Chapter 57 - Romantic Evening

Last Updated on 2024-10-10 19:50:16

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the world, Wren stepped out of the resort wearing a soft yellow sundress that swayed gently with the evening breeze. The color was perfect, accentuating her bright eyes and the soft waves of her hair that framed her face. Connor couldn’t help but stare, captivated by how radiant she looked.

He stood rooted to the spot as she approached, the light from the setting sun casting a golden halo around her. "You are really beautiful," he said, his voice filled with genuine admiration. "I’m amazed every time I look at you at just how beautiful you are."

Wren blushed slightly, not used to such unabashed compliments. "Really? You’re being too kind. I am just average."

Connor shook his head, stepping closer to her. "No, seriously. You’re gorgeous."

Wren smiled shyly. "If you say so, but do you know something?"

Connor tilted his head, curious. "What?"

"You’re really very handsome too."

Connor’s cheeks flushed with color. "Thanks. I’m glad you like me because I’m only yours."

Wren’s heart fluttered at his words, and she felt a warmth spread through her. "I’m very lucky."

"Let’s go," Connor said, gently taking her hand in his. Together, they walked through the resort, their fingers entwined. The evening was calm, the air filled with the scent of the ocean and the sound of distant waves.

Connor led her down a softly lit path that meandered through the resort grounds. "Follow me. It’s just a little bit further," he said, his voice filled with excitement.

The path opened up to a secluded beach, where a beautiful picnic was waiting for them under an umbrella canopy. Softly glowing lanterns surrounded a blanket spread out on the sand, and a large picnic basket sat beside it, brimming with delicious-looking dishes.

Connor gestured to the setup with a smile. "Come sit down. We’ll have a picnic dinner under the stars tonight."

Wren’s eyes widened in amazement as she took in the scene. The gentle sounds of the waves lapping against the shore and the vibrant colors of the setting sun created a perfect backdrop. "Connor, this is incredible," she whispered, touched by the effort he had put into creating this moment for them.

As she sat down, she couldn’t help but steal glances at Connor as he busied himself with arranging the food. How had she gotten so lucky to find someone like him? In her darkest time, when she thought love was nothing more than a cruel illusion, he had found her. Now, sitting beside him, she realized just how different this felt—how real.

Wren’s thoughts wandered back to her past with Trevor. She had once thought she knew what love was, but this—this was something entirely different. Something pure, something true. "Is this love?" she wondered silently. "If it is, please don’t ever let it stop or be taken away. I don’t think I can live without this man now that I’ve gotten a taste of love and happiness."

Connor’s voice broke through her thoughts. "Are you happy? I specially picked out all your favorite foods."

He placed a plate in front of her, filled with creamy Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo. Wren smiled, her heart swelling with affection. "It looks delicious. Thank you."

She took a bite, savoring the rich flavors. "Mmmm… this tastes so good."

Connor looked visibly relieved. "I’m glad you like it. I was so nervous planning all this."

Wren reached out and touched his hand. "You don’t need to be nervous. I would like anything you planned because it’s you."

He smiled at her words, his eyes shining with gratitude. "Thanks, Sunshine. Let’s eat and then take a walk on the beach."

"Okay, that sounds nice," Wren agreed, glancing at the calm water reflecting the last hues of the sunset.

After finishing their meal, they stood up, hand in hand, and began to stroll along the water’s edge. The sand was cool beneath their feet, and the night sky was now ablaze with millions of stars, each one twinkling like a tiny diamond.

Wren kept looking up, marveling at the vast expanse above them. "Aren’t the stars so pretty?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.

Connor chuckled softly. "Not as pretty as you."

She playfully swatted his arm. "Oh, come on."

"What? It’s the truth. Your eyes shine brighter than any star."

Wren stopped walking and turned to face him, her heart pounding in her chest. "You really mean that, don’t you?"

"Of course I do," he replied, his voice sincere.

Without thinking, Wren stood on her tiptoes and leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of his lips. "It still makes me nervous," she admitted, "but I just couldn’t resist. You are just so cute sometimes."

Connor’s eyes widened in surprise, feeling the warmth of her kiss still lingering on his skin. "I better act cute more often," he teased, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

Wren laughed, shaking her head. "Don’t get too full of yourself."

Their laughter mingled with the sound of the waves, creating a melody that filled the night air. Suddenly, a loud boom echoed through the sky, startling them both.
