Episode 23 Recap: Confessions, Chaos, and a Drunken Domino Effect

This episode of Smile Code delivered on all fronts—heartfelt confessions, romantic chaos, and enough comedic moments to keep us laughing (and cringing) all the way through. Let’s dive into the drama-packed rollercoaster:

Xu Guanrui’s “Perfect Confession” Goes Awry

Xu Guanrui finally made his move, calling Gu Yi to pick up some “urgent express delivery” while conveniently mentioning his injured back. But the real package? A starry-sky confession meticulously set up to win her heart.

What did Gu Yi do when faced with this romantic gesture? Think of Liang Daiwen, of course! 😅 She rejected Xu without hesitation, leaving him heartbroken and defeated. But Xu, ever the gentleman, assured Gu Yi that he’d always be by her side—even if it was just as an older brother. Talk about unrequited love served with grace.

Liang Daiwen Steps Into the Spotlight (Literally)

While Xu was nursing his heartbreak, Liang Daiwen went all in. He introduced Gu Yi to his team, openly declaring his feelings for her in front of everyone. Cue the collective gasp (and a massive dose of dog food) as Liang shone on stage, dazzling the reporters with his innovative ideas and charisma.

Gu Yi couldn’t help but feel a little awestruck—and maybe a little overwhelmed—by Liang’s newfound confidence and openness.

Drunk Liang Daiwen and the Robot CEO Act

After his successful presentation, Liang returned to find his room covered in rose petals (thanks to his cheeky assistant, who claimed it was “for Gu Yi”). To muster up some courage, Liang hit the wine, transforming into what can only be described as Drunk Robot CEO Mode.

Highlights of Liang’s drunken antics include:

  • Declaring he’s a “robot with thoughts and emotions.”
  • Tracing Gu Yi’s eyebrows with intense concentration.
  • Using a wine bottle as a pretend phone to call... Gu Yi.
  • Warning her not to accept Xu Guanrui’s confession (as if that ship hadn’t already sailed).

Gu Yi, caught between laughing and facepalming, could barely handle his tipsy attempts at romantic heroics.

Earthy Love Lines and a Halfway Kiss

In classic Liang Daiwen fashion, he didn’t stop there. He whisked Gu Yi away to a restaurant and dropped so many earthy love lines that even the diners joined in with excited cheers. Despite the embarrassment, Gu Yi started to notice Liang’s genuine efforts to change—whether it was writing letters to himself or searching for joy in life.

Just as things heated up and they shared a romantic moment, Liang managed to fall asleep mid-kiss. A true king of timing. 👑

Gu Yi’s Public Heartache and Liang’s Realization

Back on stage, Gu Yi turned her heartbreak into comedy gold, joking about her “love illness” in a way that had the audience laughing—but Liang sitting in the crowd feeling deeply guilty. After the show, he chased her down to apologize, only for Gu Yi to open up about her true pain.

She wasn’t angry about the breakup; she was devastated by the lack of security, the feeling of being discarded like a “garbage bag.” Hearing her words, Liang finally broke down in tears, fully understanding the weight of his actions.

Professional Wins, Personal Woes

Amid all the romantic chaos, Gu Yi became the number one editor-in-chief, proving once again that she’s a boss when it comes to work. However, she reflected on how love isn’t something to take lightly, vowing to be more cautious moving forward.

Meanwhile, Zhang Junjie stumbled into the subplot drunk out of his mind, hugging two women on the street. Gu Yi, not knowing where he lived or how to handle him, was left in yet another hilariously awkward situation.

Episode 25 Recap: Love Confessions, Family Secrets, and Drunken Chaos

This episode had it all—awkward family bonding, messy drunken escapades, and love confessions that left us breathless (and maybe laughing a little). Let’s break it down:

Liang Daiwen Learns a Lesson from Gu Yi’s Mom

Liang Daiwen had an emotional heart-to-heart with Gu Yi’s mom, confessing that his careless words once made Gu Yi feel like he saw her as nothing more than a pet cat. Gu Yi’s mom, finally understanding why her daughter hadn’t forgiven Liang, didn’t hold back in calling him out.

Yet, seeing his simplicity and vulnerability, she began to see that Liang wasn’t all bad. In fact, she realized he was someone her daughter could trust—if only he could get out of his own way.

Zhang Junjie: Drunken Disaster Extraordinaire

Meanwhile, Gu Yi and Yu Dule had the unfortunate task of dragging a completely wasted Zhang Junjie to a talk show. Zhang was a hot mess—vomiting, crying about having no friends, and passing out on a chair. Just when Gu Yi and Yu were ready to lose their minds, Mr. Huang swooped in like a knight (or maybe just a fed-up coworker) and carted Zhang off.

Drunken Karaoke and Family Feels

Returning home, Gu Yi stumbled upon a sight she didn’t expect: her mom and Liang Daiwen, drunk and belting out karaoke songs together. The scene was chaotic yet heartwarming, and Gu Yi couldn’t help but smile. Liang, feeling playful and sentimental, kept calling himself a “robot” while chatting happily with her mom.

