Chapter 24 - A Nightmare Unfolds

Last Updated on 2024-10-10 19:26:00

The motel room door burst open with a violent swing, the sound echoing through the dingy hallway. Trevor’s enraged shout cut through the air, his voice filled with venom. “What the fxxx do you want?”

Connor’s gaze was fierce, his jaw set with determination. “Where is she?” he demanded, his voice a low growl.

Trevor’s confusion morphed into anger. “Who the hell are you?”

Connor’s lips curled into a menacing smile. “I’m your worst nightmare!”

Before Trevor could react, Connor’s fist flew through the air, connecting with Trevor’s jaw in a bone-jarring impact. Trevor’s head snapped back, his body following as he crashed to the floor, a grunt of pain escaping him.

Clutching his bloodied face, Trevor struggled to rise. “You’re going to pay for that,” he snarled, his rage palpable as he managed to stand.

Connor’s laughter was cold and mocking. “What’s a weakling like you going to do?”

Trevor lunged forward, his hands gripping the front of Connor’s shirt in a desperate attempt to retaliate. Connor was faster. His fist swung again, landing a solid blow to the side of Trevor’s head. The sickening crack of the impact filled the room, and Trevor crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

Connor stepped over Trevor’s prostrate body, his eyes locking onto the sight before him. His heart stopped. Wren lay tied to the bed, her clothes torn, her body marred with hickeys and bruises. Traces of blood smeared her skin, the evidence of Trevor’s brutal assault. The sight of her, vulnerable and broken, was almost too much to bear.

“Don’t look at me!” Wren cried, her voice cracking with shame and pain. “I don’t want you to see me like this.”

Connor’s anger burned hotter, but he forced himself to focus on her. He rushed to the bed, his hands shaking as he began to untie her. The red burn marks on her skin where the ropes had dug in filled him with a searing rage. “Don’t move,” he said softly but firmly. “I’m going to get you out of here. He won’t ever touch you again.”

The wail of sirens grew louder, signaling the arrival of the police. Wren’s tears flowed freely, her voice barely a whisper. “I didn’t want you to see this. I thought if I left, you could be happy.”

Connor’s heart ached at her words. “You leaving made me unhappy. I told you to stay with me. Be mine.”

Wren shook her head, her sobs uncontrollable. “How can I? Look at me. Why would you want me?”

Connor’s gaze was steady, filled with an unwavering resolve. “I am looking at you. All I see is a beautiful girl that I want for the rest of my life.”

“That can’t be true,” Wren whispered through her tears. “I’m covered in marks from that axxhole. I’m broken and used.”

“You are not used,” Connor said gently, his voice filled with conviction. “You just fell into the wrong hands. Now I’m here, and we can fix this together.”

Wren’s sobs deepened, her body shaking with the force of her emotions. Connor quickly found a sheet and wrapped it around her, his hands careful and tender. He lifted her into his arms, his strength and resolve unwavering as he carried her out of the room.

Outside, police officers were busy handcuffing the still-unconscious Trevor. An ambulance stood ready, its lights flashing, waiting to take Wren to the hospital.

A police officer approached Connor, his expression professional but sympathetic. “Sir… Miss… We’ll take him away and lock him up. Another officer will follow you to the hospital to get your statements.”

Connor nodded, his face set in a grim line. “Yes, officer.”

He climbed into the ambulance with Wren, his hand never leaving hers. As they drove to the hospital, the rhythmic hum of the ambulance was a dull backdrop to the intensity of the moment.

Wren’s voice was barely a whisper. “You didn’t have to come with me. Thank you for saving me.”

Connor’s grip tightened around her hand. “I’ll always save you and be there when you need me. I’m not going anywhere.”

Wren’s eyes, still brimming with tears, looked at him with a mix of gratitude and confusion. “Why?”

Connor glanced at her, his gaze steady and full of love. “What do you mean?”

“Why do you still want me?” Wren’s voice was a fragile murmur, her eyes searching his for answers.

“Because I love you,” Connor said softly, his words imbued with sincerity. “Flaws and all.”

Wren fell silent, her gaze fixed on him. The words hung in the air between them, a fragile promise of healing and hope as they journeyed towards an uncertain future.
