Episode 3 Recap: Chaos, Cats, and Cohabitation

Things are heating up in Smile Code as Gu Yi and Liang Daiwen’s worlds collide in the most unexpected ways! From awkward misunderstandings to surprising invitations, this episode had it all—humor, heart, and just the right amount of tension. Let’s break it down!

A Chaotic Rescue Mission

After Gu Yi’s drunken escapades, Liang Daiwen gallantly carries her home—only to discover her living situation is far from ideal. The sketchy vibe of her place raises all his alarms, so he takes matters into his own hands, bringing Gu Yi back to his friend’s house to spend the night.

Back at his place, Liang is surprisingly flustered, catching himself staring into the mirror and wondering why this whirlwind of a woman is suddenly messing with his meticulously ordered life. For someone who “doesn’t feel,” this sure looks a lot like feeling.

Morning-After Embarrassment

When Gu Yi wakes up, her friend Guan Xingxin spills the tea: Liang Daiwen brought her home, but not without drama. Mortified by her behavior the night before, Gu Yi resolves to be a bit more…dignified (as if that’s possible with her level of chaotic energy).

Meanwhile, Guan Xingxin has her own theory: Liang Daiwen might just be into Gu Yi. Gu Yi brushes it off, but the blush on her cheeks says otherwise.

Risky Business and Head Pats

When Gu Yi crosses paths with Liang Daiwen again, the awkwardness is palpable. Trying to clear the air, she hesitantly asks if he sent her home and if she did anything too crazy. Liang shrugs it off, saying it was no big deal—until some passersby startle him. Gu Yi, ever the improvisor, pats his head like he’s a scared kitten, telling him not to worry. For a man who doesn’t smile, he sure seems… softer?

The Great Roommate Debacle

Gu Yi invites Liang Daiwen to her place again, but her eccentric roommates immediately send up red flags. Liang, ever the problem-solver, whips out his phone to record the scene like he’s gathering evidence for a crime report. Gu Yi drags him to her messy room, furiously tidying up as she vents about her frustrating living conditions.

That’s when Liang drops the bombshell: he decides on the spot that Gu Yi shouldn’t live there anymore. He offers to help her move out and even suggests she stay at his place. Gu Yi is stunned—and maybe a little impressed.

Moving Day Shenanigans

Liang arrives with a moving truck so large it looks like Gu Yi’s moving to another country rather than down the street. Confused but grateful, she accepts his help, wondering if Liang’s brain is wired like a hyper-efficient computer chip.

When Gu Yi finally steps into Liang’s home, she’s hit with a wave of surprises: the place is pristine, filled with specimens (creepy yet cool), and absolutely crawling with adorable cats. The man who seemed so rigid has a surprisingly warm side! But his bedroom? Cold and eerie, like a scene out of a minimalist horror film. Gu Yi starts to piece together the puzzle of Liang Daiwen—obsessive, mysterious, and secretly kind.

The Odd Couple Begins

Gu Yi quickly adjusts to her new living arrangement, though Liang’s quirks take some getting used to. He’s worried she might find him too strange, but Gu Yi surprises him by embracing his oddities. Meanwhile, Laila has her own subplot brewing, as her ex-husband stirs trouble online, leaving her furious. Drama’s afoot, but for now, the spotlight is on the hilariously mismatched pair under one roof.

Episode 4 Recap: Chaos, Tears, and Unexpected Connections

This episode of Smile Code cranked up the drama, blending tense moments, heartfelt revelations, and even a touch of humor. Relationships were tested, secrets revealed, and hearts left a little more vulnerable. Here’s what went down:

Online Drama and the Female Demon’s Glow-Up

Gu Yi witnesses a fiery online scandal involving Laila, who’s being unfairly attacked while a crowd watches. Guan Xingxin also becomes collateral damage in the drama. At work, Zhang Junjie—the fierce “female demon” Gu Yi once feared—unexpectedly steps in, ripping down nasty stickers and urging colleagues to focus on work.

