Chapter 52 - Embracing the Night

Connor moved quickly in the dimly lit bedroom, changing into a comfortable t-shirt and boxers while Wren enjoyed a soothing bath. His movements were purposeful, as he wanted everything to be just right. After folding the blankets neatly on the bed, he slipped underneath them, his mind a swirl of excitement and anticipation.

This was a significant step for both of them. Connor’s heart swelled with happiness, tempered by a quiet resolve. He knew how fragile their progress was and didn’t want to scare her away or make her doubt his feelings. He loved her deeply, and his patience was steadfast. His mission was to show her that she was worthy of love, that she deserved to be cherished like anyone else.

The sound of the bathroom door opening drew Connor’s attention. Wren emerged, wrapped in a black nightgown that fell gracefully to her knees. It was a perfect balance between alluring and modest, making her look effortlessly beautiful.

“Are you all done?” Connor asked, his voice gentle.

Wren hesitated for a moment, her nerves apparent as she sat on the edge of the bed and slid her legs under the covers. “Yes. Umm…”

She looked at him, a mix of nervousness and determination in her eyes. Connor’s heart ached with tenderness as he watched her take this brave step.

“Don’t be nervous,” Connor said softly. “I won’t touch you unless you ask me to.”

“Okay,” Wren replied, her voice barely a whisper.

Connor offered a reassuring smile. “Feel free to touch me all you want though.”

Wren’s gaze met his, and he winked playfully. She laughed, a sound that made Connor’s heart skip a beat.

“Is that your way of making me feel better?” she asked, her tone light but tinged with curiosity.

“Did it work?” Connor asked, his eyes twinkling.

“Kind of,” she admitted, her cheeks flushing slightly.

“I mean it,” Connor said earnestly. “I’m at your service. You never need to ask.”

The sincerity in his voice made Wren’s face turn a shade redder. “Let’s just sleep,” she said quickly, pulling the covers up and turning on her side, facing away from him.

“Goodnight,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.

Connor chuckled softly at her shyness and settled into his side of the bed with a smile. “Night, Sunshine.”

The room fell into a tranquil silence as Connor turned off the bedside lamp. The darkness enveloped them, and the only sounds were the gentle rhythm of their breathing. Wren lay still, her mind racing as she adjusted to the unfamiliar closeness.

She turned over, her eyes opening to find Connor’s brown eyes gleaming softly in the dark. They were fixed on her with an intensity that made her heart flutter.

“He has such gorgeous eyes,” Wren thought. “Why is he staring at me like that?”

“Can’t sleep?” Connor’s voice broke the silence, soft and soothing.

“No… I’m not used to this,” Wren confessed, her voice filled with a mix of vulnerability and uncertainty.

“What would make you feel more comfortable?” Connor asked, his tone gentle and accommodating.

Wren found herself blurting out an unexpected request. “Can I hug you?”

Her own words shocked her, and she mentally winced at her sudden boldness. Did I really just ask him that?

Connor’s response was immediate and heartfelt. “You don’t need to ask. I told you I’m all yours.”

Wren felt a rush of relief as she slowly scooted closer to him. With trembling hands, she reached out, wrapping her arms around him. The warmth of his body against hers was both comforting and exhilarating.

Connor responded with a tender embrace, holding her close. They lay together in the quiet darkness, the night air filled with the unspoken promise of new beginnings and shared intimacy. In each other’s arms, they found solace and a growing connection, their hearts beating in sync in the stillness of the room.
