The sun was setting over the Foster mansion, casting a golden glow across the expansive estate. Inside, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation. Today, the King family was arriving for a pre-wedding dinner. Camilla and Matthew Foster, along with their daughters, were preparing for the grand event. Jessica, as usual, was the center of attention, bustling around excitedly, while Eva sat quietly in her room, still recovering from the trauma of her accident.

"They’re here!" Camilla exclaimed, smoothing down her dress as she rushed to the front door, with Matthew right behind her.

The large oak doors swung open, revealing Leonard and Vanessa King, the parents of Andrew King, the wealthy and powerful CEO who Jessica was about to marry. Camilla’s face lit up as she extended her hand.

“Welcome! We’re so honored to have you here,” Camilla said warmly.

Vanessa smiled graciously and shook her hand. “Thank you, Camilla. It’s a pleasure. We’ve heard so much about your family.”

As the introductions continued, Vanessa looked around the room, noticing only Jessica bustling about. “Do you only have Jessica?” she asked curiously.

Matthew stepped in to explain. “No, we actually have four children—three daughters and a son. Our son is currently abroad for work.”

Vanessa nodded politely as Camilla called up the stairs, “Girls, come down! The Kings are here!”

Jessica was the first to hurry over before the others came down, greeting Leonard and Vanessa with an enthusiastic, “Hello! It’s so nice to finally meet you.” Her voice was sugary sweet, and she was all smiles, doing her best to make a good impression.

Just behind her, Eva appeared, moving much slower. She descended the stairs carefully, her steps soft and measured, as if every movement still caused her some discomfort. When she reached the bottom, she stood close to Matthew, her eyes glancing shyly at the King family.

Andrew’s younger sister, Irene, immediately recognized Eva. Her face lit up with excitement. “Oh my God, you’re Eva Foster! I’m such a huge fan of your voice! I saw your performance at the graduation event a few months ago. You were incredible!” Irene exclaimed.

Jessica’s expression soured instantly, rolling her eyes as Irene gushed over Eva. Noticing her sister's irritation, Eva quickly stepped in, her voice soft and humble. “Oh, I’m really not that special,” she said, her tone apologetic as she tried to downplay the compliment.

Andrew, who had been standing quietly beside his parents, finally took notice of Eva. His eyes narrowed slightly in surprise. He hadn’t realized Jessica had a sister—let alone someone as fragile and delicate as Eva. Her pale skin and tired eyes told a story of hardship, and it intrigued him more than he would’ve liked to admit.

Irene, still focused on Eva, stepped forward, her brow furrowed with concern. “You look pale. Are you okay?” she asked gently.

Eva forced a small smile. “I’m fine,” she replied softly.

Vanessa, overhearing the conversation, looked at her daughter. “How do you know Eva?”

Irene grinned. “I saw her perform at the event a few months ago. She has the kindest, sweetest voice. I’ve been a fan ever since. And she’s even kinder in person.” Irene’s admiration was clear, which only deepened the tension in Jessica’s stance.

Before the conversation could continue, Mia walked into the room with a glass of water and some medicine for Eva. “Here, sis,” Mia said as she handed the items to Eva, then turned to greet the King family.

Vanessa’s curiosity was piqued. “What happened to Eva?” she asked.

Matthew took a deep breath before answering. “Eva was in a car accident two months ago. She was in a coma for that entire time, and she just came back home a few days ago.” His voice was tinged with sorrow, remembering how close they came to losing her.

Irene’s eyes widened. “Two months? When did it happen? How?”

Eva’s voice was quiet as she explained. “It was the night of my graduation... after the performance. I was walking home.” The memory brought a shadow over her face.

Irene’s expression softened, recalling that night. “I remember... I saw you crying after the performance,” Irene said, and without a second thought, she crossed the room and wrapped Eva in a comforting hug. “You’re so strong, Eva. Everything’s going to be okay,” she whispered.

Eva blinked back tears, feeling both comforted and overwhelmed by Irene’s kindness.

The sight of Irene embracing Eva, along with the attention Eva was receiving, made Jessica’s blood boil. Without a word, she turned on her heel and stormed off to her room, slamming the door behind her.

Meanwhile, the King and Foster families continued to discuss wedding plans, though the tension lingered in the air. Mia and Irene began to bond, chatting easily, while Andrew remained distant, his thoughts elsewhere.

As the night wore on, Andrew noticed Jessica hadn’t returned. Excusing himself, he wandered through the mansion in search of her. Eventually, he saw a shadowy figure standing alone on the balcony. Mistaking her for Jessica, Andrew walked up behind the woman, wrapped his arms around her, and whispered, “Baby, I’ve been searching everywhere for you.”

Eva froze, her breath catching in her throat. Before she could say anything, Andrew turned her around and pressed his lips against hers, kissing her deeply.

It took her a moment to respond, but when she did, she pushed against his chest, trying to break free. Andrew immediately noticed something was wrong and pulled away. His eyes went wide with shock as he saw Eva’s tear-streaked face.

“I’m not Jessica,” Eva whispered, her voice trembling.

Andrew’s heart dropped. “Crap... I messed up,” he muttered to himself, stepping back. “I’m sorry,” he stammered before quickly walking away, leaving Eva standing on the balcony, her body shaking as she struggled to hold back tears.

Eva ran back inside, rushing to her room. She slammed the door behind her and collapsed onto her bed, burying her face in her pillow as sobs wracked her body. She couldn’t believe what had just happened. The man who was supposed to marry her sister had kissed her, thinking she was Jessica.

The evening continued as if nothing had happened, and soon, the King family said their goodbyes and left the Foster mansion. But the events of the night weighed heavily on both Eva and Andrew, neither of them knowing how to deal with the confusion and the emotions stirred up by their accidental encounter.
