Chapter 122 - Jealousy and Joy

The warm afternoon light filtered through the nursery window, casting a golden glow over Andrew as he worked on his laptop. The sound of Eva’s exasperated voice caught his attention.

“Oh my goodness, Eve, you are so stubborn,” Eva sighed, her voice tinged with fatigue as their baby girl wailed in her arms.

“What happened to my little baby girl?” Andrew asked, his tone gentle as he closed his laptop and approached Eva.

“She’s just being a bit fussy,” Eva replied, bouncing Eve softly in her arms. “Can you take Anthony while I try to settle her?” she asked, exhaustion evident in her voice.

Andrew obliged, lifting their baby boy from his crib and cradling him carefully. Eva, meanwhile, began breastfeeding Eve. The little girl quieted almost instantly, her cries replaced with contented suckling. Eva let out a deep sigh of relief as her eyes began to drift shut.

“She sure was hungry,” Andrew chuckled softly, watching his wife and daughter with admiration.

Moments later, Andrew noticed Eva had fallen asleep. Moving with care, he tried to gently take Eve from her arms without waking her. But the moment he did, Eva’s eyes snapped open in panic.

“Eve,” she called out, looking around frantically.

“It’s okay, Angel. I have her,” Andrew said soothingly. “You’re exhausted. Get some sleep.”

“I still have to feed Anthony,” Eva said, already standing to reach for their son.

Andrew frowned, his expression darkening slightly. “Don’t feed him the same way as Eve,” he said coldly.

“What?” Eva asked, her brow furrowing in confusion. Realization dawned on her as she noticed the jealous glint in Andrew’s eyes. “Andrew, you can’t seriously be jealous of your own son,” she said, her tone both exasperated and amused. “Don’t be ridiculous. Now, go rock your daughter to sleep.”

Before Andrew could respond, a knock sounded at the door. Eva quickly buttoned her shirt as Vanessa stepped inside.

“What’s going on in here?” Vanessa asked, her sharp eyes picking up on the tension in the room.

“Mom, he told me not to breastfeed Anthony,” Eva said, her frustration spilling over.

Vanessa’s eyes widened before a knowing chuckle escaped her lips. “Like father, like son,” she said, shaking her head. “Andrew, don’t be stupid. Anthony is just a baby. Eva will only need to breastfeed him until he’s around two years old. Then your wife will be all yours again.”

Andrew scowled at his mother. “My son, you’ve won for now,” he thought begrudgingly.

“Mom, look at him glaring at his own son,” Eva said, her voice laced with incredulity.

“Andrew,” Vanessa warned, her tone stern as Nora, Eva’s mother, joined them.

“Give me Anthony,” Nora said, extending her arms toward Andrew. Reluctantly, Andrew handed over his son. Nora cooed softly to the baby as Vanessa shared an amused glance with Eva.

“Andrew reminds me so much of his father,” Vanessa said to Eva. “When Andrew was born, Leonard would actually scold him as a two-month-old baby. And with Alex, it was even worse.”

“It’s not that he doesn’t love the baby,” Nora added with a smile. “He’s just jealous.”

Eva nodded, sitting in a rocking chair with Anthony and beginning to feed him. “He’ll just have to get used to it,” she said pointedly, her voice loud enough for Andrew to hear. “My son will not starve because his father is childish.”

Andrew huffed but said nothing, returning to where Eve lay peacefully in her crib. Gently rocking her, he muttered under his breath, “It’s only two years. I can handle this.”

Meanwhile, Alex had taken Ariana to a secluded place, her eyes blindfolded. The sound of the car stopping and the gentle rustle of leaves heightened her anticipation.

“Alex, where are we?” she asked, curiosity piqued.

“Patience, little devil,” Alex said, a grin in his voice as he guided her carefully inside.

When he removed the blindfold, Ariana gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. “Alex!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with shock and delight.

The room was transformed into a romantic haven. A massive portrait of her hung on one wall, surrounded by roses and the soft glow of candlelight. Alex took her hands and knelt before her, his eyes filled with love and vulnerability.

“Do you like it?” he asked, his smile tender.

“Yes,” she squealed, her voice trembling with emotion. “It’s so beautiful. I have no words.”

Alex reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, revealing a dazzling diamond ring. “Ariana, you complete me. Without you, I’d be completely lost. Will you marry me?”

Ariana’s tears spilled over as she nodded. “Yes, I will,” she said, her voice breaking with happiness.

Alex rose to his feet, pulling her into his arms and holding her tightly. “You’ve made me the happiest man alive,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“You are my light, Alex,” Ariana said, her hands cupping his face as she kissed him deeply. “I love you.”

“I love you too, little devil,” Alex replied, capturing her lips once more, their love filling the air around them.

In that moment, their journey together took a beautiful turn toward forever.
