Chapter 7 - Healing Shadows

Wrapped in blankets on her bed, Wren had not left her room for an entire week. The once vibrant and lively girl now lay hidden from the world, her thoughts a swirl of confusion and pain. The only person who knew the full extent of what had happened was Stormi, her devoted friend and roommate. As soon as Stormi had brought her home from the resort, Wren had retreated behind her locked door, seeking refuge in isolation.

Every day, Stormi placed a tray of food outside the door, her worry palpable. Each day Wren ignored the meals, unable to muster the energy or will to eat. The fear and shame seemed to have a grip on her, making every attempt to engage with the world feel insurmountable.

Wren stared at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes drawn to the dark, bluish-purple bruises that marred her skin. They were grim reminders of that horrific night, each mark a painful echo of Trevor’s actions. The sight was almost too much to bear, and she had spent countless hours wrestling with her thoughts, trying to find a way to move past the trauma.

Lost in her reverie, a knock at her door jolted her from her thoughts.

“Wren, can you hear me?” Stormi’s voice was soft but firm. “Honey, please open up and let me inside. It’s been a week. You can’t keep shutting the world out.”

Wren recognized the truth in Stormi’s words. As much as she wanted to hide, she knew she needed to confront her reality. Gathering her resolve, she opened the door.

“Stormi…” she whispered, her voice cracking.

Stormi’s eyes filled with concern as she took in the sight of her friend. Without hesitation, she enveloped Wren in a tight hug.

“Oh, Wren,” Stormi murmured, her voice breaking. “You’ve lost too much weight. Let me help you. Please, let me feed you something.”

“I’m not hungry,” Wren replied softly, though her body ached for nourishment.

“Please, just try for me,” Stormi urged gently.

Wren nodded reluctantly and moved to the couch, settling down as Stormi headed to the kitchen. A few minutes later, Stormi returned with a tray of soup and juice.

“Try it,” Stormi encouraged. “Even if you only eat a little bit.”

Wren grasped the spoon with trembling hands, but Stormi could see the struggle in her eyes. She took the spoon from Wren’s grasp and gently lifted some soup to her friend’s lips.

“Here, honey,” Stormi said softly. “Let me help you.”

Wren swallowed the soup, the warmth providing a brief comfort. “Thank you,” she murmured.

After finishing half a bowl and sipping some juice, Wren lay back on the couch, resting her head in Stormi’s lap. Stormi ran her fingers soothingly through Wren’s hair, trying to offer as much comfort as she could.

“I know it’s hard,” Stormi said gently, “but you have to move forward. Come to class with me on Monday.”

Wren’s eyes were clouded with fear. “I’m scared.”

“I know,” Stormi reassured her. “But I’ll stay with you the entire time. Trevor will never be able to come close to you again.”

Wren’s worry was evident. “Are you sure it will be okay?”

Stormi nodded firmly. “I promise. Just stay with me.”

Wren hesitated, her thoughts drifting to their classes. “One of our classes isn’t the same. What if—”

“Shhh,” Stormi interrupted gently. “Stop worrying. Riley is in that class with you. He won’t let Trevor hurt you either.”

Wren’s eyes widened in alarm. “You can’t tell Riley what happened.”

Stormi nodded reassuringly. “We’ll just tell him you broke up with Trevor and that he won’t leave you alone. He doesn’t need to know the details.”

Wren’s face flushed with embarrassment. “I’d be too ashamed for him to know.”

Stormi’s expression softened. “It’s our secret. Don’t worry.”

With Stormi’s comforting presence and unwavering support, Wren felt a small flicker of hope. As difficult as it was, she began to realize that she wasn’t alone in this. The journey to healing would be long, but with Stormi by her side, she might just find the strength to face the future and reclaim her life.
