Sorry Not Sorry- Episode 8
This week’s episode of Sorry Not Sorry was all about revelations, understanding, and a long-overdue family showdown. Song-yi had to confront her past, Hyun-woo had a front-row seat to her messy life, and our favorite trio of friends showed us once again why they are the heart of this show. Let’s dive in!
We pick up right where we left off, with Hyun-woo waking up in Song-yi’s bed… in her clothes. His horror at realizing this is only made worse when he tries to sneak out, only to be met by Song-yi’s parents and Chan-yang at the door. (I nearly screamed for him!) Turns out, Hyun-woo had thrown up on himself and Song-yi the night before, which explains his, um, fashion choice.
Song-yi’s parents aren’t just surprised to see Hyun-woo—they’re also shocked to learn that Eun-gyu is back in Korea. Their mother immediately jumps into interrogation mode, demanding to know why they weren’t informed. Quick on her feet, Eun-gyu spins a lie about being back for their mom’s 60th birthday. Song-yi, ever the peacekeeper, rolls with it. (It’s becoming increasingly clear why Song-yi avoids conflict—her mom is intense.)
Before Hyun-woo can fully escape, Song-yi’s mom takes a keen interest in him and even invites him to her surprisebirthday party. Song-yi’s attempts to clarify that they aren’t together fall on deaf ears. Hyun-woo handles it well, though, revealing that his own mother constantly signs him up for divorcee dating programs. (The mom pressure is real in this show!)
Just as Song-yi is trying to move forward, her ex-husband decides to make a grand reappearance. Drunk and pathetic, he shows up at her apartment, whining about how his recent breakup made him realize she was “the only one he had.” (Excuse me while I roll my eyes.) Song-yi isn’t fooled—she immediately calls out his nonsense, realizing he’s only here because he got dumped by someone way out of his league. Bye, loser!
But things escalate at Song-yi’s mom’s birthday party when the ex-husband has the audacity to show up again. To make matters worse, he puts on a whole dramatic performance for her parents, begging for another chance. Song-yi’s parents, clueless about the real reason for their divorce, actually consider it. (Seriously, Mom and Dad?!)
And just when I was about to scream at my screen, Hyun-woo swoops in like the absolute king he is. Not only does he stand up for Song-yi, but he also confirms in front of her parents that her ex’s affair was legally proven in court. FINALLY, the truth comes out, and the look on Song-yi’s dad’s face? Pure rage. He nearly throttles the ex, who—being the coward he is—flees the scene.
With the ex finally out of the picture (good riddance!), it’s time for another revelation. Eun-gyu finally tells her parents the truth—she’s back in Korea for good. And the reason she didn’t tell them? Because of how they’ve treated Song-yi. This moment is powerful, as it forces their mother to reflect on her impossibly high expectations.
In a surprising turn, their mother admits that she only sets such high standards because she thinks her daughters are amazing and deserve the best. It’s a breakthrough moment for this complicated family, and it feels like a weight has been lifted from everyone’s shoulders.
Meanwhile, Hyun-woo, ever the protector, reassures Song-yi that her ex won’t be bothering her anymore—because he threatened him with a restraining order. (This man is perfection.) And just to top it off, he even offers to switch apartments with her if the ex ever comes back. (A lawyer and a gentleman?!)
While Song-yi is dealing with ex-husband drama, Hana gets tangled in a situation of her own. After purchasing a scooter for her twins online, she realizes she’s been scammed. Furious, she, Song-yi, and Chan-yang track down the seller, ready for a showdown. But when they arrive, they don’t find a scam artist—they find a struggling mother of three, overwhelmed and exhausted.
Instead of staying angry, Hana softens, realizing that she’s been in that woman’s shoes before. The three friends step in, cleaning her house, doing her laundry, and even buying her groceries. This moment is a testament to their friendship and growth—while this show is so much fun, it also knows how to hit us with genuine, heartfelt moments.
DramaZen's Opinion
OMG, this episode had me on a rollercoaster of emotions! First of all, Song-yi’s ex needs to never show his face again. The audacity of this man! I was screaming when Hyun-woo walked in and shut him down like the boss that he is. FINALLY, someone stood up for our girl properly!
Also, Hyun-woo offering to switch apartments? THE BARE MINIMUM IS IN HELL, AND YET I AM SWOONING. I love how he just gets Song-yi now. They are so natural together, and I need them to stop flirting with my feelings and just admit they like each other already!
Hana’s storyline was another highlight for me—seeing her go from rage to understanding was so touching. And the friendship between Song-yi, Hana, and Chan-yang continues to be one of the best parts of this drama.
All in all, this episode was everything I wanted and more. Bring on Episode 9—I am READY for more Hyun-woo and Song-yi moments! 💕🔥