Gu Yi is stunned. Could this be the same Zhang Junjie? For the first time, she sees a warm, protective side to her, almost as if the “female demon” is glowing with fiery compassion. It’s a moment of solidarity no one saw coming.

Tears and Misunderstandings

Meanwhile, Liang Daiwen checks in on Laila, who’s clearly shaken by the incident. When he assures her she’s not to blame, Laila breaks down in tears, confessing that she was deceived into a relationship with a married man. Now single, she feels unfairly judged.

Guan Xingxin, ever blunt, admits she never intended to hurt Laila, and the two reach a fragile understanding. Could this be the start of healing between them?

Gu Yi's Talk Show Time-Out

Gu Yi gets sidelined when she’s temporarily banned from performing after a mishap involving someone else’s video. The night’s talk show is canceled, and Gu Yi’s spirits sink. Liang Daiwen, in his usual understated way, reassures her that he and Laila are not romantically involved—just in case Gu Yi was wondering. Gu Yi is stunned into silence, but a call from her mom, Da Meixia, breaks the tension. A reminder of her mother’s love fills her with fresh hope.

Heart-to-Heart with Liang Daiwen

Later, Gu Yi packs her things for a short trip home and accidentally takes a tumble. Liang Daiwen rushes to her side, showing genuine concern. As they chat, Gu Yi opens up about her parents’ divorce and her mother’s relentless hard work to support her. Liang listens intently but grows visibly distant—her story has triggered his own painful childhood memories.

Liang’s quiet vulnerability hints at a deeper connection between them, one built on mutual scars and unspoken understanding.

Back Home and New Perspectives

At home, Gu Yi discovers her mom is seeing someone new, He Yongjun. Gu Yi doesn’t mind, as long as her mom is chasing happiness. Meanwhile, Liang visits his psychiatrist, admitting he’s fascinated by a certain girl (cough Gu Yi cough). The doctor warns him not to idealize love or he could hurt himself—and her.

Gu Yi’s home visit is short-lived, as her mom tries setting her up on yet another blind date. Back at Liang’s, things take a humorous turn when Gu Yi secretly records him, only to be hilariously caught in the act. Her embarrassment only grows as her dreams later feature… you guessed it, Liang Daiwen.

Supermarket Shenanigans and Subtle Sparks

While Gu Yi juggles her growing attraction to Xu Guanrui at work, Liang quietly obsesses over an indigo bowl at the supermarket, which somehow feels all wrong to him. The waiter finds it amusing, but Liang’s peculiarities just make him more endearing in Gu Yi’s eyes. The cracks in Liang’s stoic exterior widen as Gu Yi begins to see the beauty in his quirks—and perhaps in him.

A Glimpse Into Liang Daiwen’s Past

The episode closes with a poignant reveal: Liang’s seemingly icy demeanor hides a traumatic childhood, filled with terrible nightmares that haunt him to this day. It’s a gut-punch of a moment that explains so much about his reserved nature and leaves us aching to see if Gu Yi can bring light to his dark past.

Sparks and Specimens

Gu Yi and Liang Daiwen’s dynamic is electric, and their cohabitation promises endless hilarity and heartfelt moments. With cats, clashing personalities, and a few lingering mysteries, these episodes set the stage for a deeper dive into both characters’ pasts—and maybe their hearts.

This had it all: messy emotions, endearing quirks, and the kind of character growth that keeps you hooked. With Gu Yi starting to see Liang in a new light and Liang struggling to navigate his feelings, their connection grows deeper with every moment.

There are so many questions floating around in my mind after watching up to this point....

Will Liang’s cold exterior melt further under Gu Yi’s chaotic charm? And can Gu Yi thrive in the carefully ordered world of Liang Daiwen?

Will Gu Yi’s chaotic charm finally thaw Liang’s icy walls? And what about Xu Guanrui—could he be competition in this blossoming romance?
