door unlocked.
In a moment of playful honesty, Xu Mu revealed to Song Niannian that Xie Shi had harbored feelings for her long before they got married. The revelation left Song Niannian wide-eyed, astonished that she had missed his secret crush. “Was your social media post about him?” she asked. Xu Mu confirmed it, explaining that their journey had begun at the same starting point. Thrilled for her friend, Song Niannian celebrated their love.
Xie Shi, however, had important matters to discuss with Shen Yi. He mentioned needing to take Xu Mu back to his hometown to retrieve his mother’s belongings, as his father had mortgaged the house to pay off debts. Meanwhile, Song Niannian and Shen Yi dove into wedding plans, brainstorming grand celebrations. To Shen Yi’s surprise, Song Niannian declared she didn’t want a traditional wedding anymore. “What? Are you having second thoughts?” he asked, alarmed. “No, I want a destination wedding!” she clarified.
Their eyes lit up at the prospect of Iceland, dreaming of the Northern Lights and stunning photos at Lake Geneva. Shen Yi couldn’t contain his excitement, revealing his desire for a big family. Song Niannian laughed, insisting she wasn’t ready for children just yet and wanted to embrace freedom first.
Arriving at Xie Shi’s hometown, they encountered a cheerful old neighbor who was delighted to see Xie Shi thriving in both family and career. After the neighbor left, Xu Mu suggested they start sorting through his mother’s belongings. She was surprised by how few items remained, to which Xie Shi explained that most had been sold by his father. Just then, the neighbor returned with a delicious spread of food.
While flipping through Xu Mu’s photo album, the neighbor noticed a silhouette of her and recalled the day she had brought a cake for Xie Shi’s birthday, which his mother had cherished. Amidst the sweet memories, Song Niannian and Shen Yi had a disagreement, leading her to stay at Xie Shi’s place. Later, under the veil of night, Xu Mu tiptoed out to meet Xie Shi, playfully lamenting that even though they were married, it felt like they were sneaking around like secret lovers.
Xu Mu facilitated a heartfelt reunion between Song Niannian and Shen Yi, bringing a sense of relief as she finally found a moment alone with Xie Shi. After a joyful holiday with her family, Xu Mu called Xie Shi to video chat, longing to connect with the man who had captured her heart.
In the heart-stirring finale of our series, Xu Mu returns to her childhood home to celebrate New Year’s with her family. As the festivities unfold, the couple shares their daily adventures, bridging the distance between them. Xie Shi, stepping beyond his comfort zone, embraces Xu Mu’s lively family, discovering the warmth of their bonds. The following morning, he surprises her with an unexpected visit, igniting a spark of excitement.
Xu Mu’s parents welcome Xie Shi with open arms, showering him with affection and treating him like a beloved son. He spends the day immersed in their joy, savoring Mrs. Xu's delicious home-cooked meals and capturing cherished moments in a family photograph. As night falls, Xu Mu and Xie Shi retreat to the terrace, where they share a cozy movie night under the stars.
Midway through the film, Xie Shi pauses and plays clips from the street interview that marked the beginning of their journey together. With sincerity in his voice, he declares Xu Mu to be both his destiny and his origin, revealing that his life feels incomplete without her. In a breathtaking moment, he kneels, producing a ring, and asks Xu Mu to marry him again. Overcome with emotion, she accepts, sealing their love once more.
Fast forward to their blissful married life, where Nian Nian and Shen Yi also thrive in their happiness. Six years later, their son Huanghuang has become a bright light in their lives, especially for Xie Shi, who adores him. The two couples unite to celebrate Huanghuang’s birthday, a day filled with laughter and warmth. Yet, as Nian Nian observes the bond between Xie Shi and her son, she nudges Xu Mu about their own plans for children. Xu Mu hesitates, revealing their busy work lives and reluctance to leave their solitary comfort. Nian Nian encourages her to reconsider, leaving Huanghuang in their care for a short getaway.
As the days unfold, spending time with the thoughtful Huanghuang opens Xu Mu’s eyes to the joys of parenthood, prompting a heartfelt discussion with Xie Shi. Though she knows of his traumatic past with his father, she’s taken aback when he expresses their mutual desire to welcome a child into their lives soon. Joy fills their home when Xu Mu discovers she’s pregnant, and the couple dives into the delightful chaos of planning for their new arrival.
The narrative shifts to their little one, Jiang Yule, who fondly shares that while his father calls him by his full name, his mother affectionately nicknames him Manman. The playful child gives viewers a tour of their home, showcasing Xie Shi’s nurturing side, a stark contrast to his own turbulent upbringing.
Jiang Yule unveils a memorial album filled with snapshots of his parents’ love story, from their first public appearance to unforgettable moments captured through the years. As the family prepares to head out, the series culminates in a breathtaking scene by the sea, where they take wedding photos together, symbolizing love, growth, and a future filled with promise.
DramaZen's Opinion
It's sad that this drama has come to an end. I found myself enjoying this drama more than I thought I would.
I was completely taken by surprise by the six-year time skip in the middle of the episode! This drama, though short, was undeniably adorable. While some moments felt rushed, the undeniable chemistry between the leads shone brightly, capturing countless cute interactions that made my heart flutter.
The glimpses of their child's point of view added a charming layer to the story, making it even more delightful. Honestly, I would love to see a mini-series or a Season 2 for this show if they ever consider it. The leads balanced each other perfectly, creating a dynamic that was simply captivating.
It’s also a refreshing change to see second leads getting so much screen time; at times, it felt like they were the central couple! Their sweet ending left me with a smile, wrapping up the series on a high note.
