Chapter 3 - The Surprise

Last Updated on 2024-10-10 19:14:59

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the stunning resort as Trevor and Wren arrived. The garden and pool adjacent to the resort were nothing short of spectacular, with vibrant flowers in full bloom and crystal-clear water shimmering in the evening light. Wren’s eyes widened in awe as she took in the view.

“Do you like it?” Trevor’s voice was filled with genuine anticipation.

Wren nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, it’s gorgeous.”

Trevor smiled, clearly pleased with her reaction. “I’m happy you like it. Come on… let’s go check in.” He took her hand, and they made their way to the front desk.

After completing the check-in process, they were led to their room. It was elegantly decorated, with soft lighting and luxurious furnishings. Wren walked over to the bed and sat down, taking in the opulence around her.

“This room is really nice,” she remarked, her eyes sparkling.

“Yes, it is,” Trevor agreed, his gaze lingering on her. “Go freshen up and we’ll grab some dinner. Wear something nice.”

Wren raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. “Okay… will you finally reveal my surprise?”

Trevor’s smile widened mischievously. “Maybe. You’ll have to wait and see.”

In her private sanctuary, Wren freshened up, donning a pretty pink dress that accentuated her features. She touched up her makeup and styled her hair, feeling both excited and nervous. When she emerged from the bathroom, Trevor was waiting for her, looking dashing in jeans, a dress shirt, and a blazer.

“You look very handsome,” Wren complimented.

Trevor’s eyes softened as he looked at her. “You look pretty too.”

“Thanks,” Wren replied, blushing slightly.

He took her hand and led her downstairs to the resort’s restaurant. The host guided them to a table on a balcony overlooking the beautifully illuminated gardens below. Wren inhaled deeply, savoring the floral fragrance that mingled with the evening air.

“Wow… this is so beautiful. I can smell the flowers from here,” she said, her voice filled with wonder.

“The scenery and view are really nice,” Trevor agreed, settling into his seat.

They enjoyed a delightful dinner, the conversation flowing as easily as the wine. Just as they were finishing their meal, a tray with a bouquet of red roses was wheeled out to their table. Trevor’s face lit up with a hint of excitement as he picked up the bouquet and stood.

“Wren, can you please stand up with me and go for a walk in the gardens?” he asked, his voice a mix of eagerness and affection.

Wren’s heart raced as she stood and took the roses from him, her happiness evident. “Yes, I’d be happy to go with you.”

Hand in hand, they walked down a path adorned with fairy lights that led to a gazebo draped in flowers. The setting was enchanting, and Wren’s heart fluttered with anticipation.

Trevor suddenly stopped and faced her, his expression serious but tender. “Wren… you know how much I love you.”

“Yes, I know. It’s just as much as I love you,” Wren replied, her voice warm.

Trevor dropped to one knee, pulling out a ring box. “Then would you do me the honor of being my wife and spending the rest of your life with me?”

The world seemed to hold its breath as Wren’s mind raced. She had envisioned this moment in dreams but now faced a dilemma. She adored Trevor, but she wasn’t ready for marriage. They had been together for only a year, and she had just started college.

“Trevor,” she began, her voice trembling slightly, “I love you a lot, but I’m not ready to get married. Please understand.”

Trevor’s face hardened, his earlier joy replaced by anger. “Are you serious?”

Wren’s heart sank. “I’m so sorry. I want to marry you someday, just not right now.”

Trevor’s laughter was bitter and harsh. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Wren’s concern deepened. “Trevor, are you okay?”

“Okay? How could I be okay with being rejected?” His voice was sharp, his disappointment palpable.

Wren reached out, trying to bridge the gap between them. “I still want to be with you. Just not marriage yet.”

“Whatever,” Trevor snapped, rising from his knee. “Forget it. Let’s go back to our room.”

Wren’s heart ached as she quietly followed Trevor back to their room. The magical evening had been tainted, leaving her with a heavy heart and an uneasy feeling as they walked in silence. The promise of a perfect weekend seemed to drift further away with each step.
