Chapter 96 - Reckoning and Redemption

Andrew woke to find Eva clinging to him like a lifeline, her face buried in his chest. He smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face as the morning sunlight spilled through the curtains. His phone buzzed loudly on the nightstand, and Eva stirred, frowning in her sleep. Andrew picked up the call, irritation creeping into his tone as he answered.

"Andrew, where the hell are you?" Tristan's sharp voice barked through the receiver. "It’s already 9 AM! Everyone’s waiting. If you’re not here in 20 minutes, we’re proceeding without you."

Andrew glanced at the clock and cursed under his breath. Damn it, I overslept.

“Fine, I’ll be there,” he said curtly before Tristan hung up. He looked down at Eva, who had started to wake. “Sweetheart, it’s time to get up,” he said gently, stroking her hair.

“Just five more minutes,” she murmured, snuggling closer. Andrew chuckled, wishing he could indulge her but knowing he couldn’t.

“It’s already nine, and your brother’s threatening to go ahead with the plan without us. We need to get moving,” he said.

Eva’s eyes opened reluctantly. “Fine,” she groaned, sitting up slowly. Andrew watched her with a tender smile as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

“Shall I give you a bath?” Andrew teased, scooping her up into his arms.

“Absolutely not!” Eva squealed, wriggling free. “I’ll manage, thank you very much.” She bolted into the bathroom, locking the door behind her. Andrew laughed, shaking his head as he went to the guest bathroom to shower.

After a quick breakfast, Andrew and Eva arrived at the base. The tension in the air was palpable as the gathered family and allies waited for them. Matthew greeted Eva warmly, but her focus was laser-sharp.

“Where’s Camilla?” Eva asked, her tone icy.

Andrew led her down a long hallway to a locked room. He opened the door to reveal Camilla, tied to a chair. Her head lifted at the sound of the door creaking open, her cold eyes meeting Eva’s fiery gaze.

“Why did you do this?” Eva asked, her voice steady but her anger simmering beneath the surface.

Camilla smirked. “Do you think I owe you an explanation?”

“Then perhaps Jessica will,” Eva retorted. Andrew stepped forward, playing a video of Jessica’s torment in captivity. Camilla’s smug expression faltered.

“Are you ready to talk now?” Tristan’s voice rang out as he entered the room. His eyes darkened when Eva revealed Camilla’s involvement in their parents’ deaths.

“She killed them, Tristan. She took everything from us,” Eva said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Matthew appeared in the doorway, his face pale. “What…what do you mean?”

“She killed Papa and Mama,” Eva said, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Tristan’s fists clenched, and Matthew staggered back, his eyes wide with disbelief. “Camilla, tell me this isn’t true,” he said, his voice breaking.

Camilla laughed coldly. “Fine. I’ll tell you everything.”

Camilla’s confession was venomous and unapologetic. She revealed how jealousy of Nora Foster had consumed her. How she manipulated her way into the Foster family, seducing Matthew and marrying him after orchestrating Asher and Nora’s deaths. Her only regret was not killing Tristan and Eva to take everything for herself and Jessica.

Matthew’s face twisted in anguish as Camilla recounted her betrayal. When she finished, he slapped her with such force that she fell silent.

“You’re a monster,” he said, his voice trembling. “I shouldn’t have married you. You destroyed my family, my life.”

“Don’t act innocent, Matthew,” Camilla sneered. “You were weak. You let me in.”

Before Matthew could respond, a quiet voice spoke from the doorway. “I won’t be mad, Dad.”

Everyone turned to see Mia standing there, her tear-streaked face set with resolve. Camilla’s tears turned into a desperate plea. “Mia, my baby, help me.”

Mia’s expression hardened. “Stop with the act. You’ve never cared for me. You only ever cared about Jessica. I hate calling you my mother. I would have been happier if you’d never given birth to me.”

Matthew hugged Mia as she cried, whispering soothing words. “You’re right, Mia,” he said. “We don’t need her.”

Camilla’s pleas fell on deaf ears as Eva confronted her. “You killed my parents, Camilla. You tried to kill us. You deserve hell.”

Matthew’s sorrow turned to rage as Leonard revealed the truth about Tara Kane, his former love whom Camilla had tried to erase. “She’s alive,” Leonard said. “We saved her.”

Matthew’s grip on his emotions snapped. “Tara was my everything, and you took her from me,” he said coldly, pulling out a gun. “You don’t deserve to live.”

Camilla’s screams echoed as Matthew shot her through each hand before aiming for her heart. “You ruined everything,” he said as he fired the final shot. Camilla’s lifeless body slumped in the chair, and the room fell silent.
