Smile Code- Episodes 7-8
Episode 7 Recap: Sleepwalking, Amusement Parks, and Unlikely Bonds
This episode of Smile Code was packed with surprises, from heartfelt revelations to hilarious antics at an amusement park. With Liang Daiwen’s mysterious sleepwalking, Gu Yi’s relentless charm, and some laugh-out-loud moments, here’s the breakdown of the chaos:
Liang Daiwen’s Sleepwalking Secrets
Liang Daiwen finally opens up to Gu Yi about his sleepwalking episodes, blaming it on childhood trauma and too much pressure. He admits he avoids doctors, thanks to a deep-seated fear of hospitals. And, of course, his sharp-tongued friend Lao Shen jokingly chalks it up to his “venomous mouth.” Classic Lao Shen.
Gu Yi, ever the curious soul, asks who Liang dreams about when sleepwalking. But Liang evades the question and excuses himself, leaving her even more intrigued. She’s convinced there’s more to this mystery, but for now, she lets it slide.
Kitten Scratches and Shining Stars
When Gu Yi gets scratched by a kitten, Liang steps in with medicine—and a forehead touch to check her temperature. Cue Gu Yi blushing furiously but secretly delighted. Liang, for his part, can’t help but admire how confident and radiant she looks on stage, even if he’s too reserved to say it outright.
Street Fights and Arrests
Meanwhile, Yu Dule jumps to Guan Xingxin’s defense after overhearing people mock her on the street. The scuffle lands them both in trouble, and soon Uncle Hat (aka the cops) intervenes. Enter Liang Daiwen and Gu Yi, who arrive to bail them out. Gu Yi cheekily suggests Liang play “lawyer” to intimidate the bullies, but her plan hilariously flops when Liang misses her not-so-subtle hints.
A Thoughtful Gift and More Sleepwalking Shenanigans
Determined to help with Liang’s sleepwalking, Gu Yi gifts him an electronic watch to track his movements. But one night, she finds him mid-sleepwalking again, this time putting on shoes in the middle of the night. Gu Yi cleverly coaxes him back to bed, but not before Liang dramatically collapses and falls asleep on the floor. As she covers him with a blanket, Gu Yi can’t help but think how ridiculously handsome he looks—even when he’s passed out.
Talk Show Troubles and Liang’s Quiet Support
Gu Yi has a rough day on stage, and Liang picks up on her frustration. Feeling responsible, he awkwardly pretends to smile to encourage her. Though his grin is stiff at best, the gesture warms Gu Yi’s heart. Later that night, Liang insists on walking her home, an act of kindness that doesn’t go unnoticed.
Operation Amusement Park: A Wild Plan
Guan Xingxin suggests Gu Yi shake up Liang’s life with some fresh and thrilling experiences. Her idea? Drag the unflappable Liang to an amusement park. Gu Yi loves the idea and ropes Liang into the plan, promising nothing too wild. But once they’re there, the real fun begins.
Gu Yi and Guan Xingxin scream their heads off on the giant pendulum ride, but Liang? Completely unfazed. His stoic demeanor is so unshakable it’s almost comedic, as if he’s an observer rather than a participant. While Gu Yi and Guan Xingxin are left breathless and laughing, Liang remains expressionless, cementing his role as the ultimate enigma.
Episode 8 Recap: Popcorn, Fireworks, and Confessions
This episode was a whirlwind of emotions, laughs, and some unexpected twists. From amusement park antics to heartfelt conversations and even a chaotic candlelight dinner, Smile Code delivered yet another unforgettable episode. Let’s dive into the highlights!
Amusement Park Antics
After a thrilling ride, Gu Yi was completely drained, unlike the ever-energetic Guan Xingxin, who pushed for more activities. Gu Yi, overwhelmed, decided to sit this one out and let the others continue. Surprisingly, Liang Daiwen left without a word, only to return moments later with a bucket of popcorn for Gu Yi.
