Chapter 56 - An Unexpected Delight

As Connor pulled the car up to the resort's entrance, a look of pure bliss washed over Wren's face. The grandeur of the place left her momentarily speechless, and Connor couldn't help but smile at her reaction. A valet swiftly appeared to take the car, while another man approached to collect their luggage. The sense of luxury and care was immediate, setting the tone for what Connor hoped would be an unforgettable experience.

Walking through the double glass doors, Wren's eyes were immediately drawn to the breathtaking crystal chandelier that sparkled like a thousand diamonds above them. Each facet caught the light, creating a mesmerizing display that made the entire lobby shimmer.

"Connor, this place is so pretty," Wren whispered, her voice full of awe.

Connor, watching her, felt a wave of relief. Her earlier anxiety seemed to have melted away, replaced by genuine happiness. "I'm glad you like it," he replied softly, his heart swelling with pride and affection.

They approached the check-in desk, where a friendly hotel worker greeted them and handed them the key to their suite. As they were led through the elegantly designed corridors, Wren's anticipation grew with each step. When the door to their suite was finally opened, she stepped inside and gasped at the sight.

The room was nothing short of stunning. It was a perfect blend of modern luxury and romantic charm. The centerpiece was a grand four-poster bed draped with sheer white curtains, giving it an ethereal quality. Scattered across the bed were rose petals, and on the nightstand, a box of gourmet chocolates awaited them.

"Do you like it?" Connor asked, watching Wren with a mixture of hope and excitement.

Wren’s face lit up with a radiant smile. "Yes, very much!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy.

She moved around the room, her fingers brushing lightly over the fine linens, the polished furniture, and the delicate decorations. Each discovery seemed to bring her more delight, and Connor felt his heart lightening with every smile she gave.

Wren stopped at the bed, her eyes wide with wonder. "They even scattered rose petals on the bed and left chocolates for us," she remarked, her voice almost reverent.

Connor chuckled, his gaze softening as he watched her excitement. "I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself," he said, though his words barely captured the depth of his feelings. Her happiness was all that mattered to him.

Suddenly, Wren’s attention was caught by something in the bathroom, and she disappeared through the door. Moments later, a delighted squeal echoed from within.

"Oh my goodness, Connor, come quick! Look at this bathroom!" Wren’s voice was filled with excitement.

Connor hurried over, curious to see what had caught her attention. As he stepped into the bathroom, he was greeted by the sight of a massive sunken bathtub surrounded by candles. A container filled with rose petals sat nearby, clearly intended to be sprinkled into the bath. The setting was undeniably romantic, designed for an intimate, shared experience.

"Isn’t this just lovely?" Wren asked, her eyes wide with wonder.

"It is very nice," Connor agreed, though there was a playful note in his voice as he added, "But Sunshine…"

Wren turned to face him, a questioning look on her face. "What?"

Connor gave her a knowing smile. "Do you know what all this is for?"

Wren blinked, slightly confused. "Yes… a nice bath."

Connor's smile turned teasing as he stepped closer. "What kind of bath?"

It took Wren a moment to realize what he meant, and when she did, her cheeks flushed a delicate pink. "Ummm… well… you know what kind," she stammered, suddenly shy.

Without another word, she spun around and quickly left the bathroom, her embarrassment clear in her hurried steps. Behind her, she could hear Connor’s light laughter, teasing but full of affection.

"Don’t be embarrassed, Sunshine," Connor called after her, leaning against the bathroom door frame. "We’ll only use it if you want us to." He winked at her as she peeked back into the room, her face still a charming shade of red.

Wren shot him a mock glare. "You’re awful. Stop teasing me."

But Connor couldn’t resist. Her flushed cheeks and flustered demeanor were too adorable. "Just let me know if you need help scrubbing your back later. I definitely don’t mind helping."

Wren’s mouth dropped open, but she quickly recovered, giving him a pointed look. "You wish."

Connor’s grin widened, his eyes dancing with mischief. "I do wish."

Wren opened her mouth to respond, but words failed her. Connor could see the struggle in her expression and decided to save her from further teasing.

"Alright," he said, changing the subject smoothly, "let’s change clothes and go grab a bite to eat."

Wren visibly relaxed, grateful for the reprieve. "Okay. Give me a few minutes."

Connor smiled as he turned back toward the room. "Hurry, though. I have a surprise planned for you."

Wren’s curiosity was instantly piqued. "A surprise! What could it be?"

Connor shot her a mysterious look. "Hurry, and you’ll soon find out."

Without further prompting, Wren grabbed her clothes and hurried into the bathroom, her earlier embarrassment forgotten as excitement took over. Connor watched her go, his heart full as he thought about the evening ahead. The surprise he had planned was one he hoped would make this trip even more special for her.

As he changed his clothes, Connor couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation. This was more than just a getaway—it was a chance for them to create new, happier memories together, to leave the past behind, and to focus on the future they were building, one step at a time.
