The Best Day of My Life- Episodes 5-6
A few days ago, Xu Mu confided in Song Niannian that ever since she started pretending to date Xie Shi, her mother had finally stopped pressuring her about marriage. Instead, her mom had been asking about travel group recommendations! Song Niannian thought it was perfect—both Xu Mu and she could finally relax a little. Curious, Song Niannian asked how things were going with Xie Shi, and Xu Mu simply said, "pretty well."
While grocery shopping together, Xu Mu held up two bags of chips, torn between the flashy packaging of one and the clever slogan on the other. Before she could decide, Song Niannian tossed both into the cart, saying she'd treat her. Meanwhile, Xie Shi and Shen Yi were also at the supermarket, with Shen Yi throwing some major side-eye at Xie Shi’s decision to move in with Xu Mu. "You're just dating, right? What happens when she gets all strict with you? What about our bro time?" Shen Yi teased. Xie Shi shot back, telling him to hang out with Song Niannian if he was so worried.
Their paths soon crossed at the supermarket. Spotting Shen Yi's cart overflowing with groceries, Song Niannian asked him, "Can you even cook?" Shen Yi, flustered, quickly pointed to Xie Shi. "These are his," he muttered, while Song Niannian quipped to Xu Mu, "Looks like your boyfriend's pretty domestic." Shen Yi wasn't done, though. When he saw all the snacks in Song Niannian's cart, he joked, "Can you really eat all that junk food?" Xu Mu smirked and claimed them, leading Shen Yi to tease Xie Shi, "Your girlfriend's got quite the appetite."
Later, back at Xie Shi’s place, they were settling in when the doorbell rang. A property management worker stood at the door, asking if "Mr. Jiang" was home. The worker raised an eyebrow when Xu Mu answered the door and asked about her relationship with Xie Shi. Before she could say a word, Xie Shi appeared, cool as ever, and confidently said, "She's my girlfriend." Xie Shi explained that he added Xu Mu to the building's group chat to handle things while he traveled for work. When Xu Mu updated her name to "Resident of 1202," gossip in the group chat exploded. Someone immediately asked if she was Xie Shi’s girlfriend—or maybe even his wife, since she was added to the owner’s group.
Unbothered, Xie Shi brushed it off, telling Xu Mu not to worry about the chatter. But before long, he mentioned something else—an old friend would be visiting their home, and he wanted her to meet them. Xu Mu was nervous, unsure what to say, but Xie Shi casually told her to call him the same name she used last time. So, when the moment came, she blurted out "husband," much to the shock of his friends. They couldn’t believe how close the two seemed, even commenting on how affectionate they were for a couple who hadn’t been together long.
Later, Xu Mu received a message from Song Niannian. Her friend was organizing a couples' event at Bohai Bay, and Xu Mu and Xie Shi were invited—free of charge, with the promise of being paired with a handsome guy. When Xu Mu asked Song Niannian if she should tell Xie Shi, Song Niannian playfully teased, "Are you two reporting your schedules now?" Xu Mu decided to mention it, and overhearing the conversation, Xie Shi immediately declared he’d go with her—no competition allowed. He called Shen Yi to even the odds.
When they arrived at Bohai Bay, the organizers booked two rooms with king-sized beds, and Shen Yi cheekily suggested sharing one with Song Niannian so that Xu Mu and Xie Shi wouldn’t be "separated." Both girls objected, so Xie Shi calmly proposed that Xu Mu and Song Niannian room together instead. Despite the awkward start, Xu Mu and Xie Shi ended up winning first place at the couple’s event, leaving Song Niannian in stitches. "Isn’t it hilarious that the fake couple beat all the real ones?" she teased. When Xu Mu later asked Xie Shi if he had any regrets, his answer was simple yet loaded: "I have many."
Xie Shi couldn’t shake off the pang of jealousy when he learned Xu Mu had dreamt about a dashing stranger the night before. As Xu Mu attempted to dive into their project plan, Xie Shi turned a cold shoulder, refusing to meet her gaze. Undeterred, she chased him to the elevator, only to stumble upon his colleagues waiting to meet him. Awkwardly, Xu Mu exchanged greetings, her heart racing as she slipped away.
In the meeting that followed, a colleague dropped a bombshell: Shangxin was aggressively pushing their proposal to replace their partnership, and Xie Shi thought it was a disorganized mess. Team Leader Liao wore a long face, prompting concern from his team, especially when he revealed that Liji had signaled they might not consider their work any further. Xu Mu's heart sank; the news felt like a personal blow. Zhao Yusi was fuming, demanding to know why they would treat Xu Mu with such disregard after her relentless efforts. Could it really be linked to her past with Jiang Zhou?
Later that evening, Xu Mu called Song Niannian, lamenting her teasing had backfired—Xie Shi wouldn't even glance at the proposal. Song Niannian urged her to make amends, just as Xie Shi stepped through the door. In an effort to smooth things over, Xu Mu unveiled a lavish dinner, declaring it a feast for the senses. But as she took a bite, her bravado crumbled; the taste was a disaster. With a knowing smirk, Xie Shi revealed he was aware of the proposal’s rejection and was already investigating the matter.
Feeling guilty for misreading him, Xu Mu offered a massage, but Xie Shi declined, preferring to keep the air clear. Meanwhile, Song Niannian faced criticism on her script, with reviewers calling the romance too naive. When Xu Mu teasingly questioned her dating experience, Song Niannian lamented that good men were scarce, and her expectations had plummeted.
Determined to prove her friend wrong, Xu Mu encouraged Song Niannian to pursue real romance. Their conversation was interrupted by Shen Yi, who, after a playful exchange, suggested a more hands-on approach to dating. Their chemistry crackled as they began participating in couple activities, making for an unexpected pairing.
Amidst the unfolding dramas, Xu Mu’s rival, Fang Jingjing, sought to join their team, claiming her connection with Liji had soured after they dropped her. While out for business, Xu Mu unexpectedly crossed paths with Xie Shi, sparking Fang Jingjing's assumption that their romance had fizzled. Xie Shi, unfazed, declared that while relationships may shift, Xu Mu was anything but ordinary.
As Xie Shi resolved the proposal issues, Team Leader Liao shared the good news: Liji would continue to work with Xu Mu. Excited, she prepared a celebratory dinner and even splurged on a cake, eagerly awaiting Xie Shi's return home, unaware of the surprises the night would hold.
DramaZen's Opinion
These two episodes delved deeply into Song Niannian’s evolving dynamic with Shen Yi, and while I wasn't initially a fan of her character, I can’t deny she’s beginning to win me over. Their playful enemies-to-friends storyline is both charming and entertaining, hinting that romance is just around the corner. The chemistry is palpable, and it’s only a matter of time before their banter ignites into something more.
Meanwhile, our main leads are nothing short of adorable! Watching him get jealous over a dream had me grinning from ear to ear. His unwavering devotion and instinct to come to her rescue make my heart flutter. Yet, she remains blissfully unaware, mistaking his affectionate gestures for mere camaraderie among old classmates.
And then there's Jing Jing—she's truly testing my patience! The audacity of her scheming to infiltrate the company and steal credit from Xu Mu, all while whispering venomous gossip about her to Xie Shi, is infuriating. But there’s a twisted enjoyment in witnessing Xie Shi set her straight, and I can’t wait to see more of that confrontation unfold.