Touched by his gesture, Gu Yi realized that beneath Liang’s stoic exterior was someone who cared in his own awkward way. Meanwhile, Yu Dule tried to give flowers to Guan Xingxin, who, though hesitant due to past heartbreaks, responded with a warm smile that hinted at hope.
Smiles, Ice Cream, and Straight-Man Shenanigans
Gu Yi challenged Liang Daiwen to smile, only for him to deliver a stiff, hilariously "murderous" grin. Gu Yi couldn’t help but laugh and offered to teach him, but Liang, ever the blunt straight man, complimented her beauty instead and smeared ice cream on her face. Gu Yi was left exasperated, thinking straight men truly have a knack for cluelessness.
Candlelight Dinner Disaster
In an attempt to be romantic, Gu Yi prepared a candlelight dinner for Liang Daiwen. She even prayed over the flowers, but her dreamy evening quickly turned into chaos when the candles set the flowers—and nearly everything else—on fire. Liang walked in on the disaster, finding Gu Yi hilariously frazzled yet undeniably charming.
As they cleaned up, Liang shared a rare glimpse into his past, revealing that his previous relationships ended because he believed he couldn’t make anyone happy. He admitted that Gu Yi was the only person who felt different—but his words were tinged with sadness, leaving Gu Yi wondering if she was truly special to him.
Mixed Signals and Emotional Turmoil
Gu Yi, confused by Liang’s response, told him she might move out to avoid the awkwardness of unspoken feelings. Liang’s heart raced at the thought but, true to form, he struggled to express his emotions. Meanwhile, Xu Guanrui dropped by with breakfast to test Gu Yi’s feelings for Liang, only for her to nervously brush it off, calling them "comrades-in-arms."
Understanding Liang’s Emotional Struggles
Gu Yi sought out Liang’s psychiatrist to learn more about his condition. Lao Shen explained that Liang’s emotional disorder stemmed from traumatic experiences, leaving him emotionally disconnected and guarded. Though Gu Yi didn’t press for more details, she understood that Liang’s healing would take time.
What she didn’t realize was that Liang had been eavesdropping the entire time. Hearing her efforts to understand him left him both confused and touched.
Sleepwalking and Subtle Confessions
Gu Yi dreamed that Liang jumped off a building, only to wake up and find him sleepwalking outside. She tried to coax him back inside, but he collapsed and fell asleep on the spot. Liang’s internal battle continued as he wrestled with whether to accept or reject Gu Yi’s growing feelings for him.
Gu Yi, determined to figure things out, sought advice from Guan Xingxin, who cheekily suggested that sometimes, dealing with men requires “men’s methods.” Whatever that means, Gu Yi seemed ready to take action.
Talk Show Tension and a One-Month Deal
At her talk show, Gu Yi confronted Liang, asking if he was happy to see her leave. Liang hesitated, torn between his feelings and his fear of causing her unhappiness. Gu Yi struck a deal: she would stay for one more month. Reluctantly, Liang agreed, leaving their future hanging in the balance.
DramaZen's Opinion
I have to commend Gu Yi for her determination to bring warmth and emotion into Liang’s guarded world. From thoughtful gifts to bold amusement park stunts, her efforts to break through his walls are equal parts touching and hilarious. Meanwhile, Liang’s small gestures of care hint at a budding connection, even if he’s too stiff to admit it.
I'm still left wondering will Gu Yi’s attempts to wake up Liang’s emotions finally succeed. I have a feeling he is going to continue fighting the flow of things and keep himself gaurded. It's all too new for him and despite wanting to be a part of Gu Yi's world, Liang will still box himself off.
Episode 8 continues to balance humor and heartfelt moments beautifully, with Gu Yi’s relentless optimism clashing against Liang’s emotional walls. Their growing connection is complicated, messy, and oh-so-captivating.
Liang listening in on Gu Yi's session with Lao Shan is point in case that he refuses to open up and see that he is growing feelings for her. I agree with the psychiatrist, if he doesn't want to leave a bad impression than don't lead poor Gu Yi on. I forsee her being crushed by his indifference at some point soon. 😢
