Chapter 91 - A Day of Milestones

Last Updated on 2024-10-10 23:14:56

Three years had passed in what felt like the blink of an eye for Wren and Stormi. The once uncertain paths of their lives had converged into a joyful present. Wren had left her tumultuous past behind, her heart wholly devoted to Conner. Meanwhile, Stormi and Rex were on the cusp of a new chapter, their engagement marking a future filled with promise and shared dreams. Riley, ever the supportive friend, had remained close to both, his presence a steady reminder of their journey together.

The day had arrived for Stormi and Wren to graduate. Both women were eager, their excitement palpable as they prepared for the ceremony.

“Stormi, are you almost ready?” Wren’s voice called from the other room.

“Yes, how about you?” Stormi responded, a touch of nervousness in her tone.

“I’m looking gorgeous, of course,” Wren teased with a laugh, twirling to give Stormi a view of her outfit. “See? Fabulous!”

Stormi giggled, striking a pose in her elegant dress. “Me too.”

The two friends shared a moment of camaraderie, each admiring the other’s ensemble.

“That dress looks amazing on you!” Wren complimented, her eyes sparkling with genuine admiration.

“You’re looking just as hot!” Stormi replied with a grin.

“I can’t believe we’re graduating today,” Wren said, a hint of nostalgia in her voice.

“I know,” Stormi agreed. “And you’ll be getting married soon.”

Wren’s smile widened at the thought. “We will. Conner wants it to be special.”

“Of course he does,” Stormi said with a teasing tone. “You and your romance.”

Wren laughed. “I guess you’re right.”

“Come on, let’s get going,” Wren urged. “The guys are waiting for us.”

With one last glance in the mirror, the two friends exited Stormi’s apartment, their excitement barely contained. They found Conner and Riley waiting outside, their presence adding to the day’s anticipation.

“Where’s Rex?” Wren asked, noticing his absence.

“He’ll meet us there,” Stormi replied. “He had some last-minute work to finish.”

“Oh, okay,” Wren said, trying to reassure her friend.

Conner leaned in close to Wren, his voice a low murmur. “You look delicious. I could eat you.”

Wren’s cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and pleasure. She smacked his arm playfully. “Let’s go, playboy.”

As they drove to the college, the city streets buzzed with energy. Upon arrival, they were met with the sight of families taking photos and friends laughing, a snapshot of the celebration that awaited them.

Wren scanned the crowd, her gaze searching for her parents. “Mom and Dad should be here somewhere.”

Stormi, scanning the sea of faces, spotted them. “They’re over there.”

Wren waved enthusiastically. “Mom… Dad… over here!”

Her parents made their way through the throng, their faces beaming with pride. After warm greetings, shared photos, and heartfelt congratulations, the ceremony was about to begin.

Stormi’s excitement, however, was tempered by a gnawing worry. She had not seen Rex yet. Her gaze darted around, hoping to catch sight of him.

“Where is Rex?” Wren whispered, noting Stormi’s distress.

“I don’t know,” Stormi replied, her voice trembling with concern. “It’s not like him to be late.”

“I’m sure it’s fine,” Wren said, placing a reassuring hand on Stormi’s shoulder. “Maybe he’s just stuck in traffic.”

Stormi nodded, though her worry remained. As the ceremony began, she tried to focus on the momentous occasion, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Rex. Each time a new name was called, she glanced anxiously at the entrance, hoping to see his familiar face.

Wren, sensing Stormi’s unease, offered a supportive smile. “He’ll be here,” she said softly, though her own thoughts were filled with anticipation for the day’s events. The ceremony continued, and amidst the sea of caps and gowns, Stormi clung to the hope that Rex would arrive in time to share in this special day.

The minutes ticked by, each one a reminder of the growing tension. The crowd’s cheers and applause seemed distant to Stormi as she waited, her heart a mix of excitement and apprehension.
