Chapter 83 - Shadows of Vengeance

Andrew’s presence at the base was palpable, a storm of fury barely contained behind his cold, calculating exterior. He had just received word that Jessica had escaped, sending his plans into chaos. His jaw tightened as he ordered his men to scour every corner of the city to find her and the accomplice who had aided in her escape.

The room buzzed with tension. Evander, seething with frustration, slammed his fist into the wall. “How the hell did we lose her?” he growled.

“Evander, enough,” Tristan said sternly, though his voice carried a trace of his own frustration. “This isn’t the time to lose focus.”

Anthony entered the room, his calm demeanor standing in stark contrast to the chaos around him. “What’s going on?” he asked, taking in the scene.

Andrew turned to him, his expression grim as he relayed the events. Anthony listened intently, his sharp mind already working to piece together a solution. When Andrew finished, he turned to Evander. “Where’s Josh?”

Evander motioned toward the holding cells. “This way,” he said, leading Andrew and the others down a dimly lit hallway.

Josh sat slumped in a metal chair, his wrists tied behind him, his face a mask of blood and bruises. His eyes fluttered open as Andrew stepped into the cell, the ominous sound of his boots echoing on the concrete floor. The sight of Josh’s battered state didn’t faze Andrew—it only fueled his simmering anger.

Andrew’s eyes darted around the room, taking in the scene. “Who did this?” he demanded, his voice icy.

Tristan crossed his arms, his stance unyielding. “I did. He deserved worse.”

Andrew turned on him, grabbing him by the collar. “This was my business. Eva is my wife, my responsibility.”

Tristan shoved Andrew’s hands off and glared. “She’s my sister first. Anyone who hurts her pays by my hands.”

The two men stared each other down, their mutual fury evident, until finally, Andrew relented. He nodded once, an unspoken truce forming between them. They both had the same goal: to protect Eva.

Andrew turned his attention back to Josh, his eyes dark with menace. “How dare you touch my sweetheart,” he hissed, grabbing Josh by the hair and yanking his head back.

“Leave me alone! I was just following Jessica’s orders,” Josh stammered, his voice trembling.

Andrew scoffed. “So you’re nothing but a puppet.” He drove his fist into Josh’s face, the sickening crack of bone echoing in the room. Drawing a knife from his belt, Andrew held it up, the blade gleaming under the dim light. “These fingers,” he said, running the blade across Josh’s trembling hand, “these were the ones that touched her, right?”

Josh whimpered, his breaths coming in shallow gasps. “P-please…”

“Did you think you could get away with it?” Andrew sneered before stabbing the knife through Josh’s hand, pinning it to the chair. Josh’s screams filled the cell.

“She is Eva King!” Andrew bellowed, his voice reverberating with rage. “She is not for you to touch, to harm, or even to think about!”

Grabbing Josh by the throat, Andrew squeezed, watching as the man’s face turned red, his eyes bulging. “Beg for your life,” Andrew growled, his grip tightening.

Josh choked out a plea, his voice barely audible. “Please… spare me…”

Andrew released him with a shove, letting him gasp for air. “You don’t deserve mercy,” Andrew said, his voice low. “But I want you to suffer. Slowly.”

Leaving the cell, Andrew joined Tristan, Evander, and Anthony in the main room. They sat at a table scattered with playing cards, their casual game a stark contrast to the violent storm brewing in the shadows.

Andrew sat down, wiping blood from his hands with a cloth. “I have plans to lure out the mastermind,” he said, his voice steady despite the chaos in his mind.

Evander looked at him, raising an eyebrow. “Did you kill him?”

“No,” Andrew replied. “He deserves a slow death. Let him beg.”

The men nodded in understanding, returning to their discussion of the next steps. The camaraderie at the table was broken only by Andrew’s phone buzzing with a text from James: an update on Jessica’s whereabouts.

Andrew’s focus was shattered when one of the guards announced that Eva had arrived. He froze for a moment, his mind racing. Why is she here?

He rushed out to meet her, finding her standing at the entrance, her eyes wide and determined. “Eva,” he said, his voice softer than he intended. “Why are you here?”

“I need to speak with Josh,” she said firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Andrew hesitated, then pulled a chair over for her. “Sit here first,” he said, his eyes scanning her face for any sign of distress. “I’ll take care of it.”

Walking away, Andrew pulled Anthony aside and whispered, “Clean him up. Make sure there’s no blood, no traces of what I did to him. Eva can’t see him like that.”

Anthony sighed but nodded, heading off to the cell. Andrew returned to Eva, his heart heavy with the knowledge of how deeply her safety meant to him—and how far he was willing to go to protect her.