When Liang leaned on Gu Yi’s shoulder, she felt a pang of complicated emotions. Could this be the start of her softening toward him again?

Zhang Junjie’s Heartbreak

After sobering up, Zhang Junjie had to face his ex-husband, and things got intense. While the two clearly still cared for each other, Zhang couldn’t move past the pain of a forced abortion and his controlling mother-in-law. Tears flowed as he walked away, determined to leave the past behind, even if it hurt.

Guan Xingxin’s Family Drama

Things weren’t much better for Guan Xingxin, whose controlling adoptive parents refused to let her leave the house. Though they didn’t outright forbid her, their oppressive behavior left her with no choice but to stay. The tension between freedom and obligation simmered in her story, adding another emotional layer to the episode.

Gu Yi’s Mom’s Hidden Pain

Gu Yi’s mom went for a check-up, learning that her condition had worsened—she had only six months left. Determined not to let her daughter know, she soldiered on, even treating herself to a pair of high heels in a bittersweet moment of self-care.

Rainy Streets and Liang Daiwen’s Confession

On her way home, Gu Yi was surprised to find Liang waiting for her in the pouring rain. The two walked together, and Gu Yi couldn’t help but notice how much Liang had changed. He was more open, expressive, and willing to show vulnerability.

Out of nowhere, Liang confessed his feelings to Gu Yi. She was stunned, especially when he reassured her he had promised her mom not to make any sudden moves. It was a turning point for Liang, finally stepping up and saying what was in his heart.

A Mother’s Plan and Liang’s Determination

Gu Yi’s mom revealed her plans to transfer the house to Gu Yi before heading back to the Northeast. Gu Yi felt something was off but still hadn’t pieced together her mom’s secret illness. When Liang heard they were leaving, he playfully tried to tag along, only to be rejected.

In true Liang fashion, he called Gu Yi’s mom for backup. Her “bloodline suppression” worked like a charm, and Gu Yi reluctantly agreed to let Liang join them.

DramaZen's Opinion

Opinion of Smile Code (2024)

The last two episodes of Smile Code were an emotional whirlwind, and I am living for the drama, the heartbreak, and the messy, messy love! These episodes had me laughing at the chaos, tearing up at the sweet moments, and side-eyeing Liang Daiwen as he finally tried to get his act together.

Let’s talk about Liang Daiwen. He’s still the emotionally stunted man-child we know and love to yell at, but he’s finally stepping up! His heartfelt chat with Gu Yi’s mom gave me hope—especially when he admitted how badly he’d screwed up with Gu Yi (seriously, comparing her to a cat?! No wonder she’s still mad). Seeing him trying to make amends, even if clumsily, made my heart ache a little for him.

And then there’s his confession in the rain! My hopeless romantic heart melted. Watching him walk with Gu Yi, open up about his feelings, and promise her mom to be on his best behavior? A+ effort, my guy. But did you have to call in her mom to guilt-trip her into letting you tag along to the Northeast? Classic Liang move. 😂

Gu Yi continues to be my everything. From managing her mom’s secrets to juggling her complicated feelings for Liang, she’s a whole mood. Her reaction to finding Liang drunk and singing karaoke with her mom? Priceless. I would’ve been so embarrassed, but she just rolled with it like a pro. That’s growth.

Her vulnerability in the last two episodes really hit me. It’s clear she’s still hurt by Liang, but she can’t help being drawn to him. The way she dodged his advance during their rainy walk was so telling—she’s torn between protecting herself and giving in to her feelings. I’m rooting for her to find happiness, whether that’s with Liang or someone else (but let’s be real, we’re all shipping them at this point).

Oh, Xu Guanrui, you deserve so much better. Watching him comfort Gu Yi while knowing she’ll never love him the way he loves her? It’s tragic. He’s always there, being the supportive and caring friend, but she’s too busy getting swept up in Liang’s storm to notice. I just hope he finds someone who appreciates him because he’s an absolute gem.

Gu Yi’s mom broke my heart. Knowing she’s terminally ill but still putting on a brave face to support her daughter and quietly making plans for her future? It’s so bittersweet. Her bond with Liang is surprisingly touching—seeing her try to help him win Gu Yi back while hiding her own pain just shows how much she loves her daughter. I’m not ready for what’s coming, and I know it’s going to wreck me.

Zhang Junjie’s drunken antics were hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. Watching him cry about his past and lash out at his ex while Gu Yi and Yu Dule tried to hold it together was pure chaos. And Guan Xingxin’s family drama? Whew, her adoptive parents are next level controlling. I’m so glad she’s starting to push back, but it’s clear she still has a long road ahead.

These episodes were a rollercoaster of emotions. From Liang’s awkward but earnest attempts to reconnect with Gu Yi to the bittersweet moments with her mom, Smile Code has me hooked. The balance between heartfelt drama and comedic chaos is what makes this show so special.

I’m excited (and terrified) to see where things go next. Will Gu Yi finally forgive Liang? Will Xu Guanrui get a chance at happiness? And what’s going to happen with Gu Yi’s mom?
